  • Islanders' Samuel Bolduc: Returned to minors

Bolduc was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday.

Bolduc's demotion would seem to indicate that Alexander Romanov (upper body) is healthy enough to play Tuesday against Pittsburgh. In his lone appearance this season, Bolduc logged a meager 5:56 of ice time and registered a minus-1 rating. Look for Bolduc to spend the bulk of his time in the minors this year.

  • Islanders' Mike Reilly: Still deemed day-to-day

Reilly (upper body) remains day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's game against the Penguins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Reilly continues to deal with an upper-body injury that forced him to miss Sunday's game against the Rangers, and it's unclear whether he'll be available Tuesday. If he's forced to sit out again, Grant Hutton and Samuel Bolduc are candidates to see playing time for the Islanders.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Remains day-to-day

Romanov (upper body) is still day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's clash with the Penguins, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Romanov's spot in the lineup at practice Monday was being filled by forward Matt Martin, which would seem to indicate that the 24-year-old blueliner will be healthy in time to suit up against Pittsburgh. Still, Romanov has played in just one of the Islanders' last five games as he works his way through this upper-body issue.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: In goal against Pens

Sorokin will get the starting nod at home versus Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin has had mixed results in his last four appearances, posting a 3.00 GAA and .908 save percentage while going 2-2-0 in that span. With the 29-year-old backstop getting the nod Tuesday, it will be the first time this season that he starts in three consecutive games. Still, Semyon Varlamov should still see plenty of opportunities the rest of the way, even if the bulk of the workload goes to Sorokin.

  • Islanders' Pierre Engvall: Garners assist in loss

Engvall notched an assist and four shots on goal in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers.

The helper was Engvall's first point in four appearances this season. The 28-year-old has added six shots on net, two hits and four PIM. He was waived at the start of the season and struggled with AHL Bridgeport prior to his recall. Engvall is in competition with Oliver Wahlstrom, Hudson Fasching and Matt Martin for bottom-six minutes. Only one of those four forwards will have to sit out at any given time in the near term while the Islanders await the returns of Mathew Barzal (upper body) and Anthony Duclair (leg), both of whom aren't expected back until December.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Allows four goals in defeat

Sorokin stopped 35 of 39 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.

Sorokin hadn't surrendered more than three goals in a game before Sunday's loss. He performed admirably behind a banged-up defense corps but received his second defeat in his last four outings. Sorokin has a 3-3-1 record with a 2.29 GAA and a .922 save percentage through seven appearances this season.

  • Islanders' Brock Nelson: First point in four games

Nelson netted a goal in a 5-2 loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

Nelson's fifth tally of 2024-25 was his first point in four games. He had four goals and two assists in his first eight appearances. Nelson cut the Rangers' lead to 3-2 at the 19:52 mark of the second period, but the Islanders had only nine shots on goal in the third frame and didn't get another past Igor Shesterkin.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Scores in loss

Cizikas scored a goal in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers.

Cizikas got his first goal of 2024-25 at the 4:38 mark of the second period after Igor Shesterkin misplayed a long shot by Pierre Engvall. The 33-year-old Cizikas has two points through 12 outings this season. He won't produce much offensively but adds a physical presence as the Islanders' third-line center.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Unavailable Sunday

Romanov (upper body) won't play Sunday against the Rangers, according to Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.

Despite missing Saturday's practice, Romanov was initially expected to play in Sunday's game. However, that won't be the case, and he's day-to-day. With Romanov, Adam Pelech (jaw) and Mike Reilly (upper body) unavailable, Dennis Cholowski, Grant Hutton and Samuel Bolduc will play against the Rangers.

  • Islanders' Mike Reilly: Out vs. Rangers

Reilly (upper body) won't play Sunday against the Rangers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Reilly was deemed day-to-day after suffering an injury in Friday's win over Buffalo, and he'll now miss at least one game. With Reilly out, either Grant Hutton or Samuel Bolduc figure to fill in on a depleted Islanders blue line.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Expected to play Sunday

Per Andrew Gross of Newsday, coach Patrick Roy expects Romanov (upper body) to play Sunday against the Rangers.

Romanov missed practice Saturday, but it was likely a maintenance day for the defenseman. Romanov has a pair of assists, 16 hits and 21 blocked shots in eight games this season.

  • Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Starting Sunday

Sorokin will defend the road net Sunday versus the Rangers, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin is coming off a 32-save performance in Friday's 4-3 win over Buffalo. He has a 3-2-1 record with a 2.00 GAA and a .928 save percentage through six outings this season. The Rangers rank fourth in the league with 3.90 goals per game in 2024-25.

  • Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Credited with winning goal Friday

Pageau scored his second goal of the season in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Sabres.

Pageau's second goal of 2024-25 held up as the game-winner after he gave the Islanders a 4-2 lead at the 8:08 mark of the third period. He compiled three shots, two PIM, five blocks, one hit and a plus-2 rating in 21:28 of ice time. The right-shot forward moved up to the top line and first power-play unit in Friday's win due to the absence of Mathew Barzal (upper body). The 31-year-old Pageau has collected two goals, two assists, 20 shots, seven blocks, 26 hits, two PIM and a minus-1 rating through 11 appearances this season.

  • Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Picks fight Friday

Wahlstrom had a fighting major in Friday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.

Wahlstrom had been scratched for the previous three games. The 24-year-old winger is competing with Hudson Fasching and Matt Martin for a spot in the lineup. Wahlstrom has no points through seven games, and he's added a modest four shots on net, two hits, three blocked shots and seven PIM while seeing fourth-line usage. He'll have a chance to stake his claim to a lineup spot while Mathew Barzal (upper body) is on long-term injured reserve for likely all of November.

  • Islanders' Simon Holmstrom: Adds helper

Holmstrom logged an assist and two blocked shots in Friday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.

Holmstrom started the season with two assists over three contests before suffering through a seven-game slump. The 23-year-old winger has filled a middle-six role, averaging 15:18 of ice time over 11 appearances, nearly two minutes more than he had last year in a 25-point regular season. Aside from modest offense, the Swede doesn't add much else -- he has six shots on net, six hits, seven blocked shots, two PIM and a minus-2 rating in 2024-25.

  • Islanders' Kyle Palmieri: Deposits power-play marker

Palmieri scored a power-play goal on three shots and added two hits in Friday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.

Palmieri followed up back-to-back two-point games with a pair of scoreless outings. The 33-year-old winger has been mostly consistent in a second-line role this season, and his goal Friday was his first contribution on the power play. He's up to five tallies, three assists, 30 shots on net, nine hits and a minus-1 rating through 11 appearances.

  • Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Deemed day-to-day

Romanov (upper body) is considered day-to-day, the Islanders announced Saturday.

The Islanders were already missing defensemen Adam Pelech (jaw) and Mike Reilly (upper body). If Romanov can't suit up Sunday versus the Rangers, either Samuel Bolduc or Grant Hutton -- both of whom were recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday -- would likely enter the lineup.

  • Islanders' Mike Reilly: Deemed day-to-day

Reilly (upper body) is day-to-day after being injured in Friday's 4-3 win over Buffalo, the team announced Saturday.

Reilly hasn't earned a point in 11 outings while contributing 15 shots goal, four blocked shots and three hits this season. He didn't participate in Saturday's practice, per Andrew Gross of Newsday, which doesn't bode well for his availability for Sunday's matchup versus the Rangers. Due to injuries to Reilly, Alexander Romanov (upper body) and Adam Pelech (jaw), the Islanders could insert Samuel Bolduc and Grant Hutton into the lineup for Sunday's game.
