Canadiens' Jake Evans: Deposits empty-netter
Evans scored an empty-net goal in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.
Evans ended a 21-game goal drought with the empty-netter. In that span, he had seven assists, 20 shots on net, 32 hits and 21 blocked shots. The 28-year-old defensive forward will likely continue in a bottom-six role in the Canadiens' first-round series versus the Capitals. Evans ended the regular season with a career-best year of 13 goals, 23 assists, 80 shots on net, 124 hits, 60 blocks and a plus-1 rating over 82 appearances. Six of his 36 points came shorthanded.

Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Ties NHL record in finale
Hutson picked up an assist in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.
When the 21-year-old helped set up Kaiden Guhle for the game-winner in the second period -- a goal that ultimately clinched a playoff spot for the Canadiens -- it gave Hutson his 60th assist of the season, tying the NHL record for rookie defensemen set by Larry Murphy in 1980-81. Hutson's mark of 66 points on the campaign is also tied for the fourth-most in history by a first-year blueliner, matching Phil Housley's total from 1982-83, and it establishes a new franchise-best mark, topping Chris Chelios' 64 points from 1984-85.

Canadiens' Nick Suzuki: Pots goal No. 30
Suzuki scored a goal and added an assist in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.
The 25-year-old center was involved in Montreal's first two goals of the night, with his own tally being his 30th of the season -- the second straight campaign Suzuki has reached that milestone. He wraps up an impressive regular season with a career-high 89 points and plus-19 rating, and he'll head into a first-round matchup against the Capitals with a full head of steam, having delivered six multi-point performances in the last 10 games while racking up eight goals and 15 points.

Canadiens' Kaiden Guhle: Plays hero with two-goal effort
Guhle scored two goals, one the game-winner, in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Hurricanes.
With the win, the Canadiens locked up the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and booked a ticket to a first-round matchup against the Capitals. Guhle hadn't found the back of the net since Jan. 23, and the timely multi-goal performance was the first of his career. The 23-year-old blueliner wraps up the regular season with six goals, 18 points, 104 hits, 124 blocked shots and a plus-6 rating in 55 appearances.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Locks up playoff spot with win
Montembeault made 27 saves in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.
Facing a Carolina team that was resting a number of key skaters, Montembeault was more than up to the task of clinching a playoff spot for Montreal in its final regular-season game. The 28-year-old will head into a first-round playoff matchup against the Capitals with plenty of momentum -- over his last eight starts, Montembeault has gone 6-1-1 with a 2.11 GAA and .922 save percentage.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: In goal Wednesday
Montembeault will get the starting nod at home versus Carolina on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Montembeault has dropped two straight games, and he posted a 0-1-1 record and 3.37 GAA during that time. The 28-year-old backstop has already reached the 30-win mark this year but will need to secure his team at least a point if the Habs are going to lock themselves into the final wild-card spot.

Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Returning against Canes
Heineman (upper body) will be back in the lineup versus Carolina on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
Heineman will return from a five-game stint on the sidelines due to his upper-body issue. Prior to his absence, the 23-year-old Swede was mired in a nine-game pointless streak during which he registered seven goals, 34 hits and four blocks while averaging 10:55 of ice time. Oliver Kapanen seems like the most likely candidate to get dropped from the lineup with Heineman back.

Canadiens' Joel Armia: Provides pair of assists
Armia logged two assists and two shots on goal in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blackhawks.
Armia made the most of a team-low 6:52 of ice time, assisting on first-period goals by Alex Newhook and Ivan Demidov. With four helpers over his last seven outings, Armia has bounced back after a rough March. Overall, the winger has 29 points -- one off his career high -- while adding 103 shots on net, 87 hits, 34 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating across a personal-best 80 appearances.

Canadiens' Alex Newhook: Pots goal Monday
Newhook scored a goal on two shots in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blackhawks.
Newhook ended a nine-game goal drought, a span in which he was limited to one assist, with his goal at 6:00 of the first period. The 24-year-old center is up to 15 goals, matching his career high from last season. He's added just 11 assists, 116 shots on net, 86 hits and a minus-21 rating over 81 appearances. With just one regular-season game left, Newhook is a virtual guarantee to miss the 30-point mark for the first time since he became a full-time NHL player.

Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky: Forces overtime Monday
Slafkovsky scored a power-play goal on three shots, added two hits and blocked two shots in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blackhawks.
Slafkovsky helped the Canadiens secure a standings point, putting their magic number at one. The winger has slowed a bit in April with a goal and three assists over his last eight contests, but he remains firmly on the top line. For the season, he's matched his career high of 50 points (18 goals, 32 helpers) while adding 131 shots on net, 193 hits, 60 blocked shots, 43 PIM and a plus-1 rating in 78 outings.

Canadiens' Ivan Demidov: Two points in NHL debut
Demidov produced a goal and an assist in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to Chicago.
Making his NHL debut, the fifth overall pick in the 2024 Draft wasted no time making an impact for the Canadiens, setting up Alex Newhook for the game's opening tally six minutes into the first period before scoring his first career goal later in the opening frame. The 19-year-old had an impressive 19 goals and 49 points in 65 regular-season games for SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL this campaign before coming to North America, and Demidov figures to have a significant role in the playoffs for Montreal -- assuming the Habs don't let a wild-card spot slip through their fingers in the final days of the regular season.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Fails to clinch playoff spot Monday
Montembeault turned aside 22 shots in regulation and overtime and one of two shootout attempts in Monday's 4-3 loss to Chicago.
The Habs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period and seemed well on their way to clinching the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, but the game slipped away from Montreal. Montembeault has just one regulation loss in his last seven starts, going 5-1-1 with a 2.12 GAA and a .921 save percentage. One more point in the standings in the Canadiens' regular-season finale Wednesday against the Hurricanes -- or a loss by the Blue Jackets in either of their final two games -- is all Montreal needs to secure a playoff berth.

Canadiens' Emil Heineman: Unavailable versus Hawks
Heineman (upper body) remains day-to-day and won't face the Blackhawks on Monday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
Heineman will miss his fifth straight game due to his upper-body issue. Considering the Swedish winger has managed just one point in his last 20 appearances, his continued absence is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy managers. The addition of Ivan Demidov could make it difficult for Heineman to get back into the lineup even once given the all-clear.

Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Starting against Chicago
Montembeault will serve as the starting netminder for Monday's home game against Chicago, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Montembeault's five-game winning streak came to an end Friday against Ottawa, as he allowed four goals on 33 shots (.879 save percentage). However, he should have a more favorable matchup Monday, as the Blackhawks are averaging just 2.71 goals per game this season, which is the sixth-worst mark in the NHL.

Canadiens' Ivan Demidov: Debuting Monday
Demidov (not injury related) will be in the lineup against the Blackhawks on Monday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports
Demidov, who was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, will make his highly anticipated debut for the Canadiens. Prior to joining Montreal, the 19-year-old winger put together a fantastic campaign with SKA St. Petersburg, racking up 19 goals and 30 assists in 65 regular-season games. If he can bring that scoring touch to the NHL, Demidov could bolster the Habs' postseason chances.

Canadiens' Michael Pezzetta: Plays in 200th career game
Pezzetta's appearance in Saturday's 1-0 overtime loss to the Maple Leafs was his 200th career game.
Pezzetta has had to scratch and claw for every second of ice time this year. He's failed to record a point in 25 outings while averaging a mere 5:56 of ice time. Pezzetta has added 73 hits, 24 PIM and 14 shots on net, so toughness is about the only thing he has to offer. He'll likely lose his place in the lineup once Emil Heineman (undisclosed) can return, though Ivan Demidov (not injury related) could bump Pezzetta out once Demidov has his work visa.
