  • Hurricanes' Alexander Nikishin: KHL deal expiring

Nikishin's contract with SKA St. Petersburg is expected to expire June 1, RG Media reports.

Nikishin told RG Media, "I have no idea what's going to happen even a month from now. Thinking that far ahead is just asking to be laughed at," so it's unclear if he will actually make the jump to the NHL next year. In the KHL this season, the 23-year-old blueliner has racked up 13 goals and 23 helpers in 49 games, production that would certainly bolster the Canes' blue line ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

  • Hurricanes' Felix Unger Sorum: Starting to score

Unger Sorum has two goals and seven assists in his last 14 games at AHL Chicago,

Unger Sorum had a goal and an assist in Texas on Dec. 14, prior to leaving the team to play for Sweden at the U20 World Championships in Ottawa. The 19-year-old had a big tournament with a goal and nine assists in seven games. Unger Sorum, who was selected 62nd overall in 2023, had a goal and five points in his first 21 AHL contests, as he struggled offensively early on.

  • Hurricanes' Bradly Nadeau: Excelling in AHL

Nadeau has a chance of winning the AHL rookie goal-scoring title after scoring his 17th goal of the campaign Friday.

Nadeau also has 15 assists and 20 PIM through 37 appearances with AHL Chicago in 2024-25. The only rookies ahead of him in goals are Sam Colangelo (18) and Jani Nyman (18). The 19-year-old Nadeau was selected by Carolina with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Although he logged one game with Carolina last season, he hasn't played for the Hurricanes yet in 2024-25. However, he does have considerable offensive upside, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him play a meaningful role for Carolina in a couple of years.

  • Hurricanes' Mikko Rantanen: Slated to play for Team Finland

Rantanen (lower body) is on his way to Montreal and is expected to play for Team Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Sunday.

Rantanen missed Saturday's game against Utah, but his ailment was seemingly a minor one. His availability is crucial for a Finland squad that will be without star blueliner Miro Heiskanen (knee). The Finns will face Team USA on Thursday.

  • Hurricanes' Jack Roslovic: Strikes late in win

Roslovic scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

Roslovic had the final goal of the game with 1:26 left in the third period. The 28-year-old forward has just three points over 18 games since the start of January, a performance that has earned him a spot firmly in the bottom six. For the season, he's at 19 goals, nine helpers, 100 shots on net and a minus-6 rating through 55 outings. The break for the 4 Nations Face-Off should give Roslovic a chance to rest and reset. He's likely to finish with the second 20-goal season of his career, and he could also get to the 40-point mark for the third time in four years.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook: Tallies on empty net in blowout win

Martinook scored a goal on two shots in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

Martinook ended a six-game goal drought, during which he had one assist. His tally was at 17:16 of the third period, though the Hurricanes were able to get one more goal after that. Martinook is now at 10 goals, 26 points, 83 shots on net, 67 hits, 37 blocked shots and a plus-15 rating over 56 appearances this season. It's a pace that could see him push for his first 40-point campaign, though he should be able to reach the 30-point mark for a third straight year even if his offense slips.

  • Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Picks up two helpers in win

Blake collected two assists in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

The 21-year-old rookie skated in the top six again and featured on the top power-play unit for an injury-depleted Carolina roster, notably missing Mikko Rantanen (lower body). Blake has taken advantage of his opportunities of late, producing a goal and six points over the last eight games, but the Hurricanes could be a lot healthier on the other side of the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which might bump Blake into a lesser role.

  • Hurricanes' Jalen Chatfield: Two-point effort Saturday

Chatfield produced an even-strength goal and a shorthanded assist in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

The 28-year-old blueliner opened the scoring midway through the first period, converting a 2-on-1 break after a feed from Jordan Staal. Chatfield then helped set up Sebastian Aho for what proved to be the game-winner in the second frame. The performance snapped Chatfield out of a 15-game goal slump, during which he'd managed only one assist. Chatfield will head into the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off with five goals, 13 points, 80 shots on net, 49 hits, 45 blocked shots and a plus-21 rating through 56 contests this season.

  • Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Two helpers in Saturday's win

Svechnikov notched two assists, one on the power play, in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

The 24-year-old winger had a hand in Carolina's first two tallies of the afternoon. Svechnikov has two multi-point performances in his last five appearances, but the second-overall pick in the 2018 Draft still has yet to live up to expectations. In 55 games this season, he's produced 17 goals and 40 points.

  • Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Three-point effort in win

Aho scored two goals, including the game-winner while shorthanded, and added an assist in Saturday's 7-3 victory over Utah.

Aho will represent Team Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off, and the 27-year-old heads into the tournament with significant momentum, having racked up seven goals and 11 points over the last nine games. Saturday's performance also gave Aho 20 goals on the season -- a mark reached in all nine of his NHL campaigns.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Erupts for four points before break

Jarvis scored two goals, one on the power play, and added two assists, one shorthanded, in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

In his final game before representing Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Jarvis demonstrated why he won a spot despite being the youngest player on the roster, having just turned 23 last week. Three of his points, including both tallies, came during a four-goal second period for Carolina that broke the game open. Jarvis heads into the break with 22 goals and 45 points through 49 appearances this season.

  • Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Cruises to win No. 20

Kochetkov made 36 saves in Saturday's 7-3 win over Utah.

The 25-year-old goalie gave up a tally in each period, two of them on the power play, but Carolina scored four times in the second period alone to effectively put the game away. Kochetkov has just one regulation loss in his last eight starts, going 5-1-2 over that stretch with a .910 save percentage, and Saturday's victory was his 20th of the season -- the second straight campaign in which he's reached that mark.

  • Hurricanes' Scott Morrow: Heads to minors

Morrow was sent to AHL Chicago on Saturday, according to Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal.

Morrow logged one shot and one block in 12:11 of ice time in Carolina's 7-3 victory over Utah on Saturday. He hasn't earned a point in two NHL outings this season while posting three shots on goal and one blocked shot. Morrow might be back with the Hurricanes after the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off.

  • Hurricanes' Juha Jaaska: Sent to AHL

Jaaska was reassigned to AHL Chicago on Saturday, per Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal.

This move came after Jaaska registered an assist in Carolina's 7-3 victory over Utah on Saturday. The Hurricanes are off until Feb. 22 against Toronto due to the 4 Nations Face-Off, and Jaaksa might return to the NHL after the break. The 26-year-old has four assists in 17 outings with the Hurricanes.

  • Hurricanes' Mikko Rantanen: Unavailable Saturday

Rantanen (lower body) won't play against Utah on Saturday.

Rantanen sustained the injury from blocking a shot in Thursday's 2-1 loss to Minnesota. He has generated one goal, one assist and 21 shots on net in six games with the Hurricanes after being acquired from Colorado on Jan. 24. Due to Rantanen's absence, Carolina will dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen in Saturday's lineup, with Scott Morrow drawing back in after being a healthy scratch in Thursday's defeat.

  • Hurricanes' Pyotr Kochetkov: Tending twine Saturday

Kochetkov will defend the home crease against Utah on Saturday, Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal reports.

Kochetkov will draw the start in the Hurricanes' final game before the 4 Nations Face-Off as he continues to split time in the net with Frederik Andersen. Across Kochetkov's last six appearances, he's gone 3-1-2 with a 2.32 GAA and a .907 save percentage.

  • Hurricanes' Seth Jarvis: Records helper in loss

Jarvis posted an assist in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Wild.

The helper was Jarvis' first point over three games in February after he racked up 11 goals and four assists over 15 contests in January. The Hurricanes are still toying with their lines -- Jackson Blake got the first chance on the top line with Sebastian Aho and Mikko Rantanen following the team's blockbuster trade with Colorado, but Jarvis was in that spot Thursday. Jarvis has played pretty well this season, earning 20 goals, 21 assists, 124 shots on net, 72 hits and a plus-1 rating over 48 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Lends helper in loss

Svechnikov notched an assist and four shots on goal in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Wild.

Svechnikov missed a game Saturday versus the Kings but has been able to handle middle-six minutes over the last two contests. The 24-year-old winger has five points over his last six outings and a total of 17 goals, 38 points, 151 shots on net, 106 hits, 38 PIM and a minus-5 rating across 54 appearances this season. Svechnikov is on track to return to the 20-goal mark after missing it in 2023-24, and he should also be able to top 50 points for the fourth straight year.
