Blue Jackets' Erik Gudbranson: Won't play against New Jersey
Gudbranson (shoulder) won't play in Monday's game against the Devils, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Gudbranson is expected to return to game action soon, but he'll remain on injured reserve for at least one more matchup. His next chance to return will be Thursday against the Panthers, while Jack Johnson will remain in the lineup Monday since Gudbranson and Jake Christiansen (upper body) remain sidelined.

Blue Jackets' Jake Christiansen: Will remain sidelined Monday
Christiansen (upper body) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Devils, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Christiansen sustained an upper-body injury Thursday against the Golden Knights and will be unavailable for a second consecutive game Monday. Jack Johnson will remain in the lineup against New Jersey, while Christiansen's next chance to suit up will be Thursday against Florida.

Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Still away from team
Merzlikins (personal) didn't participate in Monday's morning skate and won't be in the lineup for Monday's home matchup versus New Jersey, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Merzlikins will miss his second straight game. Jet Greaves will start Monday's game versus the Devils, and Daniil Tarasov will be the backup netminder. Merzlikins has posted a 22-18-4 record with one shutout, a 3.04 GAA and an .896 save percentage through 44 appearances this season.

Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Starting against New Jersey
Greaves will serve as the starting netminder for Monday's home game against New Jersey, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Greaves will make his first start since being called up by the Blue Jackets on Friday, as Elvis Merzlikins (personal) remains sidelined. Over five NHL appearances this year, Greaves has gone 2-1-2 with a 2.98 GAA and .906 save percentage.

Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Has narrow window for playing time
Johnson suited up for Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers, logging two hits in 9:46 of ice time.
Johnson drew into the lineup due to the absence of Jake Christiansen (upper body). The 38-year-old Johnson had been scratched for the previous nine games and 12 of the last 15 contests, as Denton Mateychuk has taken a more permanent spot in the lineup. Johnson's run of playing time could be short -- Christiansen hasn't been ruled anything worse than day-to-day, and Erik Gudbranson (shoulder) is also expected to make his first appearance since Oct. 15 within the next week. For the season, Johnson has five assists, 19 shots on net, a minus-7 rating, 15 hits and 29 blocked shots over 35 appearances.

Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Gets no help in loss
Tarasov stopped 17 of 20 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers.
Tarasov's three-game winning streak came to a close as the Blue Jackets' offense couldn't solve Igor Shesterkin in this contest. The 25-year-old Tarasov has allowed just 10 goals over his last four outings, providing solid goaltending in the backup role, though he'll operate as the starter until Elvis Merzlikins (personal) returns to the team. Tarasov is down to 7-8-2 with a 3.51 GAA and an .882 save percentage over 17 appearances this season. The Blue Jackets have a back-to-back next week (Thursday versus the Panthers, Friday versus the Penguins), so Tarasov shouldn't have to wait too long for his next start.

Blue Jackets' Daniil Tarasov: Gets starting nod Saturday
Tarasov will guard the home cage versus the Rangers on Saturday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Tarasov has won his last three starts, dating back to Jan. 31. He is 7-7-2 with one shutout, a 3.54 GAA and an .883 save percentage over 16 games this season. Jet Greaves will back up Tarasov on Saturday due to the absence of Elvis Merzlikins, who is with his wife for the birth of their second child. The Rangers are generating 3.00 goals per game, 13th in the NHL in 2024-25.

Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Unavailable for personal reasons
Merzlikins (personal) is temporarily unavailable, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Friday.
That would explain why Jet Greaves was recalled from the minors on an emergency basis. It seems Merzlikins won't be an option Saturday versus the Rangers, so look for either Greaves or Daniil Tarasov to get the start. Merzlikins has a 22-18-4 record, 3.04 GAA and .896 save percentage in 44 appearances in 2024-25.

Blue Jackets' Jet Greaves: Recalled Friday
Greaves was summoned by Columbus on an emergency basis Friday.
Greaves has a 2.84 GAA and a .915 save percentage in 34 outings with AHL Cleveland in 2024-25. He also has a 2-1-2 record, 2.98 GAA and .906 save percentage in five appearances with Columbus. His promotion under emergency circumstances suggests that either Elvis Merzlikins or Daniil Tarasov might miss Saturday's home game against the Rangers.

Blue Jackets' Erik Gudbranson: Nearing return
Gudbranson (shoulder) is expected to return at some point soon, perhaps against the Devils or Panthers on Monday or Thursday, respectively, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
Gudbranson was originally expected to be out of action until April, so it seems the blueliner is ahead of schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery. Once given the all-clear, the veteran defenseman will likely replace Jack Johnson in the lineup, which will likely see him and Jordan Harris firmly relegated to the press box as healthy scratches.

Blue Jackets' Jake Christiansen: Not playing Saturday
Christiansen (upper body) will not be available versus the Rangers on Saturday, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
Christiansen was injured Thursday versus Vegas, playing only 5:27. He has one goal, seven assists, 47 hits and 64 blocked shots across 65 contests this season. Look for Jack Johnson, who has been a healthy scratch in nine consecutive games, to rejoin the lineup in place of Christiansen.

Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Gets little help in loss
Merzlikins stopped 25 of 28 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Golden Knights, with Vegas' final goal getting scored into an empty net.
Columbus' skaters couldn't solve Adin Hill in the other crease, giving Merzlikins no margin for error. The loss was the fourth straight for the 30-year-old, a stretch in which the streaky netminder has a 3.82 GAA and an .885 save percentage. The Blue Jackets are still clinging to the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, but they might need Merzlikins to get hot over the final weeks of the regular season if they're going to close the deal.

Blue Jackets' Jake Christiansen: Will miss time with UBI
Christiansen sustained an upper-body injury Thursday versus the Golden Knights and won't play Saturday versus the Rangers, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
Christiansen was hurt early in the contest, but the Blue Jackets did not have an update prior to head coach Dean Evason's comments after the game. The 25-year-old Christiansen had not yet missed a game this season, but he's played a fairly limited role on the third pairing while earning eight points over 65 appearances. Jordan Harris or Jack Johnson will draw into the lineup Saturday to cover for Christiansen's absence.

Blue Jackets' Elvis Merzlikins: Gets starting nod Thursday
Merzlikins will defend the home crease versus Vegas on Thursday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports.
Merzlikins has lost his last three games, allowing 12 goals on 102 shots (.882 save percentage). The losing streak has raised his GAA to 3.04, while lowering his save percentage to .896 this season. Merzlikins is 22-17-4 with one shutout. The Golden Knights are generating 3.34 goals per game in 2024-25, fifth in the NHL.

Blue Jackets' Jordan Harris: Can't get into lineup
Harris was scratched for the eighth straight game in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Devils.
Harris has been a scratch for large stretches of the season. Jake Christiansen remains in the lineup, but he had just 9:43 of ice time Tuesday and doesn't appear to have the full trust of the coaching staff. Harris has managed just four points, 32 blocked shots, 19 hits, 13 shots on net and a minus-5 rating over 29 appearances, so he'll likely have a short leash if he manages to check back in any time soon.
