Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Puts up helper
Pettersson logged an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Pettersson snapped a four-game dry spell on offense, his longest drought of the campaign so far, when he set up Noel Acciari's empty-net tally. The 28-year-old Pettersson is up to seven points, 13 shots on net, 25 blocked shots, 14 hits, 15 PIM and a minus-5 rating over 16 contests. He's no stranger to putting up big numbers in non-scoring areas, but his pace on offense puts him on the fringe of fantasy rosters in standard formats.

Penguins' Kris Letang: Snags helper Friday
Letang logged an assist, two shots on goal, four hits and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Letang has earned three helpers over his last six contests as he tries to overcome a slow start to the campaign. The 37-year-old defenseman has two goals, four assists, 42 shots on net, 34 hits, 13 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a minus-6 rating through 16 appearances. Letang continues to see big minutes in a top-four role as well as power-play time, so he should be able to make progress on offense over time.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Nabs helper in return
Rust posted an assist, five shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Rust's return from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury didn't create immediate waves in the Penguins' lineup. He started the game on the second line, but head coach Mike Sullivan did play with his combinations during the contest. Rust is up to five points, 29 shots on net, nine hits, six blocked shots and a minus-5 rating through nine outings this season. He's already had two injury absences, so staying healthy will be paramount to his productivity the rest of the way.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Records 10th assist
Crosby notched an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Crosby continues to maintain a point-per-game pace for the year, though he's been better than that with five goals and four helpers over his last six contests. The 37-year-old helped out on an Erik Karlsson tally to open the scoring in the first period Friday. Crosby has six tallies, 10 assists, 48 shots on net, 17 hits and a minus-4 rating through 16 appearances in his usual top-line role this season.

Penguins' Noel Acciari: Fills empty net
Acciari scored an empty-net goal and blocked two shots in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Acciari has two points and eight shots on net over his last three games. The 32-year-old forward continues to play in a middle-six role as the Penguins search for line combinations that will lead to success. Acciari has just five points through 16 contests, but he's added 23 shots on net, 43 hits, 24 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating, so he could help fantasy managers who are looking for more than just offense in deep formats.

Penguins' Michael Bunting: Scores in Friday's win
Bunting scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Bunting has scored twice in the last three games, adding six shots on net and nine hits in that span. It's perhaps the first thaw after a cold start to the year cost the winger his spot in the Penguins' top six. He has just three points to go with 34 shots on net, 22 hits, 14 PIM and a minus-3 rating over 15 outings. Bunting is playing on the third line, but a strong stretch of offense could help him regain a better position in the lineup.

Penguins' Erik Karlsson: One of each in win
Karlsson scored a goal on five shots, dished an assist, added two PIM and logged two hits in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Karlsson picked up his second multi-point effort of the season. He did it in the first period, scoring the opening goal 3:11 into the game before setting up a Michael Bunting tally a few minutes later. Karlsson was indirectly called out by head coach Mike Sullivan after Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes, and it appears the message was received. The 34-year-old defenseman has 10 points through 16 contests, but he's also sporting a minus-7 rating with 42 shots on net, 17 blocked shots and six hits.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Pair of points in win
Malkin scored a goal on three shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Malkin notched his seventh multi-point effort of the campaign in this contest. He set up an Erik Karlsson goal in the first period before scoring the game-winner himself in the third. While it's good to see Malkin be explosive on offense at times, he's also been held off the scoresheet in nine games. The 38-year-old center has five goals, 13 helpers, 37 shots on net, 12 blocked shots and a plus-1 rating over 16 appearances this season. He's a high-risk, high-reward fantasy option until he can get to more steady scoring production.

Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Stands tall in win
Blomqvist stopped 32 of 34 shots in Friday's 4-2 win over the Capitals.
Blomqvist received his first start since Oct. 29 and turned in a good effort against a strong team. The Capitals were able to wash away a 2-0 deficit, but the Penguins scored twice in the third period to secure the win. Blomqvist improved to 3-4-0 with a 3.25 GAA and a .913 save percentage over seven outings (six starts) this season, though this was just the second time he's held a team to two goals. Alex Nedeljkovic will likely be back between the pipes Monday versus the Stars, but Blomqvist could start during a back-to-back next weekend, assuming Tristan Jarry isn't recalled from his conditioning loan prior to then.

Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Out Friday
Hayes (upper body) won't play Friday against Washington, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.
It will be Pittsburgh's second straight game without Hayes. He has three goals and four points in 14 appearances in 2024-25. Hayes will likely serve in a bottom-six capacity once he's healthy.

Penguins' Bryan Rust: Set to play Friday
Rust (lower body) was activated off injured reserve Friday, per the NHL media site, which sets the stage for him to play in this evening's game against Washington.
Rust, who has missed Pittsburgh's past five games, has three goals and four points in eight outings in 2024-25. He'll likely serve in a top-six capacity in his return, perhaps on the top line alongside Sidney Crosby. If Rust does play with Crosby, then Evgeni Malkin will shift to the second unit.

Penguins' Cody Glass: Moved to injured reserve
Glass (upper body) was put on injured reserve Friday, per the NHL media site.
Glass, who was injured Thursday, is ineligible to play in Pittsburgh's next three games but can be activated in time for next Friday's tilt in Columbus. He has four assists in 14 appearances in 2024-25. Bryan Rust was activated off injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Penguins' Blake Lizotte: Tallies lone goal in loss
Lizotte scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Lizotte's goal in the third period ended Pyotr Kochetkov's shutout bid. With two goals over four games this season, Lizotte has added a bit of unexpected depth scoring from the fourth line. He's produced four shots on net, 10 hits, three blocked shots and a plus-1 rating. The Penguins have frequently shuffled their lines looking for chemistry, and if Lizotte continues to play well, he may be due to move up the lineup.

Penguins' Alex Nedeljkovic: Rough night in Carolina
Nedeljkovic made 13 saves in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
The Penguins out-shot the opposition 36-18 on the night, but they were never really in it after Nedeljkovic allowed two goals in the first nine minutes of the first period. The 28-year-old has seen a heavy workload since Tristan Jarry's demotion, starting seven of Pittsburgh's last nine games, and it could be catching up with Nedeljkovic. On the season, he sports a 2-3-2 record with a 3.07 GAA and .883 save percentage.

Penguins' Cody Glass: Hurt in Thursday's game
Glass sustained an upper-body injury in Thursday's game versus the Hurricanes.
It's unclear what happened to Glass, but it's enough to keep him out for the rest of the game. The 25-year-old should be considered questionable to play Friday versus the Capitals. If he can't suit up, the Penguins may recall a forward or dress seven defensemen.

Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Unavailable Thursday
Hayes (upper body) will be absent from the lineup versus Carolina on Thursday, per Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff.
Hayes was likely injured Tuesday in a 4-3 shootout loss to Calgary, as he missed practice the following day. The 32-year-old has three goals and an assist in 14 contests this season. He is day-to-day and could return Friday in Washington.
