Penguins' Bryan Rust: Set to be available for Saturday
Rust (lower body) expects to be activated off injured reserve and play Saturday versus Washington, per Wes Crosby of NHL.com on Wednesday.
Rust missed the Penguins' 3-2 loss to Philadelphia on Feb. 8 due to the injury, but he's had the 4 Nations Face-Off break to recover. The 32-year-old has been a full participant in the Penguins' practices Tuesday and Wednesday. Rust will likely serve on Pittsburgh's top line Saturday alongside Sidney Crosby. That might result in Anthony Beauvillier moving out of the top six.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Set to return Saturday
Malkin (lower body) will be activated off injured reserve and play Saturday versus Washington, per Rob Rossi of The Athletic on Wednesday.
Malkin hasn't been in the lineup since Jan. 25, but he's been a full participant over the Penguins' past two practices and stated Wednesday that he's ready to return. The 38-year-old has nine goals and 34 points in 47 appearances in 2024-25. Malkin will likely center the second line Saturday, which might result in Kevin Hayes moving out of the top six.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Sent back to minors
Jarry was returned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Jarry's promotion to the NHL roster during the 4 Nations Face-Off was a technical move that kept the team compliant with NHL rules that require every roster to have at least two goalies. With Pittsburgh back in action versus Washington on Saturday, Jarry headed back down to Wilkes/Barre-Scranton, switching places with Joel Blomqvist.

Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Rejoining NHL roster
Blomqvist was promoted from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Blomqvist spent the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off with the Baby Pens, suiting up in three contests in which he went 1-1-1 while registering a .900 save percentage. With the Penguins resuming action with a back-to-back against the Capitals and Rangers on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, look for Blomqvist to split the workload with Alex Nedeljkovic.

Penguins' Emil Bemstrom: Brought up from minors
Bemstrom was called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Bemstrom's promotion is no doubt in part due to the absence of Sidney Crosby, who is still with Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Unless there are several forwards who remain unavailable against Washington on Saturday, Bemstrom figures to serve as a healthy scratch -- assuming he is still on the NHL roster come puck drop.

Penguins' Rickard Rakell: Battling illness
Rakell (illness) will not suit up for Team Sweden against Team USA on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Rakell did not record a point in the first two games of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. The right-shot forward's next chance to return to game action will be in the Penguins' home matchup against the Capitals on Saturday.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Snuffs out Finnish comeback
Crosby scored a goal and added an assist in Canada's 5-3 win over Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Monday.
Crosby's goal went into the empty net to snuff out a late-game comeback for the Finns, who had drawn within one goal with two, 6-on-5 goals in 23 seconds. He continues to show fantastic chemistry with Nathan MacKinnon, and the addition of Sam Reinhart to Canada's top line took it over the top. The trio combined for three goals and four assists.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Magical night in Canadian win
Crosby led Canada with three assists in a 4-3 overtime win over Sweden in the opening game of the 4 Nations Face-off on Wednesday.
It was Crosby's night. He was named the Player-of-the-Game as the crowd in the Bell Centre chanted his name. This was one of those never-forget nights for Sid -- the Habs drafted his dad in 1984 (240th), making them Crosby's favorite childhood team. His first assist was a blind backhand spin-a-rama that went cross-crease from the corner to Nathan MacKinnon early in the first frame. The second was a brilliant setup for Mark Stone, and the third was a smart drop pass from the offensive zone into the neutral zone to Mitch Marner, who entered the zone and wired a shot after Crosby was already on the bench. In his last 26 games with Team Canada, Crosby has 10 goals and 29 assists, and Canada has a plus-85 goal differential with him on the team. Pure leadership.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Playing Wednesday
Crosby confirmed he will be in the lineup against Sweden on Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
Crosby was already expected to suit up with Team Canada for Wednesday's 4 Nations Face-Off matchup with Sweden. Prior to suffering his upper-body injury with Pittsburgh, the world-class center racked up five goals and five assists in his previous eight outings and will look to bring that offensive firepower to Canada's lineup.

Penguins' Harrison Brunicke: Impressing in juniors
Brunicke has managed 19 points in 23 games with WHL Kamloops this season.
Brunicke was in the mix for a spot on the Penguins' roster coming out of training camp but was sent back to juniors to continue his development. The 18-year-old blueliner needs just two more points to match his total from last season (21) and has achieved those numbers in less than half as many contests. While far from a lock, Brunicke could be in contention for a roster spot heading into the 2025-26 campaign.

Penguins' Rutger McGroarty: Performing well in minors
McGroarty has registered six goals and 16 helpers in 39 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, including five points in his last 10 outings.
McGroarty struggled at the start of the 2024-25 campaign, managing just one helper in his first eight AHL contests but has seemingly found his game with the Baby Pens. With Pittsburgh likely headed for a third straight season without a postseason appearance, McGroarty could be one of a handful of youngsters to see minutes with the NHL club in the final few weeks of the year.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Available against Sweden
Crosby (upper body) will be in the lineup when Team Canada faces Sweden on Wednesday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reports.
Crosby missed the Penguins' last two games due to his upper-body issue but appears to be ready to play again. With Team Canada, the veteran center is slated to play on the second line with Nathan MacKinnon and Mark Stone while also suiting up with the No. 1 power-play unit. Barring any sort of setback, Crosby should be available for Pittsburgh's meeting with Washington on Feb. 22.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: En route to Montreal
Crosby (upper body) is traveling to Montreal and will skate Monday as part of Team Canada's ongoing evaluation for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, Darren Dreger of TSN reports Sunday.
Canada's roster needs to be finalized by 5 p.m. EST on Monday, and according to Dreger, Team Canada's hoping Crosby has shown enough progress by then to be kept on the roster and evaluated on a game-by-game basis. The 37-year-old skated Saturday but missed Pittsburgh's last two games. Canada's first game will be against Team Sweden on Wednesday.

Penguins' Danton Heinen: First point since trade
Heinen notched an assist and three shots on goal in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers.
Heinen ended his eight-game point drought. This was also his first helper in four appearances since the Canucks traded him to the Penguins in the Marcus Pettersson deal. Heinen is at 19 points, 55 shots on net, 57 hits, 28 blocked shots, 31 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 55 appearances this season. The 29-year-old forward is likely to continue filling a middle-six role for the Penguins, but he's unlikely to score enough to be a strong fantasy option.

Penguins' Matt Grzelcyk: Adds assist Saturday
Grzelcyk notched an assist in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers.
Grzelcyk has six assists over his last 11 outings. The 31-year-old blueliner continues to enjoy a career year, racking up 28 points, 69 shots on net, 71 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 57 appearances. He should maintain a top-four role the rest of the way, though he's on a one-year contract and could end up with a smaller role if he's dealt to a contender.

Penguins' Erik Karlsson: Collects goal Saturday
Karlsson tallied a goal, took four shots on net and blocked three shots in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Philadelphia.
Karlsson netted Pittsburgh's second goal just over four minutes into the second period. The 34-year-old blueliner has six goals, 40 points, 143 shots on target and 73 blocks in 57 appearances this season. While his goal total is slowly rising toward his total of 11 from a year ago, Karlsson ranks 11th among defenders with 32 assists. He is set to play for Team Sweden during the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Penguins' Anthony Beauvillier: Nets goal Saturday
Beauvillier scored a goal, took nine shots on net and provided four hits in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Flyers.
Beauvillier's tally was the last goal scored in Saturday's contest and came just one minute after Philadelphia's Travis Konecny momentarily gave the Flyers a two-goal lead. Beauvillier's nine shots on net marked his most in a game this season, besting his previous season high of seven from Pittsburgh's season opener. Overall, the 27-year-old winger has 11 goals, 18 points, 101 shots on net and 97 hits in 56 games this season. With Evgeni Malkin (lower body), Bryan Rust (lower body) and Sidney Crosby (upper body) missing Saturday's game, Beauvillier moved up to the top line and second power-play unit. He is likely to return to a middle-six role once the Penguins are fully healthy but can still make a small impact in fantasy by putting shots on net.

Penguins' Vladislav Kolyachonok: Claimed off waivers
Pittsburgh claimed Kolyachonok off waivers from Utah on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Kolyachonok recorded two goals, three assists, 12 shots on net, 19 blocked shots, and 14 hits in 23 appearances with Utah during the 2024-25 season. The team planned to assign him to AHL Tucson if he cleared waivers; however, he will now have the chance to play regularly with the Penguins.
