  • Reds' Brady Singer: Falls to Pirates

Singer (3-7) took the loss Sunday against the Pirates, allowing five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. He struck out six.

Four of the runs charged to Singer came in the second inning, when Pittsburgh led off the frame with four consecutive hits, capped by a Tyler Callihan two-run homer. Coming into the day, Singer had pitched to a 2.33 ERA across 27 innings in his previous five outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 5.12 with a 1.54 WHIP and 65:25 K:BB across 16 starts (77.1 innings) this season. Singer is currently lined up to face the Orioles at home his next time out.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Sprained ankle

De La Cruz sprained his ankle trying to get out of the batter's box in Sunday's loss to the Pirates, but stayed in the game. The team worked on the ankle during the rain delay, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

After the game, manager Terry Francona said that they'd re-evaluate De La Cruz on Monday. Often with ankle sprains, the day after is critical. The Reds continue their road trip with a big four-game series in Milwaukee on Monday.

  • Reds' Eugenio Suarez: X-rays inconclusive

Suarez (hand/wrist) underwent X-rays, which were inconclusive, after his departure from Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Pirates, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Suarez left Sunday's contest in the eighth inning after taking a 92.4 mph four-seam fastball from Mitch Keller off his left hand/wrist in the top of the sixth. The veteran slugger is expected to undergo additional imaging Monday morning, and his status moving forward will likely be updated then. The Reds are set to host the Brewers for a four-game set beginning Monday, and Suarez can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Departs after HBP

Suarez was removed from Sunday's game against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch in the hand/wrist, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Suarez went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before being plunked in the sixth inning. He remained in to run the bases but was replaced by a pinch hitter the next time through the order. The 34-year-old seems likely to undergo precautionary X-rays and should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.

  • Reds' Graham Ashcraft: Another elbow scan Tuesday

Ashcraft (elbow) will have another scan of his UCL on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

Ashcraft had a PRP injection in the elbow at the beginning of the month, so presumably this scan will be to gauge the progress in the ligament following the injection. He's already on the 60-day IL, so there's no imminent return.

  • Reds' Brandon Williamson: Injures finger in rehab

Williamson (shoulder) injured his finger while working out, and his overall rehab has been pushed back by about 10 days as a result, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports.

The shoulder injury that put Williamson on the IL originally remains the primary concern. When he returns, it's unlikely that a rotation spot will be available to him, with Hunter Greene due back soon.

  • Reds' Matt McLain: Taking seat for second straight day

McLain is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Cincinnati will go with Elly De La Cruz and Edwin Arroyo as its starters in the middle infield for the second day in a row while McLain is relegated to the bench. Arroyo has generated a modest .644 OPS since his call-up from Triple-A Louisville on June 1 and may need to improve his production to seize control of an everyday at second base, but McLain hasn't done much to earn himself a larger share of the playing time. After going hitless in eight at-bats over his last three starts, McLain's batting average has dropped to .198 on the season.

  • Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Awarded second straight start

Arroyo will start at second base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Since Elly De La Cruz returned from the 10-day injured list Tuesday and pushed Matt McLain off shortstop, Arroyo and McLain have been splitting time at the keystone. Arroyo may hold a slight edge in playing time between the two, as he's started three games to McLain's two and will now be included in the lineup for a second straight day while the Reds go up against another righty (Mitch Keller). Since being called up from Triple-A Louisville on June 1, Arroyo has produced a pedestrian .263/.328/.316 over 65 plate appearances, so he likely has more work to do before taking firmer control of the second-base gig.

  • Reds' Nathaniel Lowe: Left out of starting nine

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

The Pirates will send right-hander Mitch Keller to the bump for the series finale, but the left-handed-hitting Lowe will be included from the lineup nonetheless while he's gone just 2-for-13 with a 2:6 BB:K over his last six games. Cincinnati will go with Spencer Steer as its starting first baseman in place of Lowe.

  • Reds' TJ Friedl: Back in majors

The Reds recalled Friedl from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday.

The 30-year-old was optioned to Triple-A in early June after posting a .179/.259/.256 slash line through 178 plate appearances, but he'll get another chance with the Reds after Blake Dunn (elbow) landed on the injured list. Friedl filled the strong side of a platoon in center field at the start of the season, though it's unclear if he'll slide back into that role after posting an .841 OPS in 18 games for Louisville. The Reds will include him in the starting lineup and batting eighth versus right-hander Mitch Keller during Sunday's series finale in Pittsburgh.

  • Reds' Blake Dunn: Shelved with elbow sprain

The Reds placed Dunn on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right elbow sprain.

Dunn was sent in for an MRI on Saturday after being lifted from Friday's 6-4 win over the Pirates due to elbow discomfort, and though the severity of the injury isn't yet known, he's been diagnosed with a sprain and will remain out until at least July 7. Cincinnati recalled TJ Friedl from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move, but it's unclear if he'll be deployed in the strong side of a platoon in center field in Dunn's stead, or if Dane Myers will step in as the preferred option at the position against both righties and lefties. Noelvi Marte has also made two starts in center field this season but is more ideally suited for a corner-outfield spot.

  • Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Moves to leadoff

De La Cruz batted leadoff and went 0-for-4 with a walk in Saturday's 9-6 win over Pittsburgh.

De La Cruz moved from second in the order to leadoff, as Blake Dunn (elbow) was held out Saturday. Dunn's condition has not yet been determined, so De La Cruz could remain atop the order until Dunn is ready to return. In four games back from the injured list, De La Cruz is 1-for-14 with three walks, one RBI and one run scored.

  • Reds' Dane Myers: Remains in center field

Myers started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Pirates.

Myers replaced Blake Dunn (elbow) during Friday's game when the latter was removed and remained in center field Saturday. An MRI on Dunn's elbow Saturday did not lend clarity to his condition, and he could head back to Cincinnati for further testing. Until Dunn is ready to return, Myers is expected to get most of the work in center field. He's slashing .252/.356/.374 with three home runs, 13 RBI, five steals and 18 runs over 135 plate appearances (62 games).

  • Reds' Blake Dunn: MRI inconclusive

Dunn underwent an MRI on his right elbow Saturday and is likely to return to Cincinnati for further testing, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Dunn was held out of the lineup for Saturday's 9-7 win over the Pirates after being removed from Friday's 6-4 victory due to elbow discomfort. The Reds want to conduct further tests before landing on a diagnosis for his injury. Dunn was replaced in center field Saturday by Dane Myers and as the team's leadoff hitter by Elly De La Cruz.

  • Reds' Sal Stewart: Goes deep in win

Stewart went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Pirates.

Stewart opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning before adding an RBI single in the third. Despite hitting just .227 with 20 hits in 88 June at-bats, the 22-year-old has still been productive with 20 RBI this month. For the year, he's slashing .252/.341/.454 with 15 homers, 57 RBI, 43 runs scored and 11 steals across 352 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Plays hero Saturday

Suarez went 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Pirates.

Suarez came up clutch, launching a three-run shot off Gregory Soto to give the Reds a two-run lead in the top of the ninth inning. The veteran slugger is batting just .190 through 21 games in June, though he's now hit safely in three straight with three extra-base hits. On the season, he's slashing .210/.276/.379 with eight homers, 29 RBI and 18 runs scored across 214 plate appearances.

  • Reds' Chase Burns: Mixed results in no-decision

Burns did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Pirates, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

Burns tallied a season-high 10 strikeouts but also tied a season high with five earned runs allowed for just the second time in 16 outings. He generated a whopping 17 swinging strikes on 93 pitches and has now worked at least five innings in every start this season. The 23-year-old owns a 2.36 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 112:29 K across 91.2 frames this season and lines up for a road matchup with the Brewers next week.

  • Reds' Chase Petty: Earns first career save

Petty earned the save in Saturday's 9-7 win over the Pirates, allowing no hits and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not record a strikeout.

Petty was called on to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and needed just 12 pitches to collect his first major-league save. The 23-year-old has been strong since being recalled June 10, allowing just one earned run in six outings during that stretch. He owns a 3.72 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 8:2 K across 19.1 innings with the Reds this season, though he likely won't factor into the closer mix once Emilio Pagan (hamstring) returns from his current rehab assignment.
