Suarez, who was hit by a pitch in Monday's game, is confident he will return to the lineup Friday, but the Diamondbacks want him to undergo an MRI when the swelling subsides. That potentially could happen Thursday. Ildemaro Vargas took over at third base Tuesday, but he suffered a fractured foot and landed on the 10-day injured list. Tim Tawa is currently handling the hot corner, and the team also called up infielder Blaze Alexander from Triple-A Reno.

Suarez is still experiencing swelling in his right hand as a result of being hit by a pitch in Monday's 10-0 win over Chicago and will miss a second straight start. The expectation is that he will avoid the 10-day injured list, although more will be known after Suarez undergoes an MRI once the swelling in his hand subsides. Tim Tawa will cover third base and bat ninth for the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Suarez (hand) is expected to miss multiple games while dealing with swelling in his right hand, Casey Drottar of MLB.com reports.
Suarez was hit in the right hand by a fastball in the first inning of Monday's contest against the White Sox. The third baseman is dealing with "a ton of swelling," and there's a "minimal chance that he plays in a game" over the next couple of days, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Once the swelling goes down, Suarez will undergo an MRI, but Lovullo doesn't expect the veteran to require a stint on the injured list. With an off day looming Thursday, Suarez could be ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener versus the Marlins at the earliest.

Suarez (hand) exited Monday's contest against the White Sox in the bottom of the first inning, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.
Suarez was hit in the right hand by a 95.9 mph fastball from Shane Smith in the top of the first inning, momentarily remaining in the game after he looked to be in a great deal of pain. The 33-year-old removed himself from the contest before taking the field on defense in the bottom of the frame. More information on Suarez will likely be provided in the near future, while Ildemaro Vargas replaced him at third base in the meantime.
