Cubs' Michael Busch: Doubles twice in win
Busch went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Reds.
Busch laced his 16th and 17th doubles of the season to help lead Chicago to victory, and he hit them both against southpaw Andrew Abbott to boot. The first baseman goes into the break with five hits across his last two games, but it's mostly been an underwhelming first half following his breakout 2025. Busch has a .763 OPS, 11 home runs and 49 RBI across 95 contests so far this year. In 2025, he finished with an .866 OPS, 34 homers and 90 RBI in 155 regular-season games.

Cubs' Alex Bregman: Homers again Sunday
Bregman went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, an additional run scored and four total RBI in Sunday's 8-4 win over the Reds.
Bregman goes into the All-Star break with home runs on consecutive days to give himself a little momentum after a mostly uneven first half of the season. The veteran third baseman is batting .241 with a .695 OPS, nine long balls and 41 RBI across 94 contests. During his career, Bregman's best two months by OPS are August and July, so he could be primed for continued success after the break.

Cubs' Jacob Webb: Grabs fourth save
Webb recorded the final two outs Sunday to pick up the save in an 8-4 win over Cincinnati.
After Caleb Thielbar allowed a pair of singles, Webb entered with one out in the ninth inning and proceeded to record the final two outs, locking down his fourth save this season. With Daniel Palencia (elbow) on the IL, Webb and Trent Thornton have stepped up as Chicago's primary ninth-inning options. Webb now has three saves in his last four appearances while holding opponents scoreless in his last nine innings. He'll head into the All-Star break with a 3.05 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 48:16 K:BB across 41.1 innings.

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Grabs fifth win
Boyd (5-1) earned the win Sunday against the Reds, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk across 6.1 innings. He struck out three.
All four of the runs charged to Boyd came in the third inning, capped by a Eugenio Suarez two-run homer with two outs. However, the Cubs would rally for four runs of their own in the seventh, giving Boyd his third straight win. Since returning from the IL in late June, the left-hander has pitched to a 2.08 ERA in four starts (22 innings). Overall, his ERA sits at 4.50 with a 1.28 WHIP and 47:13 K:BB across nine outings (46 innings).

Cubs' Michael Conforto: Idle against southpaw
Conforto is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
The left-handed slugger will head to the bench for the third time in four games, with all three of his absences coming against left-handed pitching. Conforto will give up his spot in the lineup to Kevin Alcantara, who will bat ninth as the DH.

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Blasts sixth home run Saturday
Kelly went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 5-3 win against the Reds on Saturday.
Kelly hit his second home run in his last four games in the sixth inning, giving him six long balls on the season. The veteran catcher was making his fourth straight start, with Saturday's appearance coming at DH as Miguel Amaya handled duties behind the plate. Kelly and Amaya have been alternating pretty regularly as Chicago's backstop, limiting the fantasy ceiling of each as long as they're splitting the workload.

Cubs' Alex Bregman: Plates winning runs with homer
Bregman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in a 5-3 win against the Reds on Saturday.
Bregman made a huge impact with his lone hit, as he launched a two-run homer to left field in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie. That ended up being the decisive knock, as neither team scored for the remainder of the game. Bregman entered Saturday in an 0-for-11, three-game skid, and he's had a subpar first half of the campaign, slashing .236/.333/.345 with eight homers, 43 runs, 37 RBI and two stolen bases through 93 contests.

Cubs' Trent Thornton: Collects one-out save
Thornton recorded a save against the Reds on Saturday, retiring the only batter he faced on a groundout.
Ryan Rolison was handed the ball in the ninth inning with Chicago up 5-3, but he was lifted with two outs after putting runners on second and third base. Thornton was summoned to go head-to-head with Sal Stewart, and the game ended when Stewart grounded out to second. Thornton thus logged his third save of the season and notched his ninth scoreless appearance across his past 10 outings. Since Daniel Palencia (elbow) landed on the injured list June 16, four different Cubs relievers have notched a save, and three (including Thornton) have posted multiple saves. One of those three pitchers (Jordan Wicks) has since been sent down to the minors, so it appears Thornton and Jacob Webb are sharing closer duties for the time being.

Cubs' Javier Assad: Posts another effective start
Assad completed five innings against Cincinnati in a no-decision Saturday, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out four batters.
It wasn't the most dominant of performances by Assad, as he served up two homers among seven total hits. However, both long balls were of the solo variety, and the the right-hander otherwise dodged damage in the scoring column -- in part due to throwing an efficient 54 of 82 pitches for strikes and issuing zero free passes. Since re-entering the rotation July 5, Assad has held his own, allowing two runs over 9.2 frames with a 6:2 K:BB. However, Jameson Taillon (hamstring) is slated to return shortly after the All-Star break, and Edward Cabrera (hamstring) may not be far behind, so it's up in the air whether Assad will remain in the rotation beyond late July.

Cubs' Dylan Marionneaux: Heading to North Side
The Cubs selected Marionneaux with the No. 126 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Marionneaux may end up being a cost-saving pick for the Cubs, as he was not ranked by Baseball America or MLB Pipeline before the draft. The Northwestern State product logged a 3.51 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 81:18 K:BB in 84.2 innings this spring.

Cubs' Carson Jasa: Selected 98th overall by Cubs
The Cubs selected Jasa with the No. 98 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
A 6-foot-7 right-hander out of Nebraska, Jasa took a big step forward this spring to vault just inside the top 100. His curveball in particular has been a standout pitch, but his repeatability issues with his delivery point to very real reliever risk.

Cubs' Myles Bailey: Big power heading to Cubs
The Cubs selected Bailey with the No. 75 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
A hulking 6-foot-4, 257-pound first baseman from Florida State, Bailey slugged .913 with 13 homers in 26 games this spring before suffering a season-ending ankle injury that will prevent him from debuting until 2027. He strikes out much more often (24.6 K%) than the typical top-100 pick, but Bailey also walked 28.7 percent of the time with a .582 OBP this spring. He could be a three-true outcomes masher if he can make enough contact.

Cubs' Caden Sorrell: Sneaks into second round
The Cubs selected Sorrell with the No. 62 overall pick in the 2026 First-Year Player Draft.
Sorrell offers an impressive combination of power, speed and production in the SEC, but there are significant concerns about his swing decisions and ability to make consistent contact in the zone. He was extremely productive the last two seasons, logging isolated slugging figures north of .400 with 35 home runs in 82 games as a sophomore and junior. A hand injury limited him to 26 games last season and his strikeout rate jumped from 21.9 percent in 2025 to 23 percent this year -- a high mark for any collegian entering the draft. Sorrell has plus speed but could slow down as he fills out his 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame. The lefty-hitting slugger fits best in right field thanks to his plus arm.

Cubs' Jake Woodford: DFA'd by Cubs
The Cubs designated Woodford for assignment Saturday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
Woodford's run with the Cubs will end after just one appearance, during which he gave up three earned runs on five hits while striking out three batters in two innings. Now sporting a 7.46 ERA and 1.82 WHIP between Chicago and Milwaukee this season, the 29-year-old is likely to clear waivers once again.

Cubs' Phil Maton: Back from injured list
The Cubs reinstated Maton (knee) from the injured list Saturday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.
Maton landed on the injured list in late June with right knee tendinitis but has now been cleared to return to Chicago's bullpen after tossing 1.2 shutout innings during his lone rehab outing at Triple-A. The 33-year-old has struggled to find his footing this year, turning in a 6.08 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 26.2 innings. He'll replace Jake Woodford on the active roster.
