  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Rough spring continues

Suarez allowed four runs on five hits and one walk over one-third of an inning in a Cactus League contest against Colorado on Wednesday.

Suarez entered in the fourth inning and surrendered a single to five of the first six batters he faced to allow the Rockies to plate three runs. The right-hander walked the final batter of his outing to load the bases before being pulled. Suarez has given up eight runs over 3.2 frames across five appearances this spring while posting a 4:4 K:BB, and it's worth noting that Suarez struggled with a 5.24 ERA over the final two months of the regular season last year. However, he's almost certain to open this season as San Diego's closer, with Jason Adam and Jeremiah Estrada next in line should Suarez's struggles continue beyond the exhibition slate.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Secures 36th save

Suarez walked one and struck out one in a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Suarez has converted three straight save chances but has taken three blown saves while allowing eight runs on 12 hits and six walks over 12 innings in September. The closer has managed to keep runs off the board in four of his last six outings. He's now at a 2.77 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 59:16 K:BB through 65 innings while adding 36 saves in 42 chances this season.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Earns 35th save

Suarez got the save Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing one run on three hits over an inning of work. He did not record a strikeout.

Suarez entered with the Padres up 4-1 and quickly made the game interesting, allowing three straight base hits to open up the frame. Suarez was likely on his last batter with Shohei Ohtani on deck and got Miguel Rojas to ground into a 5-4-3 triple play to end the game on one swing. Suarez has now allowed at least run in four of his last eight outings and has given up eight runs over his last eight innings. It doesn't seem as though his grip on the closer's role is slipping away, but the Padres have capable fill-in options in Tanner Scott and Jason Adam if Suarez's struggles continue into the playoffs. Suarez now owns a 2.81 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 35 saves in 64 innings this season.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Closes out White Sox

Suarez earned the save Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one hit and striking out two during a scoreless ninth inning.

Suarez allowed just a two-out single before striking out Gavin Sheets to end the game. Sunday was just his second outing with multiple strikeouts since Aug. 10, and he's converted just three of his past six save chances and has given up seven runs in that span. Suarez has still been elite in his first season as a closer overall, as he owns a 2.71 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB in 63 innings while racking up 34 saves.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Blows sixth save

Suarez allowed two runs on a hit and a walk while striking out one over one inning Friday, taking a blown save in a 3-2 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Suarez walked Gavin Sheets and allowed a two-run home run to Lenyn Sosa with two outs in the ninth inning. September hasn't been kind to Suarez -- he's blown three of his seven save chances this month while allowing seven runs over nine innings. For the season, he's 33-for-39 in save chances with a 2.76 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 56:15 K:BB through 62 innings. Should Suarez continue to falter, the Padres are not lacking in closing options, with Tanner Scott and Jason Adam among their most effective setup men.
