This was his fourth quality start, though he hasn't earned a win in any of those appearances and has gone winless over eight consecutive starts. The veteran lefty established a season high in strikeouts despite tossing only 53 of 90 pitches for strikes, but Corbin left the mound with the Nats in a 1-0 hole before they took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning. He's given up three earned runs or less in four of his last five starts, and while his 4.23 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings over that stretch aren't particularly impressive, they represent a big improvement on his season-long numbers. Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Sunday that Corbin's next turn through the rotation will be skipped, which lines up the left-hander to next take the mound Saturday against the Marlins, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
The 34-year-old's regular turn through the rotation lines up for Tuesday in Detroit, but Washington will instead take advantage of Monday's team off day to move him to the back of the rotation. Corbin now lines up to make his next start on nine days rest, which comes on the heels of a four-start stretch in which he has a 7.22 ERA and 15:9 K:BB over 23.2 innings.
Corbin (1-7) took the loss Wednesday, surrendering six runs on seven hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over 5.1 innings as the Nationals were routed 9-1 by the Mets. He struck out three.
Luis Torrens took him deep twice while Francisco Lindor also belted a homer off Corbin, and two of the other hits off him also went for extra bases. The 34-year-old lefty offers nothing but length at this stage of his career -- Corbin's lasted at least five innings in seven straight starts, but he has a 5.63 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 22:14 K:BB through 40 frames to show for it. He lines up to make his next trip to the mound early next week in Detroit.

Corbin just continues to eat up innings for the Nationals. He's now allowed at least four runs in each of his last six starts dating back to last season. The Dodgers got to him for three runs in the first two innings before Enrique Hernandez took him deep in the fifth. Corbin managed to get into the seventh but was pulled with one out and runners on the corners and the Dodgers would tack on another run before the inning concluded. The 34-year-old owns an 8.06 ERA, 1.97 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings. He's allowed 36 hits over four starts thus far and is set for a rematch with the Dodgers next week.
