Analysis

After it hit in the first inning with a home run on Wednesday, I'm hopping right back on the Rafael Devers total bases train on Thursday. Devers has a ten game hitting streak, six of which he's gotten multiple hits and nine of which he's reached 2+ total bases. I'm riding the hot streak while I can...especially in a bullpen game for the Pirates. At his best, Devers is one of the best hitters in the game and he's shown it of late, though it's too bad his team is far out of contention.

This matchup will be an experience vs experience type of game. Akron's offense has a ton of experience, as does the defense of Wake Forest. Because of the pace of play factor and both teams ability to run the football. I expect this game to be a lower scoring, tightly contested contest.

Analysis

This is hoping that SIU preseason All-American quarterback DJ Williams doesn't play after leaving the opener with an injury. He's being called week-to-week, so you'd think not. The Salukis were upset without him at West Florida with backup Jake Curry throwing three picks. Then SIU had to travel back home, then here to Alabama. We get over a key number of 24 for Samford's home opener. The Bulldogs are just one victory shy of the 500-win mark all-time. Their QB is Oregon State transfer Gabari Johnson.

Even though Miami's ace Sandy Alcantara is on the mound on Thursday, I'm backing Michael Wacha and the Royals to avoid the series sweep. Surprisingly, Miami has lost four straight Alcantara starts and 7 of his last 10 outings. Meanwhile, Kansas City has won three straight Wacha starts and 5 of his last 8 outings. Since the All-Star Break, Kansas City's starter has given up two earned runs or less in 6 of his 8 starts. I think Wacha turns in another quality outing and leads the Royals to a victory at home on Thursday evening.

One of the biggest moves of the CFB offseason was Colorado's hiring of Brennan Marion as their offensive coordinator. His ability to get the most out of the run game and QB with his Go-Go Offense has been well documented. Speaking of run game, that's what the Yellow Jackets do really well. Expect this game to be won or lost on the ground game, which means it'll be more than likely a field goal type contest.
