Chiefs' Mecole Hardman: Finishing season on IR
    36m ago

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Hardman (knee) will not be activated from injured reserve, ruling him out for a return during the playoffs, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Hardman's 21-day practice window thus comes to a close without him being activated in advance of Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bills, or a potential Super Bowl appearance should Kansas City advance past Buffalo. He appeared in 12 games with the Chiefs during the regular season, securing 12 of 14 targets for 90 yards, rushing five times for 62 yards and a score and playing a key role in the return game. Hardman is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Bills' Matt Milano: Limited at practice
    1h ago

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Milano (hamstring) was a limited participant at practice, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Milano played a season-high 88 percent of defensive snaps during last Sunday's divisional-round win over the Ravens, in which he compiled three tackles (one solo). The veteran linebacker appears to have picked up a hamstring issue in the process, but he'll have two more days to upgrade his activity levels before Buffalo discloses designations for Sunday's AFC Championship Game at Kansas City.

Bills' Christian Benford: Practices in limited fashion
    2h ago

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Benford practiced in a limited capacity and remains in the concussion protocol, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Benford is making progress as he works to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol in time for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs. The starting cornerback will need to gain full clearance from the protocol in order to be eligible to play Sunday, including from an independent neurologist. He's currently following a similar trajectory to Ray Davis, who sustained a concussion during Buffalo's wild-card win over Denver but gained clearance in time for the AFC Divisional Round.

Bills' Taylor Rapp: Misses Wednesday's practice
    2h ago

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Rapp (hip) will not practice and remains day-to-day, Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site reports.

Rapp is dealing with a hip injury that forced him to depart Sunday's divisional-round win over the Ravens after playing just 33 percent of defensive snaps. The starting safety will have two more opportunities to upgrade his involvement at practice ahead of Sunday's AFC Championship Game at Kansas City, but if Rapp can't get healthy in time to face the Chiefs, Cole Bishop will likely be called upon to start alongside Damar Hamlin.

    2h ago

Sutton made 15 tackles (seven solo) and three passes defensed across nine regular-season appearances (two starts) with the Steelers in 2024.

Sutton opened the 2024 campaign serving an eight-game suspension, relating to an incident last March in which he was charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery. Once eligible to retake the field, Sutton mostly contributed in a depth role for Pittsburgh, though down the stretch he took over a key role at slot cornerback. The 29-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Trice racked up 21 tackles (15 solo) and two passes defensed, including one interception, across six regular-season appearances with the Steelers in 2024.

Trice, a 2023 seventh-round pick, started Pittsburgh's final three games of the regular season, but he was then inactive for the team's wild-card round loss to the Ravens. This offseason, Trice will compete to earn a larger rotational role on defense, while continuing to operate as a contributor on special teams.

Twins' Pablo Lopez: Named Opening Day starter
    2h ago

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli named Lopez the team's Opening Day starter Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

It's pretty early to be naming an Opening Day starter, but Baldelli chose to let the cat out of the bag during an interview on the Inside Twins podcast. Lopez had a relatively disappointing 2024, going 15-10 while posting a 4.08 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 198:41 K:BB over 185.1 innings. His xERA was 3.67, however, and he collected a 2.77 mark in 13 second-half starts.

Trivino hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 while working his way back from Tommy John surgery and had to have a rehab assignment shut down in September due to a shoulder issue, but it would appear he's healthy now.

Rays' Taylor Walls: Avoids arbitration with Tampa Bay
    3h ago

The Rays and Walls avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with a $2.45 million club option for 2026 on Wednesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The buyout on the option is $50,000, so Walls is guaranteed at least $1.4 million. Walls, 28, slashed only .183/.282/.248 over 84 games for the Rays in 2024 but remains an excellent defender and should get ample time at shortstop in 2025.

Sarr recorded a career-high five blocks in the losing effort which was a big step in the right direction -- he had a total of nine blocks in his previous 10 games. He remains a huge project on the offensive end, however, as he's hitting 38.4 percent from the field in 11 January appearances.

He's shooting 39.8 percent from the field in January, posting averages of 8.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.7 three-pointers over his last 12 outings. Wennberg provided an assist in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Predators.

Wennberg has two helpers over five contests since he returned from a one-game absence due to an illness. The 30-year-old center moved to the wing for the Sharks' back-to-back in Boston and Nashville. One of Wennberg or Mikael Granlund has often been shifted to the wing at times to stay in the top six. Kunin ended a seven-game point drought with his first-period tally. The 27-year-old hadn't scored since Dec. 23 against the Canucks, though it's not unusual for him to have some slumps as more of a physical checking forward. He's up to 11 goals and seven assists over 50 appearances, matching his point production exactly from 77 contests in 2023-24. Kunin also has 73 shots on net, 127 hits, 50 blocked shots, 33 PIM and a minus-14 rating this season.

The 21-year-old has returned to a bottom-six role after often featuring on the second line prior to his suspension. The forward has produced 10 points, 45 shots on goal, 37 PIM and 119 hits over 38 appearances, bringing physicality to the Predators' lineup, though he has to avoid crossing the line after a lengthy suspension history in the junior and AHL ranks.
