Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Feared to have torn Achilles
Jets head coach Robert Saleh said that Johnson likely tore his right Achilles' tendon during Sunday's 24-17 win over the Titans, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Johnson went down with a non-contact injury in the third quarter, and after being checked out extensively by trainers, he was carted off the field. He will undergo additional tests, but if the torn Achilles' tendon is confirmed, Johnson will require season-ending surgery. Johnson's injury takes on greater importance to the Jets' ongoing stalemate with defensive end Haason Reddick, leaving the team without two of its top edge rushers. Will McDonald and Takkarist McKinley are the likely candidates to move into Johnson's starting spot at defensive end opposite Micheal Clemons for the Jets' Week 3 matchup with the Patriots.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Carted off field
Johnson has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against Tennessee due to an Achilles injury, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Johnson's foot got stuck in the turf during a Will Levis 21-yard scramble in the third quarter, and the former was carted off the field after being checked on by trainers, per Albert Breer of SI.com. It's a big blow for the Jets' defense as Haason Reddick continues to hold out for a contract extension. Will McDonald and Takkarist McKinley will see more snaps at defensive end alongside starter Micheal Clemons with Johnson sidelined for the rest of Sunday's game.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Breaks out in second season
Johnson had 7.5 sacks among his 55 tackles (36 solo) in 2023, while adding seven passes defensed, including an interception that he returned for a touchdown.
Johnson's 37-yard pick six in Week 17 against the Browns was the cherry on top of a breakout sophomore season in which the 2022 first-round draft pick showed off his versatility with 7.5 sacks and seven passes defensed. Johnson's expected to maintain a starting role on the edge in 2024.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Returns interception for TD in loss
Johnson had three solo tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception, which he returned 37 yards for a touchdown, in Thursday's 37-20 loss to the Browns.
Johnson showed off his playmaking skills Thursday. He scored his first NFL touchdown on a pick-six of Joe Flacco in the second quarter and scooped up a Pierre Strong fumble in the fourth. The 2022 first-round draft pick has been overshadowed by some bigger names on New York's defense, but Johnson has turned into a quality starter in his second NFL season with 6.5 sacks among his 53 tackles (34 solo).

Johnson had four tackles (two solo), including 1.5 sacks, in Sunday's 13-8 loss to the Falcons.
After mustering just 2.5 sacks in 14 appearances as a rookie, Johnson has 6.5 sacks through 12 games in his second NFL season, including 4.5 in his last six games. The Jets' third first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft (26th overall) hasn't garnered nearly as much fanfare as preceding picks Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, or even early second-rounder Breece Hall, but Johnson's starting to establish himself as another franchise cornerstone from that promising draft class.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: Doubles sack total in OT win
Johnson had six tackles (three solo), including two sacks, in Sunday's 13-10 overtime win over the Giants.
Johnson had two sacks entering Week 8 and was able to match that total thanks to two takedowns of Tommy DeVito in the last two minutes of the second quarter. Johnson leads the team with four sacks on the season and will look to add to that total in Week 9 against the Chargers on Monday night.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson: One sack in win
Johnson registered five tackles (four solo) and a sack in Monday's 22-16 overtime win over the Bills.
Johnson got the start at edge after the Jets opted to sit Carl Lawson -- who has been dealing with back issues -- for the season opener. Johnson was effective in his 48 defensive snaps and took down Josh Allen in the backfield for a two-yard sack in the fourth quarter. Expect Johnson to continue to get snaps on defense even if Lawson is able to return for the Jets' Week 2 matchup against the Cowboys.
