  • Giants' Tyler Rogers: Awarded win Tuesday

Rogers (1-2) pitched a perfect inning and was awarded the win Tuesday over the Cubs.

The Giants led from the second inning on during the bullpen game. Rogers was the first reliever to post a clean outing, and the official scorer handed him his first win of the campaign. Aside from a June 18 three-run meltdown versus these same Cubs in Chicago, Rogers has had a good month. He's kept runs off the board in his other 10 appearances while adding four holds in a setup role. For the season, he's at a 2.92 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 27:2 K:BB with a save, 12 holds and a blown save across 37 innings.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Strikes out five as opener

Rodriguez allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out five over 2.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Tuesday.

Rodriguez made his first career start and had the most work of the Giants' six pitchers in the contest, though he was never going to pitch deep enough to have a chance at the win. He's given up 11 runs over 14.1 innings in June, but he has a 15:4 K:BB in that span that suggests he's got a skill set that can keep him in the majors. For the year, he's at a 4.70 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB over 30.2 innings through 19 appearances. With the Giants' rotation unlikely to gain reinforcements until July, Rodriguez may see a few more opener assignments over the next couple of weeks if manager Bob Melvin opts to protect the pitchers the team has called up to plug holes.

  • Giants' Hayden Birdsong: Making MLB debut Wednesday

The Giants will promote Birdsong from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday to start against the Cubs, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The Giants' rotation has been hit hard by injuries recently, so Birdsong will receive an opportunity to pitch in the majors just two weeks after reaching Triple-A. The 22-year-old right-hander posted a 2.05 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 48.1 innings with Double-A Richmond, but he's slowed down at Sacramento, allowing five earned runs in nine innings across his first two starts. Birdsong is considered one of the best pitching prospects in the Giants' farm system, though he may struggle initially in the majors following a rapid ascension through the minor leagues.

  • Giants' Austin Slater: Sitting Tuesday

Slater isn't in the Giants' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and an RBI during Monday's game, Slater will get a day to regroup Tuesday while Luis Matos starts in right field, batting ninth.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Getting Tuesday off

Flores isn't in the Giants' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Flores will take a seat Tuesday after going 0-for-4 with an RBI and a walk during Monday's victory. David Villar will take over at first base and bat eighth.

  • Giants' Raymond Burgos: Sent back to minors

The Giants optioned Burgos to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Burgos' contract was selected from Triple-A on Monday, and he'll now head back to Sacramento after spending just 24 hours in the big leagues. He gave up an earned run on three hits and a walk over one inning in his MLB debut. The 25-year-old southpaw has turned in a 1.64 ERA and 0.82 WHIP through 22 frames in the minors, however, so a return to San Francisco later in the year is definitely possible. Mason Black was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Mason Black: Recalled from Sacramento

The Giants recalled Black from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Black was dispatched to Triple-A in May after allowing 14 earned runs in 14.1 innings through his first four MLB appearances. He has since performed even worse in the minors (11.93 ERA, 2.72 WHIP in 14.1 innings), but he should be a part of the Giants' pitching plan for Tuesday's game against the Cubs once opening pitcher Randy Rodriguez exits the contest. Raymond Burgos was optioned to Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Giants' Randy Rodriguez: Serving as opener Tuesday

Rodriguez will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Rodriguez has recorded at least five outs in 10 of his 18 appearances, so he should be capable of going at least a couple innings Tuesday. The Giants are opting for a second straight bullpen game after Erik Miller opened Monday's 5-4 win.

  • Giants' Heliot Ramos: Smacks three hits in win

Ramos went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk in Monday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.

Ramos went 1-for-22 over his previous five games before breaking out of the slump emphatically in Monday's contest. The outfielder started June hot and has claimed an everyday role in center field. Overall, he's slashing .301/.375/.534 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, 17 runs scored, one stolen base and eight doubles over 184 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Nick Ahmed: Gets aboard three times

Ahmed went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Monday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.

The homer was Ahmed's first of the season. The shortstop has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with two RBI and one stolen base over six contests since he returned from a wrist injury that sidelined him for a month. Ahmed is slashing .250/.291/.323 with 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and one steal through 136 plate appearances. He hasn't been strictly limited to a short-side platoon role since his return, but Brett Wisely is seeing a majority of the reps at shortstop and is also hitting a solid .262 in June.

  • Giants' Matt Chapman: Sparks comeback with homer

Chapman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two total runs scored in Monday's 5-4 win over the Cubs.

Chapman hasn't had a hitting streak longer than three games in June, and he's batting just .219 for the month. He's trending upward with multiple hits in two over his last three games, and he ended a 25-game homer drought with his fifth-inning blast Monday. The third baseman has a .233/.313/.394 slash line with nine long balls, 31 RBI, 50 runs scored, 20 doubles and six stolen bases through 76 contests this season.

  • Giants' Spencer Howard: Picks up win

Howard (1-1) allowed four hits and a walk while striking out eight over 4.2 scoreless innings to earn the win over the Cubs on Monday.

Howard again worked as a reliever, and he didn't enter the game until the fifth inning. He was able to lock things down for the Giants, enabling their comeback. Howard is now at a 3.80 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 21:9 K:BB over 21.1 innings across six appearances (two starts). San Francisco's rotation is an injury-riddled mess, and that's unlikely to change until July, so Howard will probably continue serving as a bulk reliever. He should be available to make an appearance in this weekend's series versus the Dodgers.

  • Giants' Blake Snell: Next rehab start coming Friday

Snell (groin) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday and make another rehab start for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Snell showed signs of rust during his first rehab appearance with Sacramento on Sunday, and as expected, he'll make at least one more start in the minors before the club considers activating him from the 15-day injured list. The southpaw fired 51 pitches Sunday and will continue to build toward a full workload in his upcoming appearance as he makes his way back from a left groin strain.

  • Giants' Keaton Winn: Dealing with nerve issue in elbow

Winn will be shut down for seven days after an MRI on Monday determined that his right elbow injury is nerve-related, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

While it's good news that Winn doesn't have any structural damage in his elbow, he's still going to require some extended down time, especially since he's on the 15-day injured list for a second time this season with an arm-related issue. Since he won't begin a throwing program until late June, it's probably safe to rule Winn out at least through the All-Star break.

  • Giants' Raymond Burgos: Selected by San Francisco

The Giants selected Burgos' contract from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.

The move corresponds with the Giants designating Trenton Brooks for assignment. In nine games with Sacramento this season, Burgos has a 1.64 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 23:2 K:BB over 22 innings. The 25-year-old southpaw will work out of the Giants' bullpen, likely as a multi-inning reliever.

  • Giants' Trenton Brooks: Exits 40-man roster

The Giants designated Brooks for assignment Monday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Raymond Burgos. Brooks was given some run at first base due to LaMonte Wade (hamstring) being out but went just 3-for-25 at the dish. He could clear waivers and remain in the organization.
