Miles has previously made four starts and has covered at least three innings out of the bullpen on seven other occasions, but he'll likely be in store for a lighter workload Wednesday. He hasn't recorded more than three outs in any of his last eight appearances and may not be stretched out enough to give the Blue Jays more than 2-to-3 innings. The Blue Jays will likely lean on a number of relievers to fill innings once Miles exits the game.

Louis Varland was deployed for the save chance in Monday's win against Boston, so manager John Schneider turned that responsibility over to Miles for Tuesday's tilt. Miles overcame a one-out double to retire the next two batters on groundouts to secure the first major-league save of his career. Varland is still the Blue Jays' go-to closer, especially with Jeff Hoffman now with the Twins, but Miles could be deployed in more high-leverage situations moving forward.

Taking over after opener Braydon Fisher had worked a scoreless first frame, Miles fired 34 of 46 pitches for strikes in a dominant performance while the Blue Jays built a 5-0 lead before he left the mound. Miles has been an outstanding find as a Rule 5 pick, and over 54 innings and 24 appearances (two starts) he's produced a 2.83 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 55:17 K:BB. Though the Rule 5 pick acquitted himself well in that capacity, the Blue Jays no longer have room for Miles in their five-man rotation with Dylan Cease (hamstring) and Max Scherzer (forearm) set to return from the 15-day injured list within the next few days.
