  • Yankees' Marcus Stroman: Says he won't pitch in bullpen

Stroman reported to Yankees camp Friday and told reporters "I won't pitch out of the bullpen," Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

While Stroman did not report with other pitchers and catchers earlier this week, he technically didn't have to report until Feb. 22, per the terms of MLB's Collective Bargaining Agreement. As far as Stroman's role goes, while he insisted that "I'm a starter," there wouldn't currently appear to be any room for him in the Yankees' rotation. That can change, of course, with an injury or a trade. Stroman held a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 154.2 regular-season innings in 2024, which covered 29 starts and one relief appearance.

  • Yankees' Eric Reyzelman: Released from hospital

Reyzelman (illness) was released from the hospital and visited with the Yankees at their spring training complex Thursday, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Reyzelman had to be taken to the hospital after suffering an allergic reaction Wednesday and stayed there overnight, but he was cleared to leave Thursday and should be fine. The 23-year-old reliever held a 1.61 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB over 22.1 innings with Double-A Somerset in 2024 and could potentially push to debut in 2025 if things go well.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Aiming for early-June return

Loaisiga (elbow) said Thursday that he hopes to make his season debut around late May or early June, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Shortly after Loaisiga signed a one-year deal to return to New York in December, pitching coach Matt Blake said he expected the right-hander to return closer to the beginning of May. Although it now seems the Yankees will have to wait a bit longer than that before activating Loaisiga, he's still likely to play a key role in their bullpen once healthy.

  • Yankees' Marcus Stroman: Yet to report to camp

Stroman has yet to report to spring training as of Thursday, and the Yankees haven't yet determined when he might be ready to participate in workouts, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

According to the terms of MLB's collective bargaining agreement, Stroman isn't required to take the field for spring training until Feb. 22, but his voluntary absence is noteworthy with all other pitchers and catchers having reported to camp. Stroman was still present in Tampa on Tuesday to take his pre-camp physical, and he's expected to continue working out on his own over the next few days before joining the Yankees. The 33-year-old's decision not to report to camp comes while his role entering the 2025 season is uncertain, after the Yankees signed Max Fried to an eight-year deal over the winter to give the team a projected five-man rotation that also includes Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil. Unless the Yankees head into Opening Day with a six-man rotation or lose one of the other five pitchers to an injury, Stroman could find himself in the bullpen after he turned in a 4.31 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 154.2 regular-season innings during his first season with New York in 2024.

  • Yankees' Ben Rice: Getting exposure to catcher in camp

Manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Rice will work out with the team's catchers in camp in addition to taking reps at first base, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Rice has nearly 1,000 innings of catching experience under his belt in the minors, but his defense behind the plate likely isn't strong enough for him to profile as anything more than a backup option at the position in the majors. Still, if Rice can acquit himself well in his catching opportunities during the spring, it could be his ticket to a spot on the Opening Day roster, as the Yankees already have Paul Goldschmidt and Giancarlo Stanton locked in as regulars at first base and designated hitter, respectively. Meanwhile, Austin Wells appears secure as the Yankees' No. 1 catcher, but J.C. Escarra and Jesus Rodriguez -- neither of whom has made their MLB debut -- are the only other backstops on the 40-man roster. Rice hit just .171 and struck out in 27 percent of his plate appearances in his first taste of the majors last season, but he flashed power (seven home runs, six doubles) and drew walks at an 11.6 percent rate.

  • Yankees' Eric Reyzelman: Suffers medical emergency

Reyzelman was taken to a Tampa-area hospital Wednesday after suffering an allergic reaction prior to a workout, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

The Yankees relay that Reyzelman is expected to remain hospitalized overnight while he receives treatment and doctors presumably put him through further tests. A 23-year-old right-handed reliever, Reyzelman was a standout performer at Double-A Somerset in 2024, submitting a 1.61 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 36:13 K:BB over 22.1 innings.

  • Yankees' JT Brubaker: Completes live BP

Brubaker (oblique) tossed a live batting practice session Wednesday, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Brubaker appears to be facing no restrictions to open spring training, suggesting that he's made a full recovery from his April 2023 Tommy John surgery, as well as the oblique strain he suffered in mid-July that ended up keeping him on the Yankees' 60-day injured list all season. Though the right-hander has worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his career, a long-relief role may represent Brubaker's clearest path to a spot on the Yankees' Opening Day roster. Brubaker doesn't have any minor-league options remaining, so the Yankees would have to designate him for assignment if he's unable to secure a roster spot coming out of spring training.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Entering camp healthy

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that LeMahieu is healthy entering spring training, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

The 36-year-old finished last season on the injured list due to a hip impingement, which sidelined him for the final weeks of the regular season and for the entirety of the Yankees' run to the World Series. LeMahieu was limited to 67 regular-season games in 2024 and has battled a plethora of injuries the past few seasons, culminating in a career-worst .528 OPS in 2024. It appears he'll get the chance to be a major contributor at third base this season, but he may need a strong showing in spring training in order to secure the starting role.

  • Yankees' Owen White: Removed from 40-man roster

The Yankees designated White for assignment Tuesday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Brent Headrick, who was claimed off waivers. White was a waiver claim himself just last week and will now go through the waivers process again.

  • Yankees' Brent Headrick: Claimed by NYY

The Yankees claimed Headrick off waivers from the Twins on Tuesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Headrick, 27, has collected a 5.97 ERA and 35:12 K:BB over 28.2 innings out of the Twins' bullpen across the last two regular seasons. The left-handed reliever probably won't make the Yankees' Opening Day roster, but he has minor-league options remaining.

  • Yankees' Clayton Beeter: Overcoming shoulder issue

Beeter has been dealing with a right shoulder injury but has resumed throwing bullpen sessions, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

Beeter missed time with a shoulder injury last season in the minors, too, but the Yankees are hopeful the righty is close to putting the issue in the rearview mirror. That said, it might be a bit before Beeter is cleared to appear in Grapefruit League games. The 26-year-old has primarily been a starter in the minors but is under consideration for an Opening Day bullpen role.

  • Yankees' Jake Cousins: Nursing forearm strain

Cousins is currently shut down due to a right forearm strain, Brendan Kuty of The Athletic reports.

It's possible the reliever will be ready to resume a throwing program next week or the following week, per Yankees manager Aaron Boone. However, the injury has Cousins' availability for Opening Day in question. Cousins was excellent in 37 regular-season appearances for the Yankees last season, holding a 2.37 ERA and 53:20 K:BB across 38 innings. If healthy, he could see some high-leverage relief work.

  • Yankees' Tyler Matzek: Donning pinstripes

Matzek agreed to a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Matzek reportedly impressed at a recent showcase, enticing the Yankees to extend him a contract. The veteran southpaw struggled in 2024 while with Atlanta, posting a 9.90 ERA with 10 strikeouts over 10 innings at the big-league level, but he's success in the past in the majors, having turned in sub-4.00 ERAs in three straight seasons from 2020 through 2022. His minor-league deal presumably includes an invitation to MLB spring training that will allow him to compete for a spot in New York's Opening Day bullpen.

  • Yankees' Jayvien Sandridge: Inks minor-league deal

Sandridge signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Sunday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training.

The left-hander spent last season in the Padres organization and had a 4.28 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 95:49 K:BB over 61 innings between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. Sandridge has yet to see action in the majors and should serve as organizational bullpen depth for the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Ronaldo Hernandez: Lands minor-league deal

Hernandez signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Sunday that includes an invite to big-league spring training.

The 27-year-old spent last season at Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks' system, where he played in 63 games and had a .311/.357/.507 slash line with 11 home runs. Hernandez has yet to make his MLB debut and is likely to open the 2025 campaign at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as organizational depth.

  • Yankees' Allan Winans: Outrighted by NYY

Winans cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Winans was let go by the Yankees on Wednesday, but he will remain with the organization after clearing waivers. He was claimed off waivers by the Yankees in late January after spending the last two seasons in Atlanta. Winans spent most of the 2024 regular season with Triple-A Gwinnett and posted a 7-5 record across 24 outings (16 starts) with a 3.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 100:37 K:BB over 114.2 innings.
