Top Flames News

  • Flames' Andrew Basha: Trio of assists in WHL win

Basha logged three assists in WHL Medicine Hat's 5-2 win over Calgary in Game 3 on Monday.

Basha is up to three goals and 10 helpers over eight playoff contests so far. His work Monday helped put Medicine Hat on the verge of sweeping its second-round playoff series. Basha will call Calgary home in 2026-27 when he heads to the AHL full-time, but he's looking to break that city's junior-hockey heart in Wednesday's Game 4.

  • Flames' Aydar Suniev: Logs first NHL point

Suniev registered an assist in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

Suniev is getting an NHL opportunity late in the season to show what he can do at a higher level. This was his first point in four games for the Flames this season, and it was also his first career point. He's added four shots on net and a plus-1 rating. Suniev will likely benefit from more time with AHL Calgary in 2026-27, though he could earn an NHL job with a strong showing in training camp.

  • Flames' Mikael Backlund: Tallies in Sunday's win

Backlund scored a goal on two shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

Backlund ended a nine-game goal drought with his third-period marker. The 37-year-old has generally had a good season, but his offense hasn't been able to flourish lately since he's taken on top-line duties following the Flames' deadline trade of Nazem Kadri to the Avalanche. Backlund is at 17 goals, 42 points, 184 shots on net and a plus-8 rating over 80 appearances this year, his most productive campaign in the last three seasons.

  • Flames' Connor Zary: Deposits goal Sunday

Zary scored a goal on three shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

This was Zary's first point in six games since he missed five contests due to an upper-body injury to close out March. The 24-year-old forward has struggled throughout the campaign, and that's left him in a bottom-six role late in the year. He's at 12 goals, 25 points, 108 shots on net and a minus-9 rating across 73 appearances.

  • Flames' Matthew Coronato: Capitalizes on mistake

Coronato scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

Coronato has a point in five straight contests. He got some good fortune Sunday, opening the scoring on a wraparound tuck after Vitek Vanecek misplayed a dump-in. Coronato has 14 points over his last 14 outings and is up to 18 goals, 44 points, 195 shots on net, 32 PIM and a minus-29 rating over 79 appearances. While he's a little behind last year's 24-goal, 47-point pace, he hasn't had a lot of help -- his numbers should improve as the Flames' young players grow into full-time NHL options.

  • Flames' Brayden Pachal: Three-point stunner Sunday

Pachal scored a goal, dished two assists and went plus-2 in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

Pachal had just four assists in 36 games for the whole season prior to this contest. He added helpers on goals by Matthew Coronato and Mikael Backlund before capping the Flames' scoring on a goal midway through the third period. Pachal has played in just five of the last 15 games for the Flames, but he could finish the year in a third-pairing role since injuries have started to stack up on the blue line. He's at seven points, 28 shots on net, 88 hits, 35 blocked shots, 47 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 37 appearances.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Strong showing in win

Wolf stopped 28 of 29 shots in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mammoth.

Wolf snapped a three-game slide with this performance, which was his sharpest in a while. The 24-year-old hasn't finished strong, allowing at least four goals in seven of his last 13 appearances, but he has a 6-6-0 record in that span. For the season, Wolf is up to 23-28-3 with a 3.03 GAA and an .897 save percentage across 56 appearances. The Flames' netminder is a risky fantasy option should he start Tuesday versus the Avalanche.

  • Flames' Kevin Bahl: Not playing against Utah

Bahl (lower body) isn't in the lineup for Sunday's home contest versus the Mammoth, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Bahl is set to miss his third straight game. He returned to Calgary to be evaluated after getting injured during the team's road trip Tuesday in Dallas, but his status for the remainder of the season has yet to be revealed. The Flames' next game is at home Tuesday against the Avalanche.

  • Flames' Dustin Wolf: Tending twine against Utah

Wolf will start Sunday's home game against the Mammoth, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Wolf has struggled in recent outings, going 0-3-0 with a 5.71 GAA and .867 save percentage over his last three starts. However, he was successful in a home start against Utah on Dec. 6, turning aside all 28 shots he faced in a 2-0 victory.

  • Flames' Matvei Gridin: Unavailable for Sunday's matchup

Gridin has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Utah due to an illness.

Gridin hasn't missed a game since early March, but he'll be unavailable Sunday due to his illness. He's appeared in 22 games since the Olympic break, recording three goals, 10 assists, 17 blocked shots, four hits and two PIM while averaging 15:34 of ice time. It's not yet clear when he'll be back in action, but his next opportunity to suit up will be Tuesday against the Avalanche.

  • Flames' Yan Kuznetsov: Not an option Sunday

Kuznetsov will be sidelined against the Mammoth on Sunday due to an upper-body injury and is day-to-day.

Kuznetsov didn't play in the final 10 minutes of Saturday's game in Seattle due to his injury, according to Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan. If Kevin Bahl (lower body) doesn't suit up Sunday, Brayden Pachal will most likely draw into the lineup in a bottom-four capacity. The Flames have two more games remaining in their season following Sunday's matchup against Utah.

  • Flames' Hunter Brzustewicz: Nets lone goal in loss

Brzustewicz scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Kraken.

This was his second goal of the season. Brzustewicz opened the scoring 1:11 into the second period, but the Kraken answered less than a minute later and never looked back. Brzustewicz has gotten to play regularly down the stretch, and that includes some power-play time on the second unit in addition to top-four minutes at even strength. The 21-year-old blueliner is at two goals, seven points, 32 shots on net, 22 hits, 16 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over 31 appearances this season.

  • Flames' Devin Cooley: Loses to Kraken

Cooley stopped 17 of 20 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Kraken. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.

Cooley's been a strong backup for much of the season, but he's started to falter. He's allowed at least three goals in six straight outings, going 2-1-2 in that span. For the season, he's down to 10-10-6 with a 2.69 GAA and a .909 save percentage over 31 appearances. Dustin Wolf will likely get the nod Sunday versus the Mammoth to kick off the Flames' final homestand of the season.

  • Flames' Ryan Strome: Set to play Saturday

Strome (illness) is good to play Saturday versus Seattle, per Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Strome has eight goals and 20 points in 49 outings between Calgary and Anaheim in 2025-26. He missed Thursday's 3-1 loss to Colorado due to illness, but he will return to a third-line role alongside Blake Coleman and Aydar Suniev against the Kraken on Saturday.

  • Flames' Devin Cooley: Slated to face Seattle

Cooley is expected to start on the road against Seattle on Saturday, per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Cooley has allowed at least three goals in each of his past five outings. He's 10-9-6 with a 2.68 GAA and a .911 save percentage in 30 appearances with Calgary this season. While Seattle is coming off a 4-3 shootout victory over Vegas on Thursday, the Kraken are still just 4-12-2 in their past 18 matches with 2.56 goals per game during that span.

... See More ... See Less
  • Flames' Blake Coleman: Returns to action Saturday

Coleman (personal) will play in Saturday's road clash against the Kraken, per Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan.

Coleman will return to the lineup after missing Thursday's 3-1 loss to Colorado for the birth of his son. The 34-year-old Coleman has 19 goals, 33 points, 166 shots on net, 148 hits and 44 blocked shots across 65 games this season. He'll likely return to the Flames' top line for Saturday's clash and holds solid streaming value against Seattle's Niklas Kokko, who is making his first NHL start.

  • Flames' Clark Bishop: Posts three points in AHL loss

Bishop scored twice and added an assist in AHL Calgary's 5-4 loss to Abbotsford on Friday.

Bishop has been a fine AHL veteran this season, picking up 25 points over 69 appearances. He's generated seven goals and two assists over his last 12 outings. Bishop is doing well to finish the campaign but probably won't get an NHL call-up this late in the year.
