Oliver Wahlstrom: Released from tryout
Wahlstrom was released from his professional tryout agreement with the Sharks on Tuesday.
Wahlstrom will now link up with AHL San Jose, as he's signed to a minor-league deal for the 2025-26 season. The No. 11 overall selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft will look to put together a strong campaign with the Barracuda in an effort to be a potential call-up if the Sharks need his services due to injuries throughout the year. That said, San Jose would need to ink him to at least a two-way contract before he would be eligible to play in the NHL. Wahlstrom accumulated nine goals and 15 points over 19 regular-season outings with AHL Providence in 2024-25.

He has produced three goals, six points, 50 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and 24 hits across 39 appearances between the Bruins and Islanders this season. Wahlstrom will probably occupy a bottom-six role in Saturday's matchup, but it's unclear who he will replace in the lineup.

Wahlstrom was scratched for the previous two games, but Trent Frederic's (illness) absence Monday opened a spot in the lineup. Wahlstrom is at six points, 49 shots on net, 22 hits, 28 blocked shots, 26 PIM and a minus-6 rating over 38 appearances between the Bruins and the Islanders this season.

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Scores in win Saturday
Wahlstrom scored a goal on three shots in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Hurricanes.
Wahlstrom has picked up two points over his last three games. The 24-year-old has been in the lineup regularly since the start of November, but he has little to show for it on offense while filling a bottom-six role. Overall, he's at four points, 28 shots on net, 16 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 24 appearances. Stronger play in the short term will help Wahlstrom stay in the lineup once the Islanders get Mathew Barzal (upper body) and Anthony Duclair (lower body) back from injury.

It's been enough to keep him in the lineup for seven straight games as he fends off a playing-time challenge from Hudson Fasching. Wahlstrom has added 13 shots on net, seven PIM and a minus-5 rating over 13 appearances this season. Fantasy managers can look elsewhere for depth scoring since he is averaging just 9:45 of ice time.

Islanders' Oliver Wahlstrom: Signs one-year contract
Wahlstrom penned a one-year contract with the Islanders on Thursday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Wahlstrom and the Islanders avoided arbitration, agreeing to the one-year deal. Wahlstrom has been a huge disappointment since he was drafted 11th overall in 2018. He managed to score just a pair of goals and six points in 32 regular-season games in 2023-24, as he was a healthy scratch in 24 consecutive games, before seeing action in the regular-season finale versus Pittsburgh. Wahlstrom is expected to see bottom-six minutes in 2024-25, which will hamper his fantasy value.
