Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Set to start against Winnipeg
Luukkonen is slated to serve as the starting goaltender for Thursday's home game against the Jets, Michael Augello of The Hockey News reports.
Luukkonen will be between the pipes for the fourth time in the Sabres' last five games, but he's largely struggled over his last three outings, going 0-2-1 with a 3.34 GAA and .892 save percentage. Although the Jets have cooled off from their hot start to the season, they're still tied for fourth in the league with 3.65 goals per game.

Sabres' Sam Lafferty: Added to injured reserve
Lafferty was placed on injured reserve Thursday, per the NHL media site.
Lafferty was already considered week-to-week, so this news doesn't alter his timetable. He has a goal, 14 PIM and 27 hits in 22 outings in 2024-25. When healthy, Lafferty might draw back onto the fourth line, which would likely result in Nicolas Aube-Kubel moving to the press box.

Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Ruled out Thursday
Dahlin (back) will not be an option against the Jets on Thursday but isn't expected out long-term after head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters, "It should be short-term, but you never know."
Dahlin will be replaced in the lineup by Dennis Gilbert, but it's Jacob Bryson who should see the biggest uptick in ice time. On the top power-play unit, Alex Tuch will join up with the No. 1 group in Dahlin's stead. For his part, the 24-year-old Dahlin was stuck in a four-game pointless streak prior to getting hurt and will no have to wait a bit before getting a chance to end his slump.

Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Close to returning
Samuelsson (lower body) is getting close to a return but will require a few more practices before he can return to the lineup, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports Thursday.
Samuelsson has missed the last nine games after he was slew-footed by the Canadiens' Juraj Slafkovsky on Nov. 11. Samuelsson has one goal over 13 appearances this season.

Sabres' Ryan Johnson: Called up by Buffalo
Johnson was recalled by the Sabres on Thursday, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Johnson made 41 appearances for Buffalo last year, tallying seven assists, 39 blocked shots and eight hits while averaging 13:52 of ice time. He was sent to AHL Rochester ahead of the 2024-25 regular season but will join the NHL club after Rasmus Dahlin (back) exited Tuesday's game against the Avalanche. Johnson and Dennis Gilbert are candidates to enter the lineup if Dahlin is forced to miss time.

Sabres' Jason Zucker: Puts up helper in loss
Zucker notched an assist and two shots on goal in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Zucker snapped a four-game point drought in this contest. The 32-year-old winger played on the top line and led the Sabres' forwards in ice time (20:54). Zucker is up to 15 points (six on the power play), 37 shots on net, 27 PIM, 15 hits and a plus-3 rating over 25 appearances. He's put together a decent start to the campaign, and if he sticks on the top line, he's worth a speculative add in most fantasy formats.

Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Nets goal in loss
Malenstyn scored a goal on two shots and added four hits in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Malenstyn's tally at 11:49 of the first period chased Alexandar Georgiev from the game. The goal snapped a run of 10 contests without a point for Malenstyn, who remains locked in as a fourth-liner for the Sabres. The 26-year-old forward is up to four points, 22 shots on net, 57 hits, 22 blocked shots and a minus-3 rating over 25 outings this season.

Sabres' John-Jason Peterka: Snaps slump in loss
Peterka scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Peterka gave the Sabres a 3-0 lead just 6:50 into the game. It snapped a six-game dry spell for the winger, who had posted a six-game point streak prior to his slump. He's had some trouble generating offense from the second line, though he's still seeing significant usage at even strength and on the power play. Peterka has eight goals, nine helpers, 49 shots on net and a minus-5 rating through 23 outings this season.

Sabres' Tage Thompson: Lights lamp twice in loss
Thompson scored two goals on a team-high five shots on net in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
The 27-year-old center gave Buffalo a 2-0 lead early in the first period, his first points in four games since returning from a lower-body injury. After a disappointing 2023-24 campaign, Thompson has been back in form this season when he's been healthy, collecting 13 goals and 20 points in 20 contests.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: Late collapse in stunning loss
Luukkonen turned aside 36 shots in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Avalanche.
The Sabres seemed to have the game in the bag when they jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than 12 minutes into the first period, but Buffalo completely collapsed in the third, getting outshot 17-7. Luukkonen tried desperately to stem the tide, but all four Colorado goals in the final frame came either on rebounds his defense couldn't clear, or on deflections. Luukkonen is 0-2-1 over his last three starts, but since the beginning of November, he's delivered a stellar 2.25 GAA and .919 save percentage in 10 outings.

Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Dealing with back spasms
Dahlin left Tuesday's game versus the Avalanche due to back spasms, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports.
Dahlin's injury is related to an issue he dealt with during training camp. It's unclear if he'll be ready to go for Thursday's game against the Jets. If not, Dennis Gilbert could check into the lineup, while Owen Power and Bowen Byram would likely take on extra minutes.

Sabres' Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen: In goal Tuesday
Luukkonen will start in goal at home Tuesday versus the Avalanche, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.
Luukkonen has allowed seven goals over his last four outings, going 2-1-1 in that span. He'll have a moderately tough challenge Tuesday against an Avalanche team that has scored 17 times over its last six games.

Sabres' Sam Lafferty: Deemed week-to-week
Lafferty (lower body) didn't practice Monday and is week-to-week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Lafferty sat out Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Islanders after being injured in Friday's 4-3 overtime defeat versus Vancouver. He has earned one goal, 13 shots on net and 27 hits through 22 appearances this season. During Lafferty's absence, Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Tyson Kozak could see playing time in the bottom six.

Sabres' Nicolas Aube-Kubel: Draws in, can't contribute in loss
Aube-Kubel returned to the lineup Saturday in a 3-0 loss to the Islanders, but he recorded just three shots on goal and three hits over 11:23 of ice time.
Aube-Kubel filled in for Sam Lafferty (lower body) in this contest. Given the Sabres produced no goals, lineup changes could be coming for Tuesday versus the Avalanche. Aube-Kubel played in just six of 14 contests in November and remains in search of his first point -- he's been held scoreless with seven shots on net, 11 hits and six PIM over eight appearances so far. When he plays, he's typically stuck in a fourth-line role.

Sabres' James Reimer: Third loss of season
Reimer stopped 17 of 19 shots in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Islanders. The third goal was an empty-netter with eight seconds left in the third period.
Reimer started in the second leg of a back-to-back set, but he didn't perform at his best and had to settle for another defeat. He sits at 1-3-0 in four appearances this season. However, it's worth noting Reimer has posted a save percentage of at least .890 in three of four appearances. Still, Reimer will serve as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen's backup, which limits his upside considerably.

Sabres' Connor Clifton: Chips in with assist
Clifton logged an assist, four hits and two blocked shots in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Canucks.
Clifton snapped an eight-game point drought with the helper. He's seen steady minutes on the third pairing this season, though his spot could be challenged once Mattias Samuelsson (lower body) is activated from injured reserve. Clifton has four helpers, 19 shots on net, 19 PIM, 65 hits and 37 blocked shots over 22 contests, so his appeal in fantasy is limited to formats with an emphasis on non-scoring production.
