  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Lands on IL due to blister

The Cubs placed Cabrera (finger) on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

After Cabrera exited his most recent start Wednesday against the Brewers due to a blister on his right middle finger, the Cubs had been viewing him as day-to-day and planned to have him throw a bullpen session Sunday before determining whether he would be ready to make his next turn through the rotation. The 28-year-old apparently wasn't as sharp in the side session as the Cubs would have hoped, prompting the team to deactivate him. The Cubs recalled Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move and will likely have him start or work in bulk relief when Cabrera's turn comes up Tuesday in Pittsburgh.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Leaves game with blister

Cabrera was removed from Wednesday's game against the Brewers with a blister on his right middle finger, Jared Wyllys of AllCHGO.com reports.

After allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two batters through three frames, Cabrera was taken out of Wednesday's contest following his first pitch of the fourth inning. It's unknown whether the 28-year-old righty will be ready to take the mound in time for his next turn through the rotation, but the Cubs will monitor the situation closely over the next several days.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Takes no-decision Friday

Cabrera didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 10-5 victory over the White Sox, giving up three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out two batters in 4.2 innings.

The Cubs' offense gave Cabrera a 4-1 lead to work with heading into the fifth inning, but the right-hander walked the first two batters he faced, both of whom eventually came around to score. He was taken out of the game after issuing his third free pass of the inning to Sam Antonacci, giving Cabrera his first start of the season with less than five innings pitched. Since starting the campaign with 11.2 consecutive shutout innings, the 28-year-old has surrendered at least three earned runs in each of his last seven starts and owns a 5.26 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in that span. His next chance to right the ship is expected to come at home against the Brewers.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Takes loss Saturday

Cabrera (3-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday against the Rangers after allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out six.

This was Cabrera's worst outing of the season, and he's clearly trending in the wrong direction after suffering his first defeat of 2026. The right-hander began the season with 11.2 scoreless frames in his first two starts, but he's allowed at least three earned runs in each of his last six appearances. Cabrera, who gave up multiple homers Saturday for the third time in his last four starts, now has a 3.88 ERA across 46.1 innings this year. He lines up to make his next start against the crosstown White Sox.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Fans eight in quality start

Cabrera didn't factor into the decision Monday against the Reds, allowing three runs on nine hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out eight.

Despite serving up a pair of homers Monday, the 28-year-old right-hander continues to provide the Cubs with length on a steady basis. Not only did Cabrera fan a season-high eight, but he worked at least five innings in his seventh straight start to open the year. While he has given up at least six hits and three runs in five consecutive outings, Cabrera will still take a solid 3.27 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 37:14 K:BB over 41.1 frames into his next scheduled appearance in Texas.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Moves to 3-0

Cabrera (3-0) earned the win over San Diego on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven batters over 5.2 innings.

Cabrera nearly notched a quality start, but he was pulled with two outs in the sixth inning, one batter after he gave up a run-scoring single. Nonetheless, the right-hander impressed with a whopping 20 whiffs while setting a season high with seven punchouts. Cabrera has given up exactly three earned runs in four straight starts, and he's completed at least five frames in each of those outings. In his first year with Chicago, Cabrera has proven to be an impactful addition to the rotation, posting a 3.06 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB through 35.1 innings while winning three of his six starts without yet taking a loss.

  • Cubs' Edward Cabrera: Goes seven innings vs. Phillies

Cabrera didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Phillies, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits and no walks. He struck out five.

Philadelphia's three-run seventh inning put a damper on what was otherwise an excellent start from Cabrera. The right-hander didn't walk a batter for the first time in a start this season while matching a season high with five strikeouts. Cabrera's ERA now sits at 2.73 with a 1.18 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB across five outings (29.2 innings). He's currently scheduled to face the Padres on the road his next time out.
