That's back-to-back quality starts for Painter, though the Phillies' offense didn't really come alive until the ninth inning. The right-hander allowed 12 runs over 27.1 innings across his five starts in August, adding a 26:10 K:BB. An ugly June and subsequent stint at Triple-A did some damage to his overall numbers, but he's been decent since returning to the majors at the end of July. On the year, Painter has a 5.95 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 85:37 K:BB through 98.1 innings over 20 games (18 starts). He's projected to make his next start in Arizona.

It continued a solid stretch for the rookie since returning to the rotation, as he's posted a 3.62 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB over five starts since July 31. Painter was authoring the finest start of his young career before starting to show signs of fatigue, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning. It was still an encouraging performance despite St. Louis' two-run sixth frame, as the right-hander has now yielded two runs or fewer in three straight starts since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Painter will be looking to build on Monday's showing over the weekend in Minnesota, where he'll bring a 6.27 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 69:31 K:BB over 80.1 innings for the Phillies.

Painter was forced out of his most recent start in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals after four innings due to left hamstring tightness, but his early exit was deemed precautionary. The young right-hander cleared up any concern about his health by completing a bullpen session Saturday without issue. He's not expected to face any restrictions Monday as he takes the hill for the first of what will likely be two starts during the upcoming week. The second half of the double dip is expected to come Sunday, when he'll tentatively line up to start the Phillies' series finale in Minnesota.

Painter had to be lifted from Wednesday's start versus the Nationals after four innings when his left hamstring tightened up on him. His removal was seen as a precaution, however, and the rookie hurler won't miss a turn as long as he gets through his normal between-starts bullpen session without any hiccups.

Painter said following Wednesday's 10-4 loss to to the Nationals in 11 innings that he's not worried about missing time due to the left hamstring injury that forced him out of the game after four innings, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. "I felt like I could have gone out there and still competed. [The coaching staff] felt like they didn't want to risk that," Painter said.
Making a second straight turn through the Philadelphia rotation, Painter struck out four batters and limited the Nationals to one earned run on three hits and one walk in four innings prior to his departure. Painter appeared to first tweak the hamstring in the first inning when he slipped while delivering a 3-2 pitch to Daylen Lile, but the right-hander said the hamstring didn't tighten up on him until the fourth. The Phillies have no plans to send Painter in for imaging, and so long as he's able to complete a bullpen session over the weekend without issue, he'll tentatively line up to make his next start Monday in St. Louis.

Painter will appear in Friday's series opener against Baltimore in some fashion. Painter will be making his first appearance with the big-league club since June 17. It's unclear whether it will be a traditional start or some other arrangement, but the 23-year-old will get another chance in the majors. Painter was sent down to Triple-A in mid-June after logging a 7.06 ERA in 65 innings for the Phillies. He's pitched well in four of five outings at Lehigh Valley though, and he's allowed three runs with a 14:1 K:BB across 11 frames in his last two starts.
