Cardinals' Dustin May: Ready to go for next start
May (back) is slated to start Thursday's series finale in Atlanta.
May didn't end up pitching this past week after experiencing back tightness coming out of his previous start June 21 in Kansas City, but the Cardinals are already considering him ready to go the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Thursday. Before getting knocked around for six runs over two innings in his outing against Kansas City, May had been St. Louis' top-performing starter for more than two months. In his preceding 12 starts from April 10 through June 15, May went 5-4 with a 2.54 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 68:18 K:BB across 74.1 innings.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Next start getting skipped
The Cardinals will skip May's turn in the rotation Saturday against Miami while he manages back tightness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
May has been dealing with lower-back tightness since tossing a complete-game shutout against the Padres on June 15, which may have played a factor in him getting roughed up for six-runs in a two-inning start versus Kansas City on Sunday. Delaying the 28-year-old's next appearance will give him extra time to heal and move Andre Pallante up a day to start Saturday on four days' rest.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Knocked around in short start
May did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Royals, allowing six runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two over two innings.
May endured his shortest outing of the season Sunday, tossing 44 pitches to complete two innings before being lifted. The right-hander allowed two runs in the first inning and further unraveled in the second, serving up a pair of two-run homers to Nick Loftin and Jac Caglianone. Despite the early damage, May surprisingly exited with the lead thanks to St. Louis erupting for nine runs over the first two innings. The outing was a stark contrast from his recent form, as he entered Sunday coming off back-to-back scoreless starts, including a one-hit shutout in his previous appearance. May will take a 4.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:22 K:BB to face Miami at home in his next scheduled start.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Tosses one-hit shutout
May (5-6) earned the win Monday against the Padres, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out nine over a complete-game shutout.
May delivered arguably the best start of his career Monday, firing his first complete game in 71 major-league starts. The right-hander flirted with perfection into the seventh inning before Fernando Tatis drew a leadoff walk, and a few batters later Manny Machado lined a single to break up the no-hit bid. Despite that, May retired the final seven batters he faced to complete the shutout. The 28-year-old has now recorded nine strikeouts in three of his last four starts and appears to be finding another gear as the season progresses. He owns a 3.75 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 75:21 K:BB across 81.2 innings and is scheduled to face Kansas City on the road in his next outing.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Blanks Mets in stellar win
May (4-6) earned the win Tuesday against the Mets, tossing six scoreless innings on four hits and one walk while striking out six.
May was at his best Tuesday, working a season-high 101 pitches with 70 going for strikes and racking up an impressive 31 called and swinging strikes. It was the right-hander's first scoreless start of 2026, and he's now recorded a quality start in eight of his last 11 outings. May now owns a 4.21 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 66:20 K:BB through 72.2 innings and lines up for a home outing against San Diego next.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Racks up nine Ks vs. Rangers
May did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Rangers, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine over 5.2 innings.
After carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning in his last start, May came out dominant again Tuesday -- piling up eight strikeouts through the first four innings. The right-hander was one out away from another quality start before Alejandro Osuna delivered a go-ahead RBI knock in the sixth inning, forcing May's exit. May has still not recorded a win since April 21 and now owns a 4.59 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 60:19 K:BB across 66.2 innings. He's slated to face the Mets in his next start.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Loses no-hitter, game Wednesday
May (3-6) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits over seven-plus innings as the Cardinals fell 2-1 to the Brewers. He struck out nine without walking a batter.
The right-hander took a no-hitter into the eighth inning until Garrett Mitchell spoiled it with a leadoff double, but after Luis Rengifo followed with a bunt single, May got the hook and had to watch as both runners came around to score. May had to settle for his seventh quality start of the year and a season high in strikeouts, but he remains winless over his last six outings. Since a rough couple starts to begin 2026, he's posted a 3.02 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 44:14 K:BB over his last 53.2 innings. He'll try to get back in the win column in his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Rangers.

Cardinals' Dustin May: Falls to Pittsburgh
May (3-5) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out seven.
May held Pittsburgh to two runs through his first five innings but ran into trouble in the sixth, when four straight Pirates reached safely with one out, ultimately resulting in two more runs. Prior to Thursday, May had delivered quality starts in four straight outings. His ERA now sits at an even 5.00 with a 1.43 WHIP and 42:17 K:BB across 54 innings. The right-hander is currently lined up to face the Brewers on the road his next time out.
