Yankees' Max Fried: Earns win, fans seven Tuesday
Fried (5-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Twins after allowing one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings. He did not issue a walk.
Fried delivered his longest outing since April 22, though he needed only 88 pitches (58 strikes) to complete seven frames. Minnesota's lone run came on Emmanuel Rodriguez's RBI single in the second, and Fried immediately ended the threat by picking Rodriguez off first. Fried didn't issue a walk for the first time since April 11 and retired 15 of the final 18 hitters he faced. The victory was Fried's first since April 27, and he lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.63 with this outing. Fried is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Rays next week.

Yankees' Max Fried: Fans seven in short outing
Fried allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings in a no-decision against Colorado on Thursday.
Fried was effective but not efficient at recording outs, as the Rockies managed only four baserunners against him (on one hit, two walks and an error). The left-hander racked up a strong 12 whiffs and seven punchouts, but that helped drive up his pitch count -- Fried needed 80 pitches to retire just 10 batters. The veteran hurler spent time on the IL due to an elbow injury in August and hasn't yet worked back up to a full workload, as he's thrown 63, 72 and 80 pitches, respectively, in his first three starts back. That's throttling his ability to go deep into games for now, but Fried may have a longer leash his next time out, which is slated to be a road game in Minnesota.

Yankees' Max Fried: Nearly gets quality start
Fried allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Friday.
Fried got up to 72 pitches (51 strikes), and his efficiency in this contest nearly earned him a quality start. He worked in tandem with Will Warren, who threw 2.1 scoreless and hitless innings in relief. Fried's workload is nearly high enough to trust him to regularly contend for wins over the rest of the season. He's at a 2.73 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 87:29 K:BB through 95.2 innings this year. The star southpaw is projected to make his next start at home in a favorable matchup versus the Rockies.

Yankees' Max Fried: Expected to be piggybacked Friday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said earlier this week that Fried would be piggybacked by Will Warren during Friday's game in San Diego, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports.
Assuming Boone's plan hasn't changed since he first mentioned the piggyback plan Tuesday, Fried will operate with a restricted workload Friday that could make it difficult for him to hit the five innings required to qualify for a win. After missing time with a left elbow bone bruise, Fried returned from the 15-day injured list last Saturday and started the second game of a doubleheader versus the Red Sox, giving up one run while striking out four batters over 3.2 innings and 63 pitches.

Yankees' Max Fried: Logs 3.2 frames in return
Fried completed 3.2 innings in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Boston, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out four batters in a no-decision.
Fried returned from a minimum-length stay on the IL due to a left elbow bone bruise. He served up a solo homer to Nick Sogard in the third inning but otherwise kept the Red Sox out of the scoring column. Fried was clearly on a pitch count following the injury, as he struck out the final two batters he faced but was pulled with two outs in the fourth inning at just 63 pitches. Still, it was a positive return for the veteran lefty, as he helped New York salvage a split of the twin bill. Fried is lined up to make his next start on the road in San Diego, and he'll presumably have some leash to pitch deeper into that contest.

Yankees' Max Fried: Activated ahead of start
The Yankees reinstated Fried (elbow) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his start in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against Boston.
Fried landed on the injured list Aug. 17 with a bone bruise in his left elbow but is now set to return to action after a minimum-length absence. He never appeared in a rehab game during his time on the IL but threw four simulated innings in a live batting practice session Monday, so the Yankees may not have too harsh of a restriction, if any, placed on him during his first start back. Justin Topa was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

Yankees' Max Fried: Confirmed to return Saturday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirmed Friday that Fried (elbow) will return to the rotation during Saturday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Whether he'll start the first game or second game hasn't been determined, but Fried is set to rejoin the active roster after missing the minimum 15 days due to a bone bruise in his elbow. The left-hander didn't make a rehab start, instead opting for a four-inning live batting practice session Monday. However, since Fried threw 88 pitches in a start just two weeks ago, he should be prepared for a relatively normal workload Saturday.

Yankees' Max Fried: Could be ready to return Saturday
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Fried (elbow) threw a four-inning live batting practice session Monday and could be available to return from the 15-day injured list to make a start during Saturday's doubleheader versus the Red Sox, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Fried landed on the IL one week ago due to a recurrence of the left elbow bone bruise that caused him to miss more than two months of action earlier this season. However, the injury isn't considered as serious this time around, as the left-hander appears poised to skip a rehab assignment and re-enter the Yankees rotation Saturday with a start against his team's rival. He'll throw another bullpen session in the next day or two before the Yankees decide on his next step.

Yankees' Max Fried: Set for bullpen session Saturday
Fried (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports.
Fried was placed on the injured list earlier this week due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. It's the same injury he dealt with earlier this season, but Fried said it's not as severe this time, and he needs to clean up his mechanics to avoid re-injury. Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Fried's stay on the 15-day IL could be around the minimum.

Yankees' Max Fried: Minimum IL stint possible
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Fried (elbow) could return from the injured list immediately after he completes the required 15-day stay, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Fried landed on the 15-day IL on Monday with a left elbow bone bruise, which is the same issue that caused him to miss more than two months earlier this season. It seems the injury is less serious this time around, with Boone indicating the IL move was precautionary. Fried played catch Tuesday and will ramp up his throwing as tolerated. It's unclear at this point whether the left-hander will make a rehab start before rejoining the Yankees' rotation.

Yankees' Max Fried: Shuffled to injured list with bone bruise
The Yankees placed Fried on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left elbow bone bruise.
Fried last pitched Thursday, when he gave up one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings in a loss to Seattle. He had been scheduled to take the hill Wednesday in Baltimore, but the elbow issue might have cropped up during his between-starts bullpen session. The Yankees haven't provided a timeline for Fried's return, but he'll miss at least a couple of turns through the rotation before he's eligible for activation Aug. 29. Given that he was forced to the shelf earlier in the season with a similar injury and missed more than two months, Fried seems likely to be out beyond the minimum 15 days.

Yankees' Max Fried: Fans four in tough-luck loss
Fried (4-4) took the loss against the Mariners on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out four.
Other than serving up a solo home run to Weston Wilson in the second inning, Fried delivered another fine performance Thursday. It was the southpaw's third straight start of at least five innings while yielding one run or zero, a feat he's accomplished in four of his past five outings since coming off the injured list. Fried will carry a stellar 2.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 79:27 K:BB over 86.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance in Baltimore.

Yankees' Max Fried: Fans seven in no-decision
Fried did not factor into Friday's decision against Atlanta, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven across 6.1 scoreless innings.
Fried got into a bit of hot water in the first inning after allowing three Atlanta batters on base, though he managed to escape the inning unscathed. He allowed just two more baserunners over the rest of his outing, generating 14 whiffs on 90 pitches (57 strikes), though he came away with the no-decision as both teams failed to score until the eighth inning. It was Fried's first quality start since he was activated off the IL in late July, and the 32-year-old southpaw has a 2.88 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 81.1 innings this season. His next start is lined up for next week at home against the Mariners.
