Rockies' Jose Quintana: Activated before Wednesday's start

The Rockies activated Quintana (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Quintana will start Wednesday's contest in Houston in what will be his second appearance since donning a Rockies uniform. The veteran left-hander did not make any rehab appearances, so it's unclear what kind of workload he will be prepared for Wednesday. Quintana missed the last two-plus weeks with a strained hamstring.
Quintana (hamstring) threw a successful 21-pitch bullpen session Sunday and said he could re-enter Colorado's rotation as early as Wednesday at Houston, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
The veteran left-hander landed on the shelf due to a hamstring strain after his season debut March 29, but it appears he'll be able to rejoin the Rockies' rotation without a rehab assignment. The team has yet to announce its pitching plans for this week, but Quintana should be expected to take the mound Wednesday or shortly thereafter.

Quintana allowed two earned runs over 4.1 innings during his Rockies debut on Sunday, but he appears to have come away from his start with a hamstring injury. He'll miss his next couple of turns through the rotation as a result, though it remains unknown if he'll need more than a minimum-length stay on the IL. Valente Bellozo was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move and figures to take Quintana's place in the rotation.

Quintana came away with the no-decision in the Rockies' 4-3 loss to the Marlins on Sunday. He allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out two across 4.1 innings.
Quintana gave up a run in each of the first two innings of Sunday's start. He managed to keep the Marlins off the board the rest of the way but was not in line for the win after being lifted with one out in the fifth, finishing his day with nine whiffs on 78 pitches (42 strikes). Quintana inked a one-year deal with the Rockies in February after pitching for the Brewers in 2025, when he posted an 11-7 record across 24 regular-season starts with a 3.96 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 89:50 K:BB over 131.2 innings. His next start is tentatively slated for next weekend at home against the Phillies.
Quintana signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Rockies on Tuesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
Quintana will join Colorado following a one-year stint in Milwaukee, with whom he produced a 3.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 131.2 innings in 2025. The 37-year-old veteran doesn't make many bats miss, so his ability to keep the ball in the yard will be crucial to his success -- a task that will only be made more challenging by making his home starts at Coors Field.

The veteran left-hander will be given a $2 million buyout instead. Quintana took the loss Friday against the Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLCS after allowing three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one batter in two-plus innings.
Quintana was hardly able to get comfortable on the mound before Shohei Ohtani blasted a 446-foot home run against him to begin the first inning.
