Mariners' Curtis Washington: Sent back to High-A
The Mariners optioned Washington High-A Everett on Wednesday.
Likely because of Everett's proximity to Seattle more than anything else, the Mariners opted to call up Washington from High-A ahead of Tuesday's game against the Orioles to provide the club with some emergency depth in outfield after Randy Arozarena (hamstring) was placed on the injured list shortly before first pitch. Washington didn't get the chance to make his MLB debut in the Mariners' 3-1 win and will now head back to Everett after Connor Joe arrived from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the spot on the active roster that had belonged to Arozarena. Given that he's 26 years old and has produced a modest .674 OPS at the High-A level this season, Washington will likely be designated for assignment the next time Seattle needs to open up a 40-man roster spot.

Mariners' Connor Joe: Summoned to big leagues
The Mariners recalled Joe from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.
Joe will rejoin the Mariners' active roster as a replacement for Curtis Washington, who was summoned from High-A Everett on an emergency basis to give the team another option in the outfield after Randy Arozarena (hamstring) went on the 10-day injured list. In addition to bolstering the Mariners' depth in the corner outfield while Arozarena is shelved, Joe could factor into the mix for playing time at first base while Josh Naylor (wrist) is day-to-day. Joe previously played in 18 games for Seattle earlier this season, slashing .182/.308/.333 with one home run and two stolen bases across 39 plate appearances.

Mariners' Carlos Vargas: Likely out until early August
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said Tuesday that Vargas (lat) recently began a throwing program and could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list around the Aug. 3 trade deadline, Zac Hereth of 710 AM Seattle Sports reports.
Vargas has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a right lat strain, which he sustained in spring training. Even though Vargas projects to serve as a middle reliever and won't need to get stretched out for more than an inning or two, the Mariners are content to have him move through his throwing program slowly. A more definitive target date for his return should become available once he's ready to head out on a rehab assignment.

Mariners' Will Wilson: Moves to 60-day IL
The Mariners transferred Wilson (thumb) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
Wilson has been on the shelf since May 2 due to a fractured left thumb, but he appeared to be closing in on a return after kicking off a rehab assignment earlier this month and going 6-for-16 with two doubles, three walks and a stolen base in five games between High-A Everett and Triple-A Tacoma. He hasn't played since Friday, however, and was pulled off his assignment with Tacoma after experiencing pain in his finger, per MLB.com. He's set to meet with a specialist in the coming days before a decision is made regarding whether he'll require season-ending surgery to address the injury. Even if Wilson avoids a procedure and is able to treat the injury with rest and rehab, he won't be eligible to return to action for the Mariners until June 29 after being shifted to the 60-day IL.

Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Gets aboard three times
Crawford went 1-for-2 with two walks in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Orioles.
Crawford missed the minimum time on the 10-day injured list due to a hand injury. Notably, he returned as the leadoff hitter and third baseman Tuesday, allowing Colt Emerson to stay at his natural shortstop position. That arrangement looks like it could stick, at least until Brendan Donovan (groin) returns, which isn't imminent. Crawford is batting .231 with a .773 OPS, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored, five doubles and one stolen base over 56 contests. He hit .333 (14-for-42) over the 11 games immediately before his injury, so he'll be looking to sustain that momentum.

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Plates two in return
Raleigh went 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Orioles.
Raleigh returned from a month-long absence due to an oblique strain. He caught all nine innings and delivered the Mariners' winning play at the plate with a two-run single in the seventh. Prior to his stint on the injured list, he went just 2-for-44 (.045) over a 12-game stretch. He should see a majority of the time behind the dish moving forward, though Raleigh may serve as designated hitter occasionally to keep his bat in the lineup without taking too much of a toll on his body. He's batting just .165 with a .566 OPS, seven home runs, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored, four doubles and two stolen bases over 42 contests this season.

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Earns save Tuesday
Munoz allowed a hit and struck out one without walking a batter in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Orioles.
Munoz recently battled back tightness following a poor outing Sunday versus the Nationals. He was cleared to pitch earlier Tuesday and converted his 11th save of the season with 17 pitches (13 strikes). The right-hander has had a poor season with a 5.68 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 38:11 K:BB through 25.1 innings, which also includes five blown saves. However, his inconsistent performance hasn't cost him the closer job yet, and that's unlikely to change immediately since Matt Brash (lat) landed on the injured list last week. If Munoz hits another rough patch, Jose Ferrer, Gabe Speier or Eduard Bazardo would likely be candidates to challenge for save chances.

Mariners' Logan Gilbert: Strikes out 10 in win
Gilbert (5-4) allowed one run on two hits, a walk and a hit batsman while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win over the Orioles on Tuesday.
Gilbert had a shaky first inning, in which he allowed the run and three baserunners. He retired 16 in a row in the middle of his start before plunking Pete Alonso in the seventh inning. After some iffy work early in the season, Gilbert is 3-0 with just five runs allowed across 30 innings over his last five starts. Overall, he has a 3.43 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 92:20 K:BB through 86.2 innings over 15 starts. Gilbert is projected for a favorable home matchup against the Red Sox over the weekend since the Mariners are opting to piggyback Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo on Friday.

Mariners' Curtis Washington: Selected from High-A
The Mariners selected Washington's contract from High-A Everett on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
With Randy Arozarena (hamstring) and Luke Raley (back) both sitting out Tuesday with injuries, the Mariners will promote Washington from High-A all the way to the majors to give depth to their outfield unit. The 26-year-old has slashed just .190/.280/.394 at Everett this season and is unlikely to play outside of an emergency.

Mariners' Randy Arozarena: Heads to IL with hamstring strain
The Mariners placed Arozarena on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a left hamstring strain.
The Mariners originally anticipated Arozarena would return to the starting lineup as soon as Wednesday. However, an MRI on his hamstring revealed more inflammation than the team was expecting, prompting Seattle to deactivate him. Victor Robles and Rob Refsnyder are the most likely candidates to receive more playing time in the corner outfield while Arozarena is out, and the Mariners called up Curtis Washington from High-A Everett to provide emergency depth in the outfield.

Mariners' Connor Joe: Expected to be called up Wednesday
Joe is expected to be called up from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Joe was scratched from Tacoma's lineup Tuesday as he prepares to return to the major-league roster after being sent down to Triple-A on May 22. The outfielder will help replace Randy Arozarena (hamstring) after Arozarena was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Joe has posted a .182 average with one home run, three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases over 33 at-bats in 18 contests with Seattle so far this year.

Mariners' Cooper Criswell: Targeting early-August return
Criswell was diagnosed with a Grade 1-plus pectoral strain Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Criswell initially landed on the injured list last Tuesday with a shoulder strain, but further testing determined the issue to be in his pec. He's scheduled to undergo another MRI in 3-to-4 weeks, at which point he may be cleared to begin a throwing program. If all goes according to plan, the Mariners expect to activate the 29-year-old reliever sometime around the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Starts running progression
Donovan (groin) began a running progression Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Donovan has been sidelined since suffering a left groin strain in mid-May, and he's now set to start running again. Based on the injury, the running program is the largest hurdle for the 29-year-old to clear, and it's expected to last between 10 days and two weeks. If all goes well, Donovan would then be in a position to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

Mariners' Luke Raley: Sitting with back tightness
Raley was left out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Baltimore due to back tightness, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Raley's back tightened up on him shortly before Tuesday's game, causing the Mariners to sit him down as a precaution. Victor Robles, Julio Rodriguez and Dominic Canzone will start in the outfield while Raley gets a break.

Mariners' Luis Castillo: Following Miller on Friday
Castillo will piggyback with starter Bryce Miller during Friday's game against the Red Sox, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.
Castillo and Miller have frequently worked in tandem this season, but Friday's piggyback game will be the result of the Mariners' new plan to move to a schedule in which all six of their starters will rotate through and have piggyback days. It's unclear who the next pairing will be after Miller/Castillo, though both pitchers will presumably have plenty of chances to make traditional starts after Friday.

Mariners' Luke Raley: Left out of lineup versus righty
Raley is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.
The Mariners often hold the left-handed-hitting Raley out of the lineup against southpaws, but he'll take a seat Tuesday with right-hander Brandon Young on the bump for Baltimore. Victor Robles will pick up a start in left field in place of Raley, who has gone just 2-for-21 at the dish over his last six games to bring his average down to .241 for the season.

Mariners' Randy Arozarena: Won't start Tuesday
Arozarena (hamstring) isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Although Arozarena is set to miss a third straight start due to left hamstring soreness, general manager Justin Hollander said the 31-year-old could be available off the bench Tuesday and is likely to return to the starting nine Wednesday. In the meantime, Victor Robles, Julio Rodriguez and Dominic Canzone will form Seattle's outfield trio.

Mariners' Josh Naylor: Sitting down Tuesday
Naylor (shin/wrist) isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
X-rays on Naylor's right shin came back negative following his early exit from Sunday's game against Washington. However, the Mariners will keep him out of action Tuesday, especially now that he is reportedly also dealing with a sore wrist. Miles Mastrobuoni will start at first base in place of Naylor, who appears likely to remain out of the lineup for at least a couple more days, per Jude.
