The Phillies released Gallagher on Saturday. Gallagher appeared in 56 games for Cleveland in 2023, but he had yet to play at any level in 2024. After failing to win a spot on the Phillies' Opening Day roster coming out of spring training, Gallagher had resided on Triple-A Lehigh Valley's restricted list prior to being cut loose.... Phillies' Cam Gallagher: Moves past knee issue
Gallagher (knee) has appeared in each of the Phillies' last three Grapefruit League games, going a collective 1-for-4 with an RBI. Gallagher was scratched from the Phillies' lineup ahead of last Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins due to a right knee contusion, but he needed only a few days to move past the issue. The 31-year-old is battling Garrett Stubbs for the Phillies' No. 2 catcher job this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Cam Gallagher: Scratched with bruised knee
Gallagher was scratched from the Phillies' lineup ahead of Saturday's spring training game versus Miami due to a right knee contusion. Gallagher will presumably get a few days off as a result of his injured knee. The 31-year-old backstop entered camp looking to win a roster spot as J.T. Realmuto's backup, though Gallagher has gone just 2-for-13 across six games this spring.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Cam Gallagher: Links up with Philly
Gallagher signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Sunday that includes an invitation to major-league camp, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Rafael Marchan (back) is a bit banged up early in camp, so the Phillies elected to bring aboard Gallagher for some extra catching depth. Gallagher appeared in 56 games for Cleveland last season but was awful at the plate with a .126/.154/.168 slash line and 30.9 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less -
Cam Gallagher: Becomes free agent
Gallagher elected free agency Friday. The Guardians DFA'd Gallagher on Monday after he put up an .322 OPS over 149 plate appearances, and the 30-year-old backstop will now look to latch on with another team. Given his performance in 2023 and underwhelming MLB track record, it's unlikely Gallagher will be offered more than a minor-league deal.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Designated for assignment
Gallagher was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Monday. Gallagher somehow was given 149 plate appearances in 2023 even as he slashed an embarrassing .126/.154/.168. He'll go through the waiver process.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Limited role in final month
Gallagher played in just eight games in September, going 1-for-20 (.050). Gallagher's usage declined with Bo Naylor earning the starting role behind the dish and David Fry settling in as backup. Over 149 plate appearances this season, Gallagher slashed a terrible .126/.154/.168 with six doubles, seven RBI, six runs scored and no home runs. He's still a fine defensive catcher, but there's likely little future for him in Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Returns from injured list
The Guardians activated Gallagher (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. After being taken out of Cleveland's game Aug. 16 against Cincinnati, Gallagher will return to the active roster after a minimum-length stay on the 7-day IL. However, the 30-year-old backstop has been a liability at the plate with a .339 OPS through 127 plate appearances this season and remains unlikely to see consistent playing time behind Bo Naylor, especially with the Guardians recently landing Eric Haase.... Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Enters 7-day concussion IL
Gallagher was placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion Thursday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Gallagher was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Reds to undergo precautionary testing. Zack Collins was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to serve as Bo Naylor's backup while Gallagher is on the shelf.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Starting Friday
Gallagher is starting at catcher and batting ninth Friday versus the Diamondbacks. Gallagher will take over behind the plate Friday after Mike Zunino was designated for assignment by the Guardians. Gallagher could now become Cleveland's primary catcher, though he has produced an anemic .147/.177/.187 slash line over 75 at-bats in 29 games this season. David Fry is also an option behind the plate, but top prospect Bo Naylor, who's with Triple-A Columbus, figures to be on his way sooner rather than later.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Drives in two runs
Gallagher went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 5-0 win over the Orioles. Gallagher has played infrequently as the Guardians' backup catcher, and this was his second two-RBI game of the year. It's been an ugly May for Gallagher -- he's gone 5-for-32 (.156) over 12 contests. While he remains in the backup role, he could be at risk of losing his spot on the Guardians' roster if they decide to call up Bo Naylor for an extended look in the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Hitting ninth vs. Seattle
Gallagher is hitting ninth and behind the plate for Saturday's game against the Mariners. Gallagher will be the backstop with Aaron Civale on the mound. Mike Zunino started the first two games of the year for the Guardians, but he'll get some rest in this contest.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Added to roster
The Guardians selected Gallagher's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday. Gallagher and Meibrys Viloria both made the roster and will be behind Mike Zunino on the depth chart. The fantasy value among the trio figures to be pretty minimal.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Makes Opening Day roster
Gallagher has been informed that he's made the Opening Day roster for the Guardians, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Gallagher will be one of three catchers on the roster, with Mike Zunino as the starter and Meibrys Viloria also on the club. Gallagher signed a minor-league contract in January with Cleveland, so the Guardians will have to make room on the 40-man roster in order to purchase his contract.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Joins Cleveland on minors deal
Gallagher signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Wednesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Gallagher will head to Cleveland after being released by the Orioles in early November, joining the Guardians on a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to big-league spring training in February. The catcher spent the 2022 campaign as a member of the Royals, producing a .214/.267/.333 slash line with five doubles, five RBI and a run scored over 42 at-bats in 18 games. With newly-acquired Mike Zunino (shoulder) recovering from thoracic outlet surgery he underwent in July, Gallagher could find himself on the Opening Day roster if Zunino were to suffer a setback, though the latter is expected to ready to go for spring training.... Cam Gallagher: Parts ways with Baltimore
Gallagher rejected his outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday and elected free agency, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Gallagher was claimed off waivers by the Orioles in September but won't remain with the organization through the offseason. He never saw the field in Baltimore but appeared in 18 games earlier in the year for Kansas City and went 9-for-42 with no home runs and five RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Cam Gallagher: Scooped up by O's
The Orioles claimed Gallagher off waivers from the Padres on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Reliever Rico Garcia was designated for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Gallagher, who joins his third organization of the season after opening the year with the Royals. Gallagher should be first in line for a promotion to the big leagues if something happens to one of the two backstops on the Orioles' 40-man active roster, Adley Rutschman and Robinson Chirinos.... See More ... See Less -
Padres' Cam Gallagher: Sent to San Diego
Gallagher was acquired by the Padres from the Royals on Tuesday in exchange for Brent Rooker, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. A longtime backup for Kansas City, Gallagher will now head to San Diego, and he's likely to fill a similar role behind Austin Nola and Jorge Alfaro, assuming he remains in the majors. Gallagher has a .656 OPS in 171 career major-league contests.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Cam Gallagher: Makes way back from restricted list
The Royals reinstated Gallagher (personal) from the restricted list Monday. Gallagher was one of 10 Royals players who will rejoin the 26-man active roster after being ineligible to play during the four-game weekend series in Toronto due his vaccination status. He closed the Royals' first-half schedule with a .243/.300/.378 slash line to go with five RBI and one run across 42 plate appearances. Gallagher should settle back in as a lightly used No. 2 catcher behind MJ Melendez (personal), who was also reinstated from the restricted list Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Royals' Cam Gallagher: Deactivated ahead of Toronto series
The Royals placed Gallagher (personal) on the restricted list Thursday. Gallagher is one of 10 Royals on the 26-man active roster who won't be eligible for the four-game series in Toronto due to his vaccination status. He'll be formally reinstated from the restricted list for the Royals' first game coming out of the All-Star break July 22 against Tampa Bay. In addition to Gallagher, fellow catcher MJ Melendez (personal) is also on the restricted list for the Toronto series, so the Royals will bring up two backstops (Sebastian Rivero and Freddy Fermin) from the minors as replacements at the position....
