White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Moving back to rotation
Clevinger will stretch out at the White Sox's complex in Arizona before returning to Triple-A Charlotte as a starter, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Clevinger made eight appearances out of the bullpen for the White Sox, giving up five earned runs in 5.2 innings while turning in a 3:8 K:BB. He was designated for assignment following his poor start and will now attempt to convert back into a starter, which is what his role has been for the vast majority of his career. If he returns to form after reporting to Charlotte, the 34-year-old righty may have a shot at returning to Chicago later this summer.

White Sox's Nick Maton: Resting against lefty
Maton is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.
The lefty-hitting Maton will stay put in Chicago's dugout with left-hander Garrett Crochet set to start on the bump for Boston. Maton's absence will create an opening for Jacob Amaya to join the starting nine as the White Sox's shortstop.

White Sox's Brooks Baldwin: Taking seat Saturday
Baldwin isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Boston.
Baldwin has gone 6-for-20 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored over his last six games. The White Sox will give him a break Saturday while Michael Taylor starts in right field, batting eighth.

White Sox's Jared Shuster: Recalled from Charlotte
The White Sox recalled Shuster from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
The White Sox will call upon Shuster to provide the big-league club with some additional pitching depth while Martin Perez (elbow) moves to the injured list. Shuster has been used exclusively as a reliever in the minors this year, turning in a 1.59 ERA through 11.1 innings.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Placed on IL
The White Sox placed Perez on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left elbow inflammation.
Perez made an early exit from his start Friday due to soreness in his forearm/elbow. The results of his MRI are still unknown, but the White Sox will shut him down for the next couple of weeks anyway. Chicago will need to find a replacement for the 34-year-old in its rotation, but for now, Jared Shuster will come up from Triple-A to give the Sox some extra bullpen depth.

White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Continues to be bright spot in loss
Benintendi went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's loss to the Red Sox.
Benintendi got the White Sox into the hit column with a bang, driving a 383-foot solo shot into right field in the fourth inning against his former team. The veteran outfielder has been one of the lone bright spots in Chicago's feeble lineup when healthy, hitting .278 with three round trippers, seven RBI and seven runs scored through his first 36 at-bats (11 games) of the campaign. Benintendi should play almost every day, but his fantasy upside will be limited by the lack of talent around him.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Slated for MRI
Perez will receive an MRI on his left forearm Saturday, Kyle Williams of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Perez reported soreness in his forearm after the third inning of Friday's contest and decided to exit the game rather than push through it. The results of his MRI will help determine if he'll be able to make his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come in Minnesota on Wednesday.

White Sox's Martin Perez: Leaves with forearm soreness
Perez was removed from his start Friday against the Red Sox due to left forearm soreness.
Perez made it through just three innings before his forearm forced him out of the game. The White Sox will presumably take a closer look at the 34-year-old southpaw to determine whether he suffered any structural damage during his outing Friday, but he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

White Sox's Luis Robert: Getting breather amid slump
Robert is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
Robert has gone hitless in his last four games to drag his season-long OPS down to .439, so he'll get a day Friday to regroup. The White Sox have Michael Taylor in center field and batting ninth Friday.

White Sox's Edgar Quero: Not in Friday's lineup
Quero is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Boston.
Quero was summoned for his major-league debut Thursday and started at catcher versus the Athletics, but he'll be on the bench as the White Sox begin a weekend series versus the Red Sox. The 22-year-old should still ultimately see the bulk of the playing time at catcher on the South Side, but Matt Thaiss is drawing the start Friday.

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Passes through waivers
The White Sox outrighted Clevinger to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Clevinger passed through waivers unclaimed after being removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week. He has the ability to elect free agency rather than accept an outright assignment to the minors, but it's unclear whether Clevinger will choose that route.

White Sox's Keone Kela: Inks MiLB deal with White Sox
Kela signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Wednesday.
Kela has been assigned to the Arizona Complex League as he builds up his arm. He last pitched in the Mexican winter league and hasn't thrown in the majors since appearing in 12 regular-season games for the Padres in 2021, when he registered a 5.06 ERA and 13:3 K:BB across 10.2 innings of relief. Kela just turned 32 years old on Wednesday.

White Sox's Davis Martin: Falls to A's
Martin (1-2) took the loss Thursday against the Athletics, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.
Martin held the A's to one run through his first four innings before giving up a solo homer to Lawrence Butler in the fifth followed by a JJ Bleday two-run blast in the sixth. The 28-year-old righty has covered at least five frames in each of his first four starts of the year but has otherwise provided inconsistent results, with a 4.84 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB across 22.1 innings.

White Sox's Nick Maton: Sitting against southpaw
Maton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
The left-handed-hitting Maton will retreat to the bench while the Athletics send southpaw JP Sears to the hill for the series finale. Though Maton has logged 42 of his 43 plate appearances against opposite-handed pitching, he's batting just .139 with a pair of home runs and a 27.9 percent strikeout rate. The White Sox have been using Maton as their primary option at designated hitter versus righties this season, but his lack of production thus far could inspire manager Will Venable to use a rotation of players at the DH spot.

White Sox's Matt Thaiss: Likely to lose work to Quero
Thaiss is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Thaiss emerged as the White Sox's No. 1 backstop early on this season, but he'll be on the bench for the second straight day Thursday and now looks poised to move into a backup role with Chicago promoting catching prospect Edgar Quero from Triple-A Charlotte. Even while seeing the bulk of the work behind the plate through Chicago's first 17 games of the season, Thaiss didn't make much of a fantasy impact, batting .241 with few counting statistics (zero home runs, zero steals, three runs, three RBI).
