Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Rebounds in no-decision
Hancock did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Guardians, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings.
Hancock bounced back nicely after consecutive five-run outings, holding Cleveland to just one hit through his first four innings. The Guardians finally broke through in the fifth, opening the frame with three straight singles before a sacrifice fly accounted for the lone run against the right-hander. Hancock exited in line for the win, but Seattle's bullpen surrendered five runs in the eighth inning to erase the lead. He now owns a 3.47 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 87:22 K:BB across 90.2 innings and is lined up to have his next outing at home against Toronto.

Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Starting Sunday
Hancock will start Sunday's game against the Guardians, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Hancock was originally scheduled to work as the back half of a piggyback plan with Logan Gilbert on Saturday, but the former will now get the opportunity to make a traditional start during Sunday's series finale. George Kirby will be pushed back to Monday's game against the Angels as a result, and it's unknown which two of Seattle's six starters will be used in the team's next piggyback game.

Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Part of piggyback plan Saturday
Hancock will be used out of the bullpen in Saturday's game in Cleveland as part of the latter half of a piggyback arrangement with starter Logan Gilbert, Cameron Van Til of 710 AM Seattle Sports reports.
Manager Dan Wilson announced last week that the Mariners would maintain a five-man rotation through the All-Star break but keep all six of their starters involved by using two in a piggyback arrangement every sixth game. After Bryce Miller and Luis Castillo worked in tandem last Friday versus Boston, Gilbert and Hancock will be paired together this weekend. Assuming their usage mimics that of Miller and Castillo from last week, Gilbert will likely cover around five innings and 70-to-80 pitches, while Hancock steps in to handle the final four frames. The setup will likely lessen Hancock's fantasy appeal this week, though managers may have already been leaning toward keeping him on their benches anyway. After submitting a 2.74 ERA and 0.95 WHIP through his first 13 starts, Hancock turned in his worst outings of the season in his last two starts, giving up a combined 11 earned runs on 13 hits and two walks in 9.1 innings while taking losses against the Nationals and Red Sox.

Hancock (5-4) allowed five runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over 5.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Red Sox.
Hancock has had two bad starts in a row, giving up 11 runs over 9.1 frames in that span. The right-hander struggled in the fourth and sixth innings, and another weak showing from the Mariners' offense provided no room for error. Hancock is now at a 3.60 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 81:19 K:BB over 85 innings across 15 starts this season. His next outing is tentatively projected to be on the road versus the Guardians.

Hancock (5-3) took the loss Sunday against the Nationals, allowing six runs on nine hits and no walks in four innings. He struck out four.
Four of the hits allowed went for extra bases in what was Hancock's season-worst outing virtually across the board. The 27-year-old right-hander gave up a season-high six runs and nine hits, also fanning a season-low two in his shortest start of the year. Hancock will try to flush Sunday's outing in his next scheduled appearance at home against Boston, and he still holds a strong 3.28 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 75:17 K:BB over 79.2 frames.

Hancock continued to provide the Mariners with length, working at least five innings in each of his first 13 starts. Additionally, Monday marked his fifth consecutive outing where he gave up two runs or fewer. Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Continues to impress
Hancock (4-2) earned the win over the Athletics on Tuesday, allowing one hit and issuing two walks while striking out three batters over six scoreless innings.
Hancock had a perfect game going through four, but that was snapped when he issued a leadoff walk to Brent Rooker in the fifth. Hancock gave up his lone hit of the game -- a single -- one batter later, but the A's were unable to put any runs on the scoreboard. The right-hander ended up throwing 87 pitches over six innings to notch his seventh quality start through 11 outings this season. Hancock seems to be in the midst of a breakout campaign, as he has a 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 63:15 K:BB through 64.2 innings.

Mariners' Emerson Hancock: No-decision vs. White Sox
Hancock did not factor into the decision in Seattle's 5-4 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings.
It's just the third time in 10 starts this year that Hancock was unable to make it through six innings. While he failed to come away with the win Wednesday, Hancock delivered another solid outing overall despite matching a season high with three walks. His ERA sits at 3.07 through 58.2 innings this year with a 1.06 WHIP and 60:13 K:BB. Hancock is tentatively lined up to face the A's on the road his next time out.

Hancock (3-2) allowed one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Padres.
Hancock was unlucky in this one, as the Padres were able to piece together a run in the fourth inning, and that was the difference. This was his sixth quality start in nine outings this season, and it's the fourth time he's avoided giving up a home run. Hancock is at a 3.02 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 56:10 K:BB through 53.2 innings. For now, he appears to have secured his spot in the rotation, though he can't afford an extended rough patch while the Mariners have six healthy starters. Hancock is tentatively projected to make his next start at home versus the White Sox.

Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Escapes with third win
Hancock (3-1) gave up five earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters in six innings to earn the win Friday over the White Sox.
After Hancock gave up a home run to Munetaka Murakami in the first inning, Seattle's offense responded by giving its starter a 5-1 lead to work with entering the bottom of the third. That lead quickly disappeared courtesy of a Sam Antonacci RBI single and Colson Montgomery's three-run double. Hancock retired nine of the next 11 batters he faced and came away with the win after exiting with a 6-5 lead. Despite the offensive onslaught from the White Sox, the 26-year-old righty still boasts a strong 3.21 ERA and 1.01 WHIP through 47.2 innings.
