Davis is projected to make the Opening Day roster by Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. Davis has had impressive moments in spring training, with the team particularly happy that he's hit the ball to all areas of the field. He has a .238 ISO across 23 plate appearances to show for it, though he's also struck out at a 26.1 percent clip. Joey Bart will begin the season as the starter behind the plate, but Davis would potentially start a few times per week if he cracks the roster.... See More ... See Less

Pirates' Henry Davis: Healthy for spring
Davis (hand) was spotted taking batting practice Thursday during the Pirates' second workout of spring training, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Davis appears to have reported to camp without any restrictions after finishing the 2024 season on the injured list due to left hand inflammation. Even before being shut down with the hand injury, Davis had endured a rough second season at the big-league level, slashing just .144/.242/.212 with a 37.2 percent strikeout rate in 121 plate appearances while allowing Joey Bart to emerge as the team's top backstop. Davis fared much better over his extended playing time at Triple-A Indianapolis (.952 OPS in 253 plate appearances), and since the Pirates are already confident in his defense behind the plate, he'll get another chance this spring to stake his claim to the No. 1 catching gig with the big club. Bart will open the spring as the frontrunner for the job, and Davis will also face competition from Endy Rodriguez, who is healthy again after missing nearly all of the 2024 season while recovering from elbow surgery.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Out with hand injury
The Pirates placed Davis on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to left hand inflammation, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. It's unclear when exactly Davis suffered the injury, but he hasn't seen the field since going 0-for-3 with a strikeout Wednesday against the Cubs. Joey Bart and Yasmani Grandal will continue to split catching duties for the Pirates.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: First start since being recalled
Davis went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts Tuesday against the Cubs. Davis was recalled to the majors Monday to replace Joey Bart (hamstring) on the roster. Davis drew his first start one day later, serving as the catcher while hitting ninth. He should get some opportunity for at-bats as long as Bart is sidelined, though it's unclear how playing time will be allocated between Davis and Yasmani Grandal.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Recalled from Triple-A, as expected
The Pirates recalled Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Davis will receive another opportunity as a result of Joey Bart (hamstring) landing on the 10-day injured list. The 24-year-old has managed a .503 OPS in 29 games in the majors this season but had been hitting well of late with Indianapolis with a .939 OPS and a couple of home runs over his last 12 contests. Davis should share catching responsibilities with Yasmani Grandal while Bart is sidelined.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Set to join major-league roster
Davis is expected to be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Davis will return to the major-league roster for the first time since mid-June after producing a .301 average with six home runs, 26 RBI, 25 runs scored and seven stolen bases since his demotion. The 24-year-old will replace Joey Bart (hamstring) in a timeshare at catcher with Yasmani Grandal after Bart is officially placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Activated and optioned
The Pirates reinstated Davis (concussion) from the 7-day injured list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis. Davis had made the last three of his five rehab appearances at Indianapolis, so he'll stick around with the affiliate since the Pirates didn't have a spot for him on the 26-man active roster. Joey Bart will continue to serve as the top backup to No. 1 catcher Yasmani Grandal, though with Grandal on an expiring contract and having mustered a lowly .511 OPS over 128 plate appearances on the season, it wouldn't be surprising if he was eventually designated for assignment to make room for Davis at some point after the All-Star break.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Resuming rehab assignment
Davis (concussion) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Davis was pulled off a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona this past weekend after he experienced recurring concussion symptoms. However, he's evidently passed the necessary protocols and will resume things in Indianapolis. Davis could be ready for activation soon if he can avoid another setback, but he's not guaranteed to return to the big-league roster at that time.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Rehab assignment put on pause
Davis had his rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona put on hold over the weekend after he experienced recurring concussion symptoms, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Initially placed on the 7-day injured list June 15 after experiencing concussion-like symptoms a day earlier in the Pirates' win over the Rockies, Davis was cleared to begin his rehab assignment last Wednesday. However, after appearing in two games with Altoona, Davis suffered an apparent setback and is now without a clear timeline to resume the assignment. With Joey Bart beating Davis back from the 10-day IL on Sunday, the Pirates may not have room for Davis on the big-league roster once his concussion symptoms subside and he's cleared to return from the 7-day IL.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Beginning assignment Wednesday
Davis (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on Wednesday, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Davis has been on the 7-day concussion IL since June 15, and Wednesday will be the first time he's played in any sort of game since then. The Pirates haven't indicated how long the 24-year-old's assignment might last, though it's possible he remains in the minors upon being activated after slashing just .153/.267/.235 across 101 major-league plate appearances this season.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Chance to return Monday
Davis (concussion) has resumed most baseball activities, MLB.com reports. Davis has been on the 7-day injured list since June 14 and had continued to experience some mild symptoms as of Friday. As a result, the earliest he will be activated from the IL is Monday, though his absence could extend beyond that.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Goes on concussion IL
The Pirates placed Davis (concussion) on the 7-day injured list Saturday. Davis was removed from Friday's 5-2 win over the Rockies with concussion-like symptoms. Jason Delay was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move and should be expected to serve as the primary understudy to Yasmani Grandal at catcher while both Davis and Joey Bart (thumb) are on the shelf.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Belts first homer
Davis went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Wednesday in a 4-2 loss to the Cardinals. Davis gave Pittsburgh its second run of the contest with a solo shot to center field in the eighth inning. The long ball was his first in what has been a very disappointing season, as he's slashing a meager .157/.273/.241 through 99 plate appearances. With Joey Bart (thumb) on the injured list, Davis has been splitting time behind the plate with veteran Yasmani Grandal.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Back in majors, will start Tuesday
The Pirates recalled Davis from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Manager Derek Shelton confirmed that Davis will draw the start at catcher Tuesday against the Dodgers in the 24-year-old's return to the big leagues. He should ultimately split starts behind the dish with veteran Yasmani Grandal. Davis was optioned in early May after a dreadful start to the season, but he rebounded at Indianapolis by slashing .296/.436/.642 with seven home runs in 23 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Returning to big leagues
Davis is expected to be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Corey Crisan of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports. Davis was sent down May 3 after a disappointing start to the season with the Pirates, but he's slashed .282 with seven home runs, 17 RBI, 18 runs scored and a stolen base over 22 contests at Triple-A. He opened the season as Pittsburgh's primary option at catcher, and he'll likely split time with Yasmani Grandal at backstop once back in the big leagues. Grant Koch stands out as the most likely option to be sent down to Indianapolis in a corresponding move, but nothing is official yet.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Playing time dipping
Davis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Brewers. He has now started just two of the previous six games and will give way to Joey Bart behind the dish Thursday. Davis is slashing just .180/.288/.230 with a 31.1 percent strikeout rate this season, and with Yasmani Grandal (foot) nearing a return, he could find himself back in the minors soon.... See More ... Pirates' Henry Davis: Takes seat Saturday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox. Davis started at catcher in each of the Pirates' last four games, going 2-for-12 over that span. He was a late addition to the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets after Joey Bart (head) was scratched. Bart will draw back in behind the plate Saturday while batting fifth against Boston right-hander Kutter Crawford.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Late addition to lineup
Davis will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Mets. The Pirates' initial lineup released earlier Wednesday didn't include Davis, but he'll end up making a third straight start behind the dish to close out the series in Queens. Joey Bart was scratched from the lineup to make room for Davis, though it isn't clear whether Bart was removed from the starting nine due to an injury or illness or simply due to a managerial decision.... Pirates' Henry Davis: Moves to bench Wednesday
Davis is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. Davis is on the bench Wednesday for what looks to be a routine maintenance day while the series finale begins at 1:10 p.m. ET. Joey Bart will step in at catcher in place of Davis, who is hitting just .180 with a 29.5 percent strikeout rate over 61 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Pirates' Henry Davis: Resting Sunday
Davis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports. Davis will get a breather for the series finale in Philadelphia after catching each of the Bucs' last four contests while going 4-for-13 with one double, three walks, two runs and two RBI. Joey Bart will step in to handle catching duties for Pittsburgh.... See More ... See Less
