  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Begins week with DNP

    Jewell (hamstring/groin) didn't practice Wednesday.

Jewell missed the Panthers' Week 5 loss to the Bears after sustaining hamstring and groin injuries the week prior, and Wednesday's DNP confirms he's still dealing with these issues. The 29-year-old's participation Thursday and Friday will provide a better indication of his potential availability for Week 6, when the Panthers host the Falcons.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Unavailable for Week 5

Jewell (hamstring/groin) did not practice Friday and is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Jewell will miss his first game of the 2024 campaign due to a pair of injuries. The veteran linebacker didn't practice in any capacity leading up to Week 5 action, so he may also be a candidate to sit out Week 6 against the Falcons. Trevin Wallace will be the favorite to benefit from increased snaps on defense for as long as Jewell is sidelined.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Logs DNP on Wednesday

    Jewell (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday.

Jewell exited the Panthers' Week 4 loss to the Bengals with a hamstring injury after logging seven total tackles over 40 defensive snaps. The Iowa product will likely need to upgrade to at least limited participation Thursday or Friday in order to suit up for the Panthers' Week 5 matchup against the Bears.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Larger role incoming?

Jewell (hamstring) recorded seven total tackles (three solo) during Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Bengals.

Jewell exited with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss, but the Iowa product was still able to finish third on Carolina in total tackles. Shaq Thompson appeared to have sustained a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 4, which could be detrimental to an already weak Panthers defense. However, Jewell projects to be Carolina's top inside linebacker without Thompson and could serve as the team's defensive play caller. Jewell has already been producing at a high level, racking up 30 total tackles and three passes defended across the Panthers' first four games. Once the first-year Panther moves past his hamstring issue, he could be an extremely valuable IDP asset moving forward.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Not expected to return

Jewell (hamstring) is doubtful to return to Sunday's game against the Bengals, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

Jewell's exit came early in the fourth quarter and saw Claudin Cherelus and Trevin Wallace finish the position at linebacker. Assuming Jewell doesn't return, he'll work to get back in time for Week 5 against the Bears.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Double-digit tackles Sunday

Jewell recorded 11 total tackles (eight solo) during Sunday's 26-3 loss to the Chargers.

Jewell finished as Carolina's second-leading tackler in Week 2, trailing only Shaq Thompson's 14-stop performance. The first-year Panther has proved to be an impactful inside linebacker despite Carolina's defensive struggles across its first two games, as Jewell has logged 18 total tackles and one pass defended on 123 defensive snaps. He's expected to continue racking up tackles as the Panthers take on the Raiders in Week 3.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Ready for Sunday

Jewell (groin) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Chargers.

Despite practicing in a limited fashion both Thursday and Friday, Jewell will suit up for the Panthers in Week 2. Now that the 29-year-old is past his groin injury, he's expected to start alongside Shaq Thompson as part of Carolina's top inside linebacker duo Sunday.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Limited Thursday

Jewell (groin) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.

Jewell wasn't listed on the injury report Wednesday, so his groin issue appears to have popped up during practice. The starting linebacker's participation level Friday figures to be telling for his availability against the Chargers on Sunday.

  • Panthers' Josey Jewell: Signing with Carolina

The Panthers have agreed to terms with Jewell, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

It's a three-year, $22.75 million deal with $10 million guaranteed, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The 29-year-old spent each of his first six seasons with the Broncos, and 2023 marked his third with at least 100 tackles. In Carolina, Jewell links back up with DC Ejiro Evero after Evero was Denver's defensive coordinator in 2022. Jewell should know the defense.

  • Broncos' Josey Jewell: Posts 108 stops over 16 games

Jewell recorded 108 tackles (60 solo), including 3.0 sacks, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries over 16 contests during the 2023 campaign.

Jewell finished his sixth season in Denver with the second-most tackles behind Alex Singleton. The veteran linebacker's 3.0 sacks and three fumble recoveries were both career highs for each category. Jewell is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the Broncos may be compelled to re-sign him ahead of the 2024 campaign based on his consistent production. The 29-year-old will look to pick up where he left off as a strong IDP option next season.
