  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Early season struggles continue

Story went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during the Red Sox's 4-1 loss to the Tigers on Saturday. Story served as the designated hitter for Saturday's bout, though that shift didn't pay off as he was struck out in all three of his at-bats against Tarik Skubal. Story has gone 0-for-9 with six strikeouts over the first two games of the series and is slashing .188/.202/.306 with one steal, two home runs, 17 RBI and a 30.6 percent strikeout rate over 89 plate appearances this season.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Working as DH

Story will start at DH and bat fourth against the Tigers on Saturday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Story lost his four-game hitting streak with an 0-for-4 performance in Friday's series opener, but he'll remain in the lineup Saturday as the designated hitter against Tarik Skubal and the Tigers with Andruw Monasterio at shortstop.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Drives in five at Minnesota

Story went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, a home run and five RBI in Wednesday's 9-5 win over the Twins. The veteran shortstop capped a five-run third inning with a three-run shot off Simeon Woods Richardson before adding a two-run double in the sixth. The long ball was Story's first in April and second of the season, and while he had a sluggish start to the campaign, he appears to have found his groove -- over the last nine games he's batting .314 (11-for-35) with a whopping 15 RBI.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Four hits, two RBI in victory

Story went 4-for-5 with a double, two RBI and one run scored in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Cardinals. The shortstop entered Sunday batting .131 with a .354 OPS, so it's been a struggle for Story across the first two-plus weeks of the 2026 season. Sunday marked his first multi-hit game of the campaign, and he upped his slash line to .182/.188/.273 with the four-hit afternoon. Story singled and scored in the second inning, singled again in the third, singled to lead off the fifth and had a two-run double in the ninth to pad the Boston lead. Through 69 plate appearances, Story has one homer, 11 RBI, four runs scored and a 1:21 BB:K.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Records two RBI again

Story went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-0 win over Milwaukee. Story plated runs on a sacrifice fly and a single, giving him three consecutive games with two RBI. All that run production came after the shortstop was dropped from second in the order to fifth. After a bumpy start, Story's now hit in four consecutive games.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Drives home two in win

Story went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Brewers. Story broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth with an 0-2 double off DL Hall after Jacob Misiorowski loaded the bases. It's been a struggle at the plate for Story in the early going this season, as he's now slashing .140/.137/.240 with one home run, six RBI, one run scored and an ugly 0:18 BB:K across 51 plate appearances. The good news is that Story has hit safely in three consecutive games and driven in four runs over the last two games after being dropped to fifth in the order.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Moved down order

Story batted fifth and went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Monday's 8-6 loss to the Brewers. Red Sox manager Alex Cora dropped Story from second to fifth in the order, and the move paid dividends early, when Story singled in a run in the first inning. He later drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. While Story's offense (.130 average, .143 with RISP) has been a contributing factor to the team's malaise, it's far from the lone issue tormenting Boston which is an MLB-worst 2-8 due to a variety of reasons.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Chase percentage up

Story is tied for the MLB lead in swings outside the zone (43), and his 18 swing-and-misses are tied for fourth. Story, whose 51.2 chase percentage ranks third in the majors, has struck out 17 times in 42 at-bats (40.5 K%) and is batting .119 following a 1-for-5 effort with two punchouts in Sunday's loss to San Diego. "I think the swing is in a good place," Boston manager Alex Cora told Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. "And you watch video and yes, it's same timing mechanism, hands placement. The body looks the same. It's just, 'What are we swinging (at)?'" For comparison, Story chased at a 35.3 percent clip and posted a 26.9 strikeout percentage in 2025.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Struggles continue

Story went 0-for-4 in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Padres. Much like 2025, Story is off to a poor start. His hitless streak reached 16 at-bats Saturday, with two of those plate appearances coming with runners in scoring position. The shortstop is 1-for-11 in such situations and batting .108 (4-for-37) with just two RBI through eight contests.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Eventful day in loss

Story went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Reds. Story's third-inning homer was his first of the season, but the at-bat with more impact occurred in the eighth inning with two outs, two runners on and Boston trailing by one. Home plate umpire CB Bucknor, who had six ball/strike calls overturned by ABS overturned and potentially would have had more had Boston not used up all of its challenges early in the game, rung up Story on what appeared to be a check swing. Without a challenge to use, Story went old school and threw a tantrum at home plate; Red Sox manager Alex Cora came out to protect his player and was eventually ejected. Story is 2-for-11 through two games with an RBI in each contest.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Having workload monitored

The Red Sox are monitoring Story's workload this spring and will continue to do so during the regular season, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Story is being held out of the lineup Sunday for a third consecutive game, but the Red Sox are merely exercising caution with the 33-year-old. The club plans to give him a little more rest in 2026 after Story, who missed significant time in the first three years of the contract he signed with Boston in 2022, played 160 games last year, including playoffs.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Likely No. 2 hitter

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Sunday that he likes the idea of Story batting second, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. "What he did last year, the last three months, he was one of the best hitters in the big leagues," Cora said, indicating why he likes Story batting second. Story made his spring debut Sunday, hitting out of the two-hole, and went hitless in three plate appearances. It's the same place in the order where he landed in his final 10 games of the regular season and all three postseason contests in 2025. The righty-hitter was tucked in between two lefties -- Roman Anthony at leadoff and Jarren Duran third.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Will not opt out of contract

Story will remain with the Red Sox after choosing not to opt out of the two years and $50 million left on his contract, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Story is owed $25 million each of the next two seasons and the Red Sox have a $25 million club option or $5 million buyout on him for 2028. He might have been able to get more than that on the open market, but Story -- who will turn 33 later this month -- has opted to stay put. Story slashed .263/.308/.433 with 25 home runs and 31 stolen bases over 157 regular-season games for Boston in 2025.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Getting Saturday off

Story isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Tigers, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. The Red Sox will give Story a breather Saturday after the team clinched a postseason berth with Friday's win. David Hamilton will pick up a start at shortstop as a result and bat leadoff.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Mixed results in loss

Story went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics. Story continued to show a productive September bat, logging a fourth consecutive multi-hit effort and upping his OPS to 1.023 for the month. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, the normally sure-handed defender committed two errors that contributed to two unearned runs. The home run gave him 25 for the season to go along with 93 RBI and 31 steals.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Reaches 30 steals

Story went 3-for-4 and stole two bases in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Athletics. Story stole bags after singling in the first and third innings. The two thefts upped his season total to a career-high 30. More impressive, no backstop has been able to catch him stealing yet in 2025. This marks the fourth time since the expansion era began in 1961 that a player has started a season with 30 straight successful attempts.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Pops homer in win

Story went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 7-0 win over the Athletics. Story homered in the first inning, and that's all Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet needed. It was the 24th home run of the season for Story, who has six multi-hit efforts, four home runs and a .998 OPS over his last 13 games.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Records two hits, steal in win

Story went 2-for-3 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Sunday's 7-4 win over the Diamondbacks. Story has five multi-hit efforts and five steals over his last 12 games, batting .304 (14-for-46) in that span. The shortstop continues to be effective on the basepaths with 27 steals and has still not gotten caught stealing. He's added a strong .262/.308/.436 slash line with 23 home runs, 89 RBI, 80 runs scored and 25 doubles across 140 contests.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Registers 26th steal

Story went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 10-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Story has made an impact on the basepaths with four steals over his last 10 games. On the year, he's up to 26 steals, and he's yet to get caught. Only Story and Minnesota's Byron Buxton have swiped 20-plus bags without getting caught so far this season. Story has added a .259/.306/.434 slash line with 23 home runs, 88 RBI, 79 runs scored and 24 doubles over 138 contests in his first fully healthy campaign in a Boston uniform.

  • Red Sox's Trevor Story: Cracks homer, three hits

Story went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional RBI in Monday's 6-4 victory over the Guardians. The Boston shortstop poked a ball around Pesky's Pole in right for a 306-foot round tripper off Cleveland reliever Jakob Junis in the eighth. Monday's contest marked Story's 10th three-hit performance of the season, as he is coming off a hot August during which he slashed .278/.345/.472 with five homers and seven steals over 119 plate appearances. Overall, the 32-year-old is now slashing .260/.307/.437 with 23 homers, 24 steals, 86 RBI and 78 runs scored in 558 total plate appearances.
