Although he came out of the gate slowly, Eddie Rosario ultimately had a nice bounce-back showing in 2023 in his first full season after eye surgery, returning to the 20-homer plateau for the first time since 2019 while also driving in 74 runs. The consistency was lacking, as the 32-year-old had a 1.115 OPS in June and a .942 OPS in August but didn't even reach the .700 mark any of the other four months. He also rarely started when the opposition had a lefty on the mound. Atlanta decided against picking up Rosario's $9 million option for 2024, so he's looking for a new home. Given how prolific Atlanta's offense was in 2023, Rosario will be facing a downtick in team context virtually anywhere he winds up, although it's possible his new club won't platoon him so strictly. In any case, Rosario figures to be a borderline and fairly boring mixed-league option.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: On bench again Sunday

Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports. Rosario has a .450 OPS through 19 games in June and will sit Sunday for the second consecutive day. The 32-year-old's roster spot could be in jeopardy with top prospect James Wood set to be called up for his MLB debut Monday.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Resting Saturday

Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay. Rosario will get a breather Saturday after going 1-for-4 in Friday's series opener -- his first hit in his last four games. His absence will allow Harold Ramirez to serve as Washington's DH while batting sixth.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Sitting amid slump

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. The lefty-hitting Rosario typically hits the bench against left-handed pitching, but he'll take a seat Wednesday while a righty (Dylan Cease) toes the rubber for the Padres. Despite seeing limited exposure to same-handed pitching, Rosario has fallen into a slump at the plate lately, going 6-for-41 while failing to draw a walk in any of his last 12 games. The Nationals added another option at designated hitter to the roster Tuesday in Harold Ramirez, who is in the lineup Wednesday and could challenge Rosario for the top spot on the depth chart.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Idle against southpaw

Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup Sunday versus the Rockies. With left-hander Kyle Freeland on the bump for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Rosario will take a seat on Washington's bench. His absence will move Nick Senzel into the DH role while Trey Lipscomb starts at the hot corner, batting seventh.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Idle against southpaw

Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. The lefty-hitting Rosario will take a seat for the second day in a row while the Marlins bring another left-hander (Jesus Luzardo) to the hill. Though he's turned in an unremarkable .520 OPS thus far in June, Rosario still seems to have a hold on a near-everyday role against right-handed pitching.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Playing time trending down

Rosario is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus Atlanta. It's the third time in four games that Rosario has been out of the lineup. Two of those have been against lefties -- including Friday -- but Rosario also sat out Thursday's contest versus a right-hander. Jesse Winker and Lane Thomas will handle corner outfield duties for the Nationals on Friday.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Not starting Thursday

Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup for Thursday's game against Atlanta. Although the Nationals will be matched up against right-hander Reynaldo Lopez on Thursday, Rosario will take a seat after going 4-for-19 with an RBI and two runs scored across his last five games. His absence will allow Jesse Winker to start in left field while Joey Meneses serves as Washington's designated hitter.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Absent from lineup

Rosario is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta. Left-hander Max Fried is slated to start for Atlanta, so the lefty-batting Rosario will begin this one on the bench. The veteran outfielder hasn't made a single start versus a southpaw this season.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Swipes eighth bag

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double and a stolen base in Monday's victory over Atlanta. He also had one RBI and two runs scored. Rosario continues his resurgent May, managing to steal his eighth base of the season in the third inning. The veteran outfielder entered the game slashing .258/.319/.576 with six homers, six steals, 15 RBI and 14 runs scored in 73 plate appearances this month. Rosario's hot play should allow him to maintain a strong-side platoon role despite Lane Thomas (knee) returning from the injured list Monday.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Mashes seventh homer

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's win over the Mariners. The veteran outfielder took former Nats pitcher Austin Voth deep in the eighth inning to cap the scoring in a 6-1 victory, Six of Rosario's seven homers on the season have come in his last 16 games, a stretch in which he's slashing .302/.362/.698 with four steals, 13 runs and 15 RBI.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Drives in three

Rosario went 2-for-5 with a stolen base, three RBI and a run scored in Monday's victory over Minnesota. Rosario knocked two singles against his former club to collect his first three-RBI game with the Nationals. However, the highlight of the 32-year-old's evening came in the sixth inning when he was credited with a steal of home. The veteran outfielder has caught fire in May, hitting .333 (16-for-48) with five homers, 14 RBI and 13 runs scored. Nationals manager Dave Martinez has taken notice too, slotting Rosario at second or third in the order for seven of his last eight starts.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Goes yard

Rosario went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run during Sunday's 11-5 loss to the Phillies. Rosario clobbered his sixth home run of the campaign -- each of which has come off right-handed pitching -- in the fourth inning off Aaron Nola. Although Rosario is batting .180, he's swiped six bags through 36 games, tying his combined total from the last two seasons.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Resting versus lefty

Rosario isn't in the Nationals' lineup Saturday against the Phillies. Rosario will take a seat on the bench as southpaw Cristopher Sanchez gets set to start Saturday's game for Philadelphia. Jesse Winker, Jacob Young and Victor Robles will start across the outfield while Rosario sits.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Taking seat against southpaw

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. With left-hander Garrett Crochet on the hill for Chicago, the lefty-hitting Rosario will hit the bench for the series finale. Rosario picked up starts in the corner outfield in both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader, going a collective 2-for-9 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Lone source of offense

Rosario went 1-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a two-run home run during Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Red Sox. The veteran outfielder produced the Nationals' only runs Sunday, taking Brayan Bello deep in the fourth frame. Rosario is on a tear, having swatted four home runs in his last six games while reaching base multiple times in seven consecutive contests. He has also produced three stolen bases during that stretch, tying his 2022 and 2023 totals.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Belts clutch homer

Rosario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a walk in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Orioles. The Nationals were down to their last out against Baltimore closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth inning when Rosario came through with a solo blast to center field to cut the deficit to one. Washington plated another run in the frame to send the game into extra innings, though the team ultimately fell short. The blast was another step in the right direction for Rosario, who recently went through an 11-game, 0-for-27 slump. Since then, the veteran outfielder has gotten at least one hit in four straight games, going 6-for-14 with two homers and four RBI over that span.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Still has manager's confidence

Rosario has remained a regular in the Nationals' lineup despite his early-season struggles, and manager Dave Martinez hasn't given up on the 32-year-old, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. "It's early," Martinez said Thursday. "You've got to give him a chance, you really do. I'm not going to sit him down yet right now. He's got to go out there and play. ... I've seen him play before. This kid can hit. He can put you on his shoulders." At the moment, Rosario is handling the strong side of a platoon in right field while Lane Thomas (knee) is injured, but he's mired in an 0-for-27 slump that has sunk his slash line on the season to .086/.133/.157. Rosario has a history of slow starts, but even his xBA and xwOBA are in the bottom one percent of qualified hitters. Once Thomas gets healthy, the Nats may not be able to afford to stay patient with Rosario, especially with top prospect James Wood also making a strong case for a promotion to the majors.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Takes seat against lefty

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers. The lefty-hitting Rosario once again finds himself on the bench for the third time in four games while the Nationals face another left-handed starting pitcher (Andrew Heaney). Platoon mate Alex Call gets the start in right field while Rosario takes a seat.

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Out against lefty again

Rosario is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Miami. With the Nationals facing a left-handed starting pitcher for the second consecutive day, the lefty-hitting Rosario will cede his spot in the lineup to the right-handed-hitting Alex Call. As a strong-side platoon player, Rosario should still see the bulk of the starts in right field while the Nationals are without Lane Thomas (knee) and Joey Gallo (shoulder).

  • Nationals' Eddie Rosario: Hits bench against lefty

Rosario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. Though his playing time against right-handed pitching should be stable for the foreseeable future while Lane Thomas (knee) and Joey Gallo (shoulder) are on the shelf, the lefty-hitting Rosario is still expected to sit regularly versus southpaws. Rosario will hit the bench Sunday with lefty Ryan Weathers on the hill for Miami, paving the way for the righty-hitting Alex Call to draw a start in the corner outfield.
