  • Padres' Jason Adam: Records save Saturday

Adam earned a save against the Rockies on Saturday by retiring the only batter he faced. The Padres took a 9-5 lead into the ninth inning, and Bradgley Rodriguez opened that frame on the mound. However, Rodriguez loaded the bases with two outs, and with Mason Miller having pitched three straight days, manager Craig Stammen turned to Adam for the final out. The righty came through by getting Ezequiel Tovar to pop out to second base. This was Adam's second appearance in as many days since being activated from the injured list Friday. He's faced exactly one batter in each outing and has retired both on nine total pitches.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Returns from IL

The Padres reinstated Adam (quadriceps) from the injured list Friday. Adam began the season on a rehab assignment at Triple-A El Paso while finishing up his recovery from offseason quad surgery. He made four appearances in the minors, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out one batter across five shutout innings. The 34-year-old righty has turned in a sub-2.00 ERA in each of the past two seasons but will work mostly in a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller. Jeremiah Estrada (elbow) was placed on the 15-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Makes rehab appearance Saturday

Adam (quadriceps) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in a rehab appearance with Triple-A El Paso on Saturday, allowing one hit without a walk or a strikeout. Saturday marked Adam's first outing in what will likely be a relatively short rehab stint. The veteran reliever retired the side in order in the fourth inning and returned for the fifth, giving up a single and then inducing a flyout prior to being pulled. Adam said Saturday that he'd like to be activated off the IL when first eligible April 6, per Matt Levine of SI.com. He's posted a sub-2.00 ERA in three of the past four regular seasons, so Adam should take on a high-leverage role for San Diego not long after he's back with the big-league club's bullpen.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Will start season on IL

Padres manager Craig Stammen said Monday that Adam (quadriceps) will begin the season on the injured list, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Coming back from surgery last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon, Adam has retired all six batters he's faced this spring. However, Stammen said Monday that the club has "got to be smart" with Adam, who should make his season debut "sometime in April, most likely." Once deemed ready, Adam is slated to fill a setup role in front of closer Mason Miller.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Makes spring debut

Adam (quadriceps) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout against Colorado in a Cactus League appearance Friday. Adam entered in the sixth inning and retired the Rockies in order on 12 pitches. It was the first time the righty reliever has appeared in a game this spring, as he's still working to get fully ramped up following the surgery he underwent early last September to repair a ruptured left quadriceps tendon. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, Adam will aim to make another exhibition appearance Monday, and if that goes well, there's still a chance he could make the Padres' Opening Day roster.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Nearing Cactus League action

Adam (quadriceps) will throw one additional simulated game within the next few days with the goal of pitching in an exhibition over the weekend, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Acee notes that Adam remains on his original timeline after undergoing left quadriceps tendon repair surgery in September. Assuming he's cleared to pitch in a Cactus League game at some point during the weekend, he would then have an opportunity to appear in three or four more games before the 2026 season gets underway. "I felt great," said Adam after taking part in fielding practice Sunday. "It's more the reactive. Like, anytime it's planned, they feel good about it. But the quick reaction, in-game reaction that you can't predict, that's where they're just being more cautious. But we're getting close."

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Could avoid IL stint

Adam (quadriceps) remains on track for Opening Day, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Adam's declaration last week on 97.3 The Fan that he thought he could be ready for the opener seemed like mere optimism. However, it appears he does indeed have a chance to avoid a stint on the injured list, with the reliever noting Friday that the Padres' medical staff was "on board." Recovering from left quadriceps tendon repair surgery, Adam has been throwing bullpens since early December and recently began change-of-direction drills, as well as fielding drills while remaining stationary. He's slated to work as one of closer Mason Miller's main setup men.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Thinks he could be ready for opener

Adam (quadriceps) said Friday that he "absolutely" thinks he could be ready in time for Opening Day, 97.3 The Fan reports. Coming back from left quadriceps tendon repair surgery, Adam has been throwing bullpen sessions but still needs to show he can field his position and run without issue. The reliever said that the "ultimate priority" is to be healthy for the bulk of the season, but he believes he has a chance to be available for Opening Day. Previous estimates have had Adam in line for his season debut around mid-April, and that's probably still the most likely scenario.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Will throw off mound in spring

Adam (quadriceps) is expected to be ready to throw off a mound sometime during spring training, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Adam underwent surgery in September to repair a torn left quad tendon. While it seems a stint on the injured list to begin the 2026 season is likely, Adam might not need to miss much time. The 34-year-old boasts a 1.66 ERA and 101:32 K:BB over 92 regular-season innings during his time with the Padres.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Out at least six months post-surgery

Adam is expected to face a recovery timeline of 6-to-9 months after he underwent surgery Sept. 3 to address a ruptured left quadriceps tendon, MLB.com reports. Adam sustained the season-ending injury during his relief appearance against the Orioles on Sept. 1, when he felt the quad pop while he tried to make a defensive play. Though his surgery seems to have gone off without a hitch, Adam's estimated recovery timeline suggests that he won't be ready to go for the start of spring training in February, and his availability for Opening Day could also be in question. The 34-year-old right-hander, who is under club control through 2026, was a first-time All-Star this season and accrued a 1.93 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 70:25 K:BB to go with eight wins and 30 holds over 65.1 innings before rupturing his quad.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Dealing with quadriceps injury

Adam was diagnosed with a left quadriceps tendon rupture following Monday's 4-3 loss to the Orioles, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. Adam went down with what appeared to be a significant left leg injury with one out in the top of the seventh inning. It is now understood to be a quad issue, and the right-hander will now be sidelined for the foreseeable future. Adam is likely done for the season, and in his absence, Adrian Morejon may be thrust into a more prominent role in the back end of San Diego's bullpen.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Registers 20th hold Sunday

Adam earned a hold against the Rangers on Sunday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one scoreless inning. Adam was summoned from the bullpen with San Diego nursing a two-run lead in the seventh inning and got the job done, working around a two-out single to record a scoreless frame. The right-hander was credited with his 20th hold of the season -- third-most in the majors behind Abner Uribe (25) and Bryan Abreu (22). Adam was named to his first All-Star Game on Sunday as a reward for a dominant campaign during which he's posted a 1.61 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 52:19 K:BB over 44.2 innings spanning 44 appearances.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Records 13th hold

Adam struck out one batter in a perfect inning to notch a hold against Atlanta on Sunday. Adam needed just 10 pitches (seven of which were strikes) to set the side down in order in the eighth inning. He posted the clean frame against the heart of Atlanta's order, striking out Ronald Acuna before getting Drake Baldwin and Marcell Ozuna to ground out. Adam is in the midst of an excellent campaign -- he's tied for the league lead with 13 holds while posting a 1.40 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB through 25.2 innings.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Records fifth hold

Adam earned a hold against the Athletics on Wednesday, issuing one walk and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning. Adam was called upon in eighth inning of a tight 2-1 game. The right-hander successfully protected San Diego's lead, working around a two-out walk and subsequent stolen base by fanning Brent Rooker to close out the frame. Adam has been very impressive to begin the campaign, posting an 11:4 K:BB over 7.1 scoreless innings. He leads the majors with five holds.

  • Padres' Jason Adam: Headed to San Diego

The Padres acquired Adam from the Rays on Sunday in exchange for right-hander Dylan Lesko, outfielder Homer Bush and catcher J.D. Gonzalez, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Adam had shined in a high-leverage role out of the Tampa Bay bullpen this season, logging a 2.49 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 50:16 K:BB across 47 innings while recording four saves and 19 holds. With the Rays, Adam appeared to be next in line for saves behind closer Pete Fairbanks, and he'll likely find himself in a similar spot in the bullpen hierarchy in San Diego. The Padres have leaned on Robert Suarez as their primary closer this season, and he's done nothing to lose job security while rolling to a 1.51 ERA and 23 saves in 26 chances this season.

  • Rays' Jason Adam: Takes loss against Jays

Adam (4-2) allowed four earned runs (two earned) on two walks and two hits while striking out one to take the loss Wednesday against the Blue Jays. Adam entered the game in the eighth inning with the score tied at 2-2. He retired two of the first three batters he faced but let the next three hitters reach, all of whom came around to score on a pair of fielding miscues by the Rays. Adam has allowed five earned runs across his last three innings, but he still has an excellent 2.54 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 46 frames on the campaign.

  • Rays' Jason Adam: Grabs third save

Adam tossed one scoreless inning to pick up the save Monday against the Red Sox. He walked one and struck out three. With Pete Fairbanks unavailable due to a cut on his throwing hand, Adam was called upon Monday to close the door for his third save. Adam, who served as the Rays' main end-game option while Fairbanks was on the shelf prior to his return on May 11, will likely remain the preferred option until Fairbanks is ready to return from his most recent setback.

  • Rays' Jason Adam: Undergoing scans on oblique

Adam was sent for imaging scans on his left oblique after departing Friday's loss to the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. This is ominous news given that Adam just returned Thursday from a three-week injured list stint for a left oblique strain. He said the discomfort is in a different area this time around but acknowledged that it feels more severe. The 32-year-old high-leverage reliever is likely headed back to the IL and could be done for the remainder of 2023.

  • Rays' Jason Adam: Makes return from IL

Adam (oblique) was activated from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports. Adam spent three weeks on the IL with a left oblique strain but is ready to rejoin the Rays' bullpen after throwing off a mound without issue in recent days. He has a 2.57 ERA in 55 appearances and will return to a high-leverage relief role.

  • Rays' Jason Adam: Hoping to return soon

Adam (oblique) is hoping to return from the injured list following the team's current road trip, MLB.com reports. Adam has been sidelined since Aug. 29 and is eligible to return as soon as Sept. 14. While he may not be ready to be activated when first eligible, the team is hoping to get him back in time for a pivotal intra-division series with the Orioles beginning on the 19th. While the target date has been set, it's unclear what steps Adam has taken toward a potential return.
