The Mets signed Ortiz (elbow) to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. Ortiz will miss most, if not all, of the 2025 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so this is likely a two-year minor-league deal. He holds a career 4.76 ERA and 25:16 K:BB across 34 innings covering parts of five seasons at the big-league level.... See More ... See Less

Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Sent outright to Triple-A
The Phillies outrighted Ortiz (elbow) to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Ortiz had Tommy John surgery in July and will miss most, if not all, of the 2025 season. He'll remain in the organization to rehab the injury but is no longer on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Gets Tommy John surgery
Ortiz underwent Tommy John surgery Thursday to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow, MLB.com reports. After spraining his left ankle in his 2024 debut March 30, Ortiz was placed on the injured list a day later. He began a rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater in late April, only to be shut down again after experiencing right shoulder inflammation following his second rehab outing. Ortiz shook off the shoulder injury and resumed his rehab assignment June 11 before being shut down just over a week later with forearm discomfort. The reliever was recommended for surgery after undergoing further testing and will now miss the rest of the season and the majority of the 2025 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Shifts to 60-day IL
The Phillies transferred Ortiz (shoulder/ankle/forearm) to the 60-day injured list Friday, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Ortiz has been out virtually all season with injuries, first to his ankle and more recently to his shoulder and forearm. This transaction doesn't alter his timetable since he's eligible for activation at any time, but it's not clear when Ortiz might be ready to pitch again.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Hurts forearm on rehab assignment
Ortiz (shoulder/ankle) was removed from his rehab appearance Tuesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley due to forearm soreness, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Ortiz was placed on the 15-day injured list March 31 with a sprained left ankle, but he's now picked up new injuries on both of his rehab assignments. He began his initial assignment in late April, only to get shut down after two appearances with Single-A Clearwater due to right shoulder inflammation. He restarted the assignment June 11 and made three appearances before the forearm issue flared up. The severity of the forearm issue isn't yet fully known, but expect Ortiz to get shut down again for some time before he's cleared to start pitching in rehab games.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Building back up after setback
Ortiz (ankle/shoulder) restarted his throwing program May 11 after being pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater, MLB.com reports. Ortiz earned a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen but made just one relief appearance before being placed on the 15-day injured list with a left ankle sprain. He started up a rehab assignment April 23, but he made just two appearances after he experienced inflammation in his right shoulder. The shoulder is likely the greater concern than his ankle at this point, but the fact that he was able to resume throwing just over two weeks after being shut down is an encouraging sign. Ortiz had been gradually increasing his distance while playing catch as of mid-May, but it's unclear if he's since advanced to throwing bullpen sessions or if he's still limited to throwing off flat ground.... Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Starts rehab stint
The Phillies assigned Ortiz (ankle) to Single-A Clearwater on Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment. Ortiz suffered an ankle sprain in his season debut March 30 but is now ready for game action. Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Lands on injured list
The Phillies placed Ortiz on the 15-day injured list due to a left ankle sprain Sunday. Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Exits with sprained ankle
Ortiz was removed from Saturday's game against Atlanta with a left ankle sprain, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Ortiz made made a leaping attempt to catch a ball during the fifth inning and appeared to land awkwardly on his left foot. He came back out to pitch in the sixth but was quickly pulled after giving up two consecutive singles. Further imaging will help determine the severity of Ortiz's injury, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -

The Phillies optioned Ortiz to the Florida Complex League on Saturday. Ortiz came up for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets, and he will now be cast off the active roster after throwing a scoreless inning and striking out two batters in Game 1. Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Up from Triple-A
The Phillies recalled Ortiz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday. As Dylan Covey (back) lands on the injured list for the final days of the regular season, Ortiz will come up from the minors to round out Philadelphia's bullpen. The 28-year-old righty holds a 3.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP through 18 frames in the majors this season and figures to serve in middle relief while with the Phillies.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Headed back to Triple-A

After being called up from Lehigh Valley on Aug. 13, Ortiz made two appearances in relief and scattered three hits and no walks over two scoreless innings.... See More ... See Less -

Ortiz was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley by the Phillies on Sunday. The right-handed Ortiz will provide a multi-inning option for the Philadelphia relief corps while he's on the roster.... See More ... See Less -
Phillies' Luis Ortiz: Gets demoted Monday
The Phillies optioned Ortiz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday. A waiver pickup from the Giants earlier in the offseason, Ortiz wasn't able to earn a spot in the Phillies' Opening Day bullpen despite logging a 2.53 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 10.2 innings in Grapefruit League play. Since he possesses a spot on the 40-man roster and has three prior years of MLB experience, Ortiz will likely get the opportunity to join the big-league bullpen at some point in 2023 if he continues to fare well at Lehigh Valley.... Giants' Luis Ortiz: Contract selected from Triple-A
Ortiz's contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Ortiz spent the start of the 2022 campaign at Sacramento and posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 63.2 innings over 32 appearances (four starts). He hasn't pitched in the majors since 2019 but should serve as a multi-inning option out of the Giants' bullpen following Wednesday's promotion.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Luis A. Ortiz: On injured list in Low-A
Oritz (undisclosed) was assigned to Low-A Delmarva on Friday and placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. It's unclear what kind of injury the 19-year-old southpaw is dealing with. Ortiz allowed nine runs with a 17:6 K:BB in 14.2 innings in rookie ball last season.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Luis Ortiz: Lands with Giants
The Giants signed Ortiz to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
