Creighton coach Greg McDermott, who was reportedly offered the Ohio State job late Wednesday, tweeted early Thursday that he's going to remain at the Big East school.

McDermott, 52, met with Ohio State officials in Omaha on Wednesday night but did not return to Columbus on a private plane with them. A source told CBS Sports early Thursday that McDermott-to-Ohio State was "no slam dunk." McDermott's subsequent tweet confirmed as much.

A source told CBS Sports on Wednesday, before McDermott met with Ohio State, that Chicago Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg was a serious candidate. And multiple sources said there was real interest on both sides. But Hoiberg essentially removed himself from consideration later Wednesday, after details of McDermott's meeting surfaced, telling the Chicago Tribune: "Any time your name is associated with a great job, it's an honor. But I'm [the] head coach of the Bulls [and] have no intention of leaving."

Arizona's Sean Miller, Indiana's Archie Miller, Xavier's Chris Mack and Oklahoma City Thunder coach Billy Donovan -- all of whom were initially listed as candidates by various media outlets earlier in the week -- are no longer considered candidates, a source told CBS Sports. Eddie Fogler is assisting Ohio State in its attempt to replace Thad Matta, a source told CBS Sports. Matta was removed Monday after 13 seasons at the school. OSU athletic director Gene Smith has told two current Ohio State players he plans to have a new coach in place "before the weekend," according to The Columbus Dispatch.
