Phillies' Aaron Nola: Quality start not enough Tuesday

Nola (5-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Mariners after allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings.
Nola turned in a strong performance but was stuck with the loss. He surrendered a solo homer to Cal Raleigh in the second inning but kept Seattle off the board over the next three frames before Josh Naylor's RBI single broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth. Nola has pitched considerably better of late, posting a 2.79 ERA across five starts and 29 innings in August, but Philadelphia's offense provided little support Tuesday. His season ERA dropped from 5.12 to 5.03 with this quality start, and he's lined up to make his next start on the road against the Diamondbacks next week.

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Strikes out eight in win

Nola (5-9) earned the win Wednesday over the Marlins, allowing a run on five hits over seven innings. He struck out eight.
Nola was excellent Wednesday, as he logged eight or more strikeouts for a third straight outing en route to his second consecutive win. Nola has been pitching well of late -- he's posted a 2.51 ERA while striking out 34 across 28.2 innings in his last five starts. He's lowered his ERA to 5.12 across 26 starts (137 innings) this season with a 1.42 WHIP and 146:46 K:BB. Nola's currently lined up to face the Mariners on the road his next time out.
Nola (4-9) earned the win Thursday against the Twins, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out nine over five innings.
Nola threw 58 of his 97 pitches for strikes and secured his first victory since May 26. His lone blemish was a solo homer by Luke Keaschall in the second inning, increasing his MLB-leading total to 30 home runs allowed this season. The right-hander finished on a strong note, recording three strikeouts in the fifth to escape a bases-loaded jam. Nola has now completed at least five innings in eight straight starts while piling up 51 strikeouts across 45 innings during that span. He'll carry a 5.33 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 138:46 K:BB across 130 innings into his next scheduled start Wednesday at home against Miami.
Nola (knee) is listed as the Phillies' probable pitcher Thursday against the Twins in the 2026 MLB at Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa.
Nola sustained a right knee contusion after he was struck by a 104.8-mph comebacker during the sixth inning of his previous start Saturday versus the Blue Jays, but the injury is viewed as a mild concern that won't keep him from making his next turn through the rotation. Though he's continued to strike out more than a batter per inning in his age-33 season, Nola has done more harm than good for fantasy managers. He's notched just three wins in 24 starts and has served up a MLB-high 29 home runs, which has played a large part in inflating both his ERA (5.47) and WHIP (1.45).

Nola was removed from Saturday's game against the Blue Jays after being hit with a comebacker off his lower right leg in the top of the sixth inning, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports.
Jesus Sanchez sent a 104.8-mph line drive up the middle, which struck Nola in the right leg and fell in for an infield single. The 33-year-old threw a couple of warmup pitches after the play, but he was unable to continue. Nola was charged with two earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight before departing.

Nola was removed from his start Saturday against the Blue Jays in the top of the sixth inning due to a right knee contusion, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. He struck out eight and was charged with two earned runs on six hits and two walks over five innings.
Nola allowed his final hit of the night to Jesus Sanchez, who recorded an infield single to lead off the sixth inning after sending a comebacker off the right-hander's knee. X-rays cleared Nola of any structural damage to his knee, but he'll be monitored closely over the next day or two before the Phillies lock him in for his next start. The Phillies are now dealing with multiple injuries in their starting rotation, as Andrew Painter (hamstring) was forced out early in Wednesday's 11-inning loss to the Nationals.

It looked like a rough evening was in store initially for Nola, who surrendered each of his three runs in the first two innings, but he later found his rhythm for a quality start. The 33-year-old has still very sparingly impressed throughout the course of the campaign, as the right-hander has given up at least three runs in 15 of his 23 starts. Nola is set to bring a 5.55 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 121:41 K:BB over 120 innings into a favorable home matchup against Toronto.

Nola entered the fifth inning with a 2-1 lead but allowed a two-run double in the frame before surrendering what proved to be a decisive two-run homer in the sixth. Despite entering the contest having yielded just eight earned runs with two quality starts over his past three outings, the 33-year-old is now 0-3 in July and last recorded a win May 26. He'll take a 5.82 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 112:36 K:BB across 108.1 innings this season and lines up for a road matchup with the Marlins next week.

Nola delivered a quality start but struggled mightily to keep the ball in the yard, serving up three home runs Thursday. The 33-year-old right-hander has had a hard time finding his footing in 2026, having logged only a pair of quality starts since the beginning of June (eight outings) while giving up multiple runs in all but two of his 20 appearances overall. Things are unlikely to get any easier for Nola, who has a 5.68 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 108:35 K:BB over 103 innings, in his next scheduled start against the Dodgers.
Nola didn't factor into the decision Friday, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks over five innings as the Phillies fell 10-2 to the Tigers. He struck out eight.
The veteran right-hander was lifted after 84 pitches (50 strikes) with the score tied 2-2, falling short of his sixth quality start of the season, only to see his bullpen implode. Nola has struggled to put together a consistent stretch of success this season, but he's lasted at least five innings and allowed three runs or fewer in four of his last five outings, posting a 5.47 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB over 26.1 innings during that span.
