Heading into a key season for Brian Gregory and Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets need all the talent they can get.
As a result, Tuesday's announcement that Maryland transfer Charles Mitchell will be immediately eligible for the upcoming season is noteworthy.
“We are thankful that the NCAA has supported and granted Charles’ waiver for immediate eligibility,” Gregory said. “Coming back home to Atlanta will give him the opportunity to assist his family while achieving some tremendous academic and athletic goals.”
Mitchell, a 6-foot-8 power forward, averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds last season at Maryland. He was efficient during his time on the floor, and will help replace double-double threat Robert Carter -- who transferred to Maryland, of all places.
Four other newcomers will help Mitchell in the frontcourt: East Carolina transfer Robert Sampson, the son of Ralph Sampson; Ole Miss transfer Demarco Cox; and freshmen Abdoulaye Gueye and Ben Lammers.
Georgia Tech went 16-17 last season.
