Stars' Jake Oettinger: Starting against Vegas
Oettinger will serve as the starting netminder for Friday's home game against the Golden Knights, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Oettinger has taken some tough-luck losses in recent outings, going 2-2-0 with a 1.53 GAA and .942 save percentage over his last four starts. He'll make his third consecutive start Friday but will face a tough test, as the Golden Knights rank fourth in the NHL with 3.40 goals per game.

Stars' Lian Bichsel: Recalled from AHL
Bichsel was recalled from AHL Texas on Thursday,
Bichsel was returned to the AHL on Dec. 30 and had no points in seven games, giving him three goals and nine points in 28 AHL games this season. The 20-year-old has two goals and 26 hits across eight NHL games this season. Bichsel is likely to be a healthy scratch when the Stars face Vegas on Friday, barring any injuries to their top-six defensemen.

Stars' Matej Blumel: Called back up
Blumel was recalled by the Stars on Thursday.
Blumel has bounced between the AHL and NHL several times over the past few weeks as a cap-saving measure, but he'll rejoin Dallas a day before Friday's home game against the Golden Knights. Over his last six appearances, he's recorded a goal, five hits, a blocked shot and a minus-1 rating while averaging 8:30 of ice time.

Stars' Matej Blumel: Sent back to minors
Blumel was returned to AHL Texas on Wednesday.
Blumel's demotion likely is a cap-saving measure, so fantasy managers can probably expect the winger to be brought back up ahead of Friday's matchup with the Golden Knights. Still, once Mason Marchment (face) returns to the lineup, the 24-year-old Blumel could be left in the minors on a more long-term basis.

Stars' Miro Heiskanen: Hands out assist in loss
Heiskanen produced an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Heiskanen has a helper in consecutive contests and four points over his last eight games. The 25-year-old blueliner hasn't been able to get to his usual level of offense in 2024-25, amassing 22 points over 47 outings. He's added 104 shots on net, 79 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating and continues to see plenty of ice time in a top-pairing role.

Stars' Wyatt Johnston: Extends point streak to five games
Johnston notched an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Johnston set up Thomas Harley's tally in the third period. The helper extended Johnston's point streak to five games (one goal, six assists). The 21-year-old also stayed on the top line Tuesday even with Roope Hintz (upper body) returning to the lineup, though they had similar ice time. For the season, Johnston has 37 points, 121 shots on net, a plus-5 rating, 29 hits and 24 blocked shots over 47 appearances.

Stars' Thomas Harley: Lone goal in Tuesday's loss
Harley scored a goal on two shots and added two hits in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Harley finished a feed from Wyatt Johnston to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the third period, but the Hurricanes retook the lead for good just 24 seconds later. Through 11 outings in January, Harley has racked up three goals, three assists and 27 shots on net. The defenseman has seven tallies, 16 helpers, 102 shots on net, 60 blocked shots and a plus-21 rating through 45 contests overall.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Loses low-scoring game
Oettinger stopped 17 of 19 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes.
Oettinger has lost two of his last five starts despite allowing a total of seven goals in that span. The 26-year-old has had narrow margins for error lately amid a fairly quiet stretch for the Stars' offense. Oettinger dropped to 23-11-1 with a 2.26 GAA and a .914 save percentage through 35 appearances this season. The Stars have a back-to-back up next -- they'll host the Golden Knights on Friday before visiting the Blues on Saturday. Expect Oettinger and Casey DeSmith to split those games.

Stars' Mason Marchment: Not close to return
Marchment (face) participated in Tuesday's morning skate but isn't close to being ready to return to the lineup, per Owen Newkirk of DLLS Sports.
Marchment could return right before or just after the 4 Nations Face-Off. He will miss his 13th straight game against Carolina on Tuesday. The 29-year-old forward has produced 12 goals, 27 points, 44 hits and 80 shots on net across 33 appearances this season. Once healthy, Marchment will be in the mix for a middle-six role in the lineup.

Stars' Roope Hintz: Returning Tuesday
Hintz (upper body) will be back in the lineup against the Hurricanes on Tuesday, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Hintz returns following a three-game absence due to his upper-body issue. Prior to getting hurt, the 28-year-old center had recorded eight goals and two helpers in his last 14 outings, including a pair of power-play tallies. Look for Hintz to get back onto the first line as well as seeing minutes with one of the two power-play units against Carolina.

Stars' Jake Oettinger: Slated to start versus Carolina
Oettinger was the first netminder off at Tuesday's morning skate, indicating he'll draw the home start against the Hurricanes, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Oettinger is coming off a 33-save effort in Sunday's 4-1 win over Detroit. The 26-year-old has been superb through seven outings in January, posting a 6-1-0 record, .932 save percentage and 1.83 GAA. Carolina ranks fifth in the NHL with 3.32 goals per game. The Hurricanes are on the second half of a back-to-back after defeating Chicago 4-3 in overtime Monday.

Stars' Matej Blumel: Brought up from minors
Blumel was elevated from AHL Texas on Tuesday.
Blumel has been yo-yo-ing between levels of late but has seen action in five January games for the Stars. In those appearances, the 24-year-old winger managed one goal on eight shots, five hits and a blocked shot while averaging 9:12 of ice time. Until Mason Marchment (face) is cleared to play, Blumel should continue to log minutes with the big club.

Stars' Justin Hryckowian: Heading to minors
Hryckowian was loaned to AHL Texas on Monday.
Hryckowian was recalled by the Stars on Thursday, and he recorded an assist, five hits and a plus-1 rating while averaging 8:41 of ice time over the last three games. He'll head back to the minors a day after recording his first NHL assist, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him back with Dallas at some point.

Stars' Matej Blumel: Sent to AHL
Blumel was loaned to AHL Texas on Monday.
Blumel scored his first NHL goal of the season against the Red Wings on Sunday, but he'll head back to the minors a day later. The 24-year-old has been shuffled between the AHL and NHL clubs, likely as a cap-saving measure, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him rejoin Dallas ahead of Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Stars' Justin Hryckowian: Earns first career assist
Hryckowian notched an assist and added two hits in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
The 23-year-old forward set up Matej Blumel's tally in the first period. This was Hryckowian's first NHL point over five appearances, and he's added just three shots on net and eight hits. He'll likely remain in a fourth-line role while the Stars are down a couple of forwards, but he could head back to AHL Texas once Roope Hintz (upper body) and Mason Marchment (face) are able to play again.

Stars' Ilya Lyubushkin: Assists in back-to-back games
Lyubushkin posted an assist, four blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Red Wings.
Lyubushkin has followed up a 10-game point drought with a helper in each of the last two contests. This burst of offense is unlikely to last long for the 30-year-old defenseman, who plays in more of a physical role on the Stars' blue line. He has 10 helpers, 26 shots on net, 70 blocked shots, 51 hits and a plus-8 rating through 46 appearances. Lyubushkin's career high in points is 15 from the 2021-22 campaign he split between the Coyotes and the Maple Leafs, and he's in a position to top that number in 2024-25.
