Top Cal O'Reilly News

  • Predators' Cal O'Reilly: Attending camp on tryout

O'Reilly was invited to attend Nashville's training camp on a professional tryout agreement Tuesday.

O'Reilly produced 10 goals and 30 points in 69 games with AHL Milwaukee during the 2023-24 campaign before adding two tallies and four assists in 15 playoff contests. He signed a one-year AHL contract with the Admirals in July and will likely return to the minors for the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Cal O'Reilly: Cut from camp

O'Reilly was assigned to AHL Milwaukee on Sunday.

O'Reilly, who was with the Predators on a camp invite, signed a one-year deal with the Admirals in July. He had five goals and 18 points in 59 games for AHL Lehigh Valley last season.

  • Flyers' Cal O'Reilly: Lands on waivers

O'Reilly was waived by Philadelphia on Friday, Adam Kimelman of NHL.com reports.

O'Reilly was attending the Flyers' training camp on a professional tryout offer, but he evidently didn't do enough to secure a one-way contract with the big club. He'll head to AHL Lehigh Valley if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

  • Flyers' Cal O'Reilly: Secures PTO with Flyers

O'Reilly signed a professional tryout offer with Philadelphia on Monday.

O'Reilly has 145 career NHL games under his belt but he hasn't suited up for an NHL contest since the 2017-18 campaign when he made one appearance with the Wild. Last season, he racked up 21 goals and 53 points with AHL Lehigh Valley. With so many injuries to the Flyers' forward group at the moment, O'Reilly could secure a depth role to begin the season.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Returned to bus league

Minnesota reassigned O'Reilly to AHL Iowa on Tuesday.

Matt Hendricks (upper body) appears to be nearing a return to the lineup, so the Wild are no longer in need of O'Reilly's services as a depth forward. The 32-year-old American will return to a prominent role with AHL Iowa, where he's racked up 38 points in 43 appearances this campaign.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Promoted to parent club

O'Reilly was recalled from AHL Iowa on Monday.

O'Reilly has 38 points with AHL Iowa this season but has appeared in just one NHL contest in the last two seasons. The 32-year-old could make the lineup during this stint with the big club as Minnesota has several injuries in the forward department.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Added from AHL Iowa

O'Reilly received a call for promotion from AHL Iowa on Thursday.

While O'Reilly wasn't among the original wave of recalls from AHL Iowa, he will now join some of his AHL teammates in the press box as the Wild attempt to fend off elimination in Game 5. O'Reilly has a long history of floating between the two levels, but he's past the point in his career where he could be considered a breakout candidate for fantasy purposes.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Sent to AHL Iowa

O'Reilly was sent back to AHL Iowa on Sunday.

O'Reilly only skated for one game with Minnesota, throwing one shot on goal. The 31-year-old has bounced around from the show to the AHL often during his career, and will likely continue to do so during 2017-18.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Recalled from minors

O'Reilly was called up from AHL Iowa on Saturday.

Through his first five games in the minors, O'Reilly has notched one goal and two assists. Injuries continue to pile up for the Wild, especially at the forward position, which likely precipitated the need to bring up the center. The 31-year-old will make his debut for Minnesota against Calgary on Saturday.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Hits waiver wire

Minnesota placed O'Reilly on waivers Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

O'Reilly posted impressive numbers in the AHL last season, racking up 50 points in 62 games, but the 30-year-old forward has never been able to translate success in the minors to success in the NHL. He'll spend the majority of the 2017-18 campaign with the Wild's AHL affiliate, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him draw into a few contests with the big club this the season.

  • Wild's Cal O'Reilly: Inks two-year, two-way deal with Minnesota

O'Reilly signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Wild on Saturday, TSN reports. The deal is worth $700,000 in the NHL and $375,000 in the minors.

The NHL payout for O'Reilly is the same amount as his last deal with the Sabres, but the difference with the Wild buying into him is that he'll receive just over half of that figure if he's ultimately sent to AHL Iowa. O'Reilly only produced one goal with a minus-6 rating in 11 games at hockey's highest level last season, but managed nine goals and 33 assists over a 47-game span with AHL Rochester.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Clears waivers

O'Reilly, who has placed on waivers Thursday, was not claimed by any team, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.

It's not exactly surprising, though the last time the Sabres waived their fourth-line center, Derek Grant, the Predators claimed him. Through 11 games with the Sabres, O'Reilly has not made much of an impact, averaging 7:56 per game and registering just one assist with a minus-6 rating. It's a big drop from last year, when he scored seven points in 20 games for the Sabres while averaging 11:11 per game, including 1:57 on the power play. The Sabres are looking for quality depth, and it's clear O'Reilly isn't part of the solution. His fantasy remains almost nil.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Placed on waivers

O'Reilly will not play Thursday against the Rangers and has been waived, the Olean Times Herald reports.

O'Reilly hasn't produced much since getting called up from AHL Rochester, producing just one assist in seven games. He played less than five minutes against Dallas prior to the All-Star break and a little over six minutes against Montreal on Tuesday. There's a chance O'Reilly will get claimed, but the goal is to return to him to the Amerks. Nicolas Deslauriers will take his place as the fourth-line center with Tyler Ennis and William Carrier on the wings.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Recalled from minors

O'Reilly was brought up from AHL Rochester on Monday.

O'Reilly has fared significantly better in the minors this season, as he has racked up 34 points in 36 outings -- second highest on the team. In the NHL, however, the 30-year-old has appeared in a mere four contests and failed to secure a single point. With Johan Larsson (wrist) done for the year, O'Reilly figures to be the Sabres' fourth-line center for a decent stretch, so long as he keeps his level of play up.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Demoted to minors

The Sabres assigned O'Reilly to AHL Rochester on Saturday.

O'Reilly's demotion suggests Jack Eichel (ankle) may be ready to return to the Sabres' lineup as soon as Tuesday against the Senators. However, if Eichel isn't available for that contest, O'Reilly will likely once again be recalled to the big club to round out Buffalo's depth at forward. The 30-year-old pivot has failed to tally a single point in four games with the Sabres this season.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Recalled from AHL

O'Reilly was recalled from AHL Rochester on Saturday.

With the demotions of Evan Rodrigues and Nicholas Baptiste on Friday, it would appear that the 5-8-4 Sabres are trying to shake things up with the promotions of O'Reilly and Cole Schneider. The 30-year-old pivot hasn't played in the NHL yet this year and hasn't scored more than seven points in a season since the 2010-11 campaign, so he isn't exactly a hot fantasy commodity.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Clears waivers, heads to AHL

O'Reilly was placed on waivers Friday and cleared Saturday, which means he'll head to AHL Rochester, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.

Despite scoring seven points in 20 games for the Sabres last year, O'Reilly will once again start the season in the AHL. The AHL journeyman is a useful two-way player who can play left wing or center, but seems to have been beaten out by Derek Grant for a roster spot. However, he'll be one of the Sabres' first options for a call-up should the need arise.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Assigned to AHL Rochester

O'Reilly cleared waivers and was sent to AHL Rochester on Tuesday.

O'Reilly will get just three games in the AHL before Rochester's season ends as they too have been eliminated from playoff contention. The center had two goals and an assist in his last three contests for the Sabres, yet, it remains to be seen whether or not the 29-year-old will earn a full time spot in Buffalo next year.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Placed on waivers

O'Reilly was waived Monday, reports TVA's Renaud Lavoie.

O'Reilly was waived for the purposes of sending him to AHL Rochester. With a $700,000 price tag for next season, regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or AHL, it's unlikely O'Reilly will be claimed. He appeared in 20 games with the Sabres this season, scoring three goals and seven points while averaging 11:11 of ice time per game.

  • Sabres' Cal O'Reilly: Bolsters offense in win

O'Reilly scored on a power play and at even strength in Thursday's 4-1 win over Toronto.

O'Reilly hadn't managed a point game since March 7, a stretch of eight games, but he broke out in a big way Thursday. The 29-year-old got to play on the Sabres' top power-play unit along with his brother Ryan O'Reilly and star rookie Jack Eichel. After a game like this, he could see more time on that unit as the Sabres try to evaluate his potential for next season.
