Suzuki was recalled Thursday as Taylor Hall and Sebastian Aho were unavailable to play due to an illness. Suzuki made his NHL debut and had a plus-1 rating in 6:12 of action. Suzuki (shoulder) was activated off the non-roster, injured reserve and reassigned to AHL Tuscon on Thursday, per Cory Lavalette of the North State Journal.
Suzuki suffered the injury during the preseason and missed the start of the 2023-24 campaign as a result. The 22-year-old had 13 goals and 32 points in 50 contests with AHL Chicago last season. He'll get back up to speed in the minors, but if all goes well, Suzuki might get an opportunity to make his NHL debut before the end of the campaign. The Hurricanes took him with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Hurricanes' Ryan Suzuki: Closing in on return
Suzuki (shoulder) is expected to return to action soon as coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters Wednesday, "I think they're really close to playing, if not about to play," per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
Given his extended absence, Suzuki could be in line for some minutes in the minors on a conditioning assignment, though Carolina doesn't currently have an AHL affiliate which will complicate matters. Eventually, once given the all-clear to suit up, Suzuki could challenge for a spot on the 23-man roster despite having yet to make his NHL debut.

Per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site, coach Rod Brind'Amour said Friday that Suzuki (shoulder) is not close to returning to action.
It was thought the injury suffered Oct. 7 was not serious, but according to Brind'Amour, Suzuki is 'still a ways away' from returning to action. Suzuki has yet to play in the NHL. The 22-year-old was selected 28th overall in the 2019 Draft. Suzuki had 13 goals and 32 points in 50 games with AHL Chicago last season.

Suzuki's likely to be a mainstay of future Hurricanes lineups, but he's too raw to realistically get a shot during this playoff run.
