  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Nabs power-play apple in defeat

Seider compiled a power-play assist, five shots on goal, eight hits and two takeaways in 24:21 of ice time in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Lightning.

Seider helped out on Lucas Raymond's marker on the man advantage in an eventful second period that saw a combined five goals. Seider has assists in back-to-back games and three of his last four, but he hasn't found the back of the net since Dec. 14. The right-shot blueliner has covered for the lack of goal scoring with eight helpers through as many games in January. On the season, Detroit's No. 1 defenseman has provided four goals and 28 points through 45 contests.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Banks pair of apples Sunday

Seider posted two power-play assists in Sunday's 6-2 win over Seattle.

Seider recorded secondary assists on power-play goals by Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin in a blowout victory Sunday. Seider added four shots, two hits, one blocked shot and a minus-1 rating in a team-high 23:31 of ice time. While the 23-year-old has been productive in January with six helpers through five games, he hasn't found the back of the net since Dec. 14. Nevertheless, Seider's consistency is commendable, and in his fourth NHL campaign, the German blueliner has never missed a game, which is even more impressive. Seider is up to four goals, 26 points and an even plus-minus rating through 42 outings.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Joins elite club

Seider scored a goal Saturday in a 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs.

Seider knocked in a pass after a turnover at center ice to earn his 150th NHL point (25 goals, 125 assists). He is the sixth player and first defenseman from the 2019 NHL Entry Draft to hit that mark. Seider joined Jack Hughes, Matt Boldy, Dylan Cozens, Cole Caufield and Trevor Zegras in the 150 club. The 23-year-old Seider has put up two consecutive 42-point seasons and is on track to match that mark this campaign. He has four goals, 12 assists and 60 shots through 30 appearances in 2024-25.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Two points in shootout win

Seider scored a goal and added an assist in Monday's 6-5 shootout win over the Sabres.

After setting up an Andrew Copp tally in the first period, Seider forced OT with a goal of his own late in the third when he wired a shot through traffic from the faceoff dot past James Reimer. The performance ended a five-game point drought for the blueliner, and through 28 contests on the season, Seider has picked up three goals and 15 points while adding 76 hits, 59 blocked shots, 54 shots on net, 20 PIM and a plus-4 rating.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Two points in win Monday

Seider scored a goal and added an assist in Monday's 4-2 win over the Islanders.

Seider snapped a four-game pointless streak with this strong showing Monday, where he scored late in the first period before setting up Lucas Raymond's game-winning goal midway through the third frame. That said, Seider has struggled with consistency. Despite playing in the top defensive pairing, the 23-year-old has failed to crack the scoresheet in seven of his last 10 games. Undoubtedly, that lack of consistency limits his upside in most formats.

The 23-year-old defenseman is producing at a solid pace so far with a goal, nine assists, 29 shots on net, 49 hits, 38 blocked shots, 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 16 outings. He's on a full-season pace to reach the 50-point mark for the first time since his rookie year.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: First goal of season Thursday

Seider scored a goal in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers.

Seider found the back of the net for the first time this season with a wrister in the early stages of the second period, but his goal didn't spark a comeback for the Red Wings. Seider has been productive to start the campaign and has recorded points in three of his first four outings in 2024-25, but that shouldn't be much of a surprise, as he's notched at least 42 points in his first three years in the league. Seider figures to remain an offensive contributor for the Red Wings this year.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Gets physical in win

Seider recorded an assist, eight hits, seven blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Predators.

Seider offered excellent category coverage for fantasy managers in this contest. The 23-year-old blueliner has two assists, four shots on net, eight blocked shots and 15 hits through two contests. While he hasn't elevated his offense to an elite level yet, Seider is reliable thanks to his power-play production while also being a threat for 200 each of hits and blocks, making him a well-rounded option for fantasy.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Agrees to seven-year contract

Seider signed a seven-year, $59.85 million contract with the Red Wings on Thursday.

Seider was a restricted free agent, and this agreement, along with locking Lucas Raymond up to an eight-year, $64.6 million contract Monday, puts Detroit's books in order going into the 2024-25 campaign. As is the case with Raymond's deal, Seider's cap hit ($8.55 million) looks solid now for what he brings to the table and could become tremendous value as he continues to develop and the salary cap increases further. The 23-year-old defenseman had nine goals and 42 points in 82 contests last season, making it the third straight campaign in which he surpassed the 40-point mark. Seider is expected to enter the season as a member of Detroit's top four and receive steady work with the man advantage.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Lights lamp in season finale

Seider scored a goal in the regular-season finale Tuesday, a 5-4 shootout win over the Canadiens.

Winged Wheel fans won't get to see how Seider would fare in the playoffs, at least not this year, as Detroit was eliminated from playoff contention by virtue of the Capitals defeating the Flyers on Tuesday. Still, it was another strong regular-season campaign for the fiery young defenseman who just cashed out the balance of his entry-level contract with the Wings. Seider registered a career-high nine goals to complement 33 assists in 2023-24, matching his point total from last season. He remained a force on the man advantage based on three goals and 14 assists, and his defensive contributions were rock solid as well, as Seider blocked 213 shots and delivered 210 hits. Risk-averse fantasy managers will likely place a premium on Seider during next year's drafts since the durable defenseman has yet to miss a game.

  • Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Tacks on assist

Seider posted an assist in Thursday's 6-5 overtime loss to the Penguins.

Seider teed up fellow defenseman Jeff Petry for a slap shot that brushed twine and narrowed the deficit to 4-3 in the second period. Unfortunately, Seider's produced just two multi-point games since the beginning of March, and with three games to go in the regular season, it's going to take something close to a miracle for him to match the 50-point rookie output that resulted in him winning the Calder Trophy following the 2021-22 campaign. Nonetheless, the German blueliner is still producing at a solid level for fantasy managers.
