Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Spared loss after quick hook
Dobes gave up three goals on eight shots in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.
Dobes was pulled for Sam Montembeault after giving up a goal to Brayden Point early in the second period. The Canadiens managed to cover the damage against Dobes, sparing him the loss despite his poor performance. He's still winless in his last four outings with 15 goals allowed in that span after opening his career with five straight wins. Dobes is at 5-2-1 with a 2.71 GAA and a .908 save percentage through nine appearances. While his hot start earned him some attention, he should be treated like any other backup goalie on a mediocre team for fantasy purposes.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Lightning on Sunday
Dobes will patrol the home crease versus Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Sam Montembeault will start against the Devils on Saturday, leaving Sunday's start to Dobes. Dobes has struggled in his last three starts, going 0-2-1 and allowing 12 goals on 106 shots (.887 save percentage). Dobes won his first five starts in the NHL and is 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage. The Lightning could give Dobes all sorts of problems as Tampa Bay is generating 3.49 goals per game, third in the NHL this season.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Torched for five goals
Dobes allowed five goals on 36 shots in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Kings. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.
The Kings had a 2-1 lead through two periods before the game opened in the third, and Dobes couldn't keep pace. He's now given up 12 goals while going 0-2-1 over his last three outings. He's 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage through eight NHL starts. The 23-year-old has played well enough at times to earn a little leeway, especially since Cayden Primeau had virtually no good moments during his time in the NHL to begin the season. The Canadiens have a home back-to-back prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off break with games against the Devils on Saturday and the Lightning on Sunday. Sam Montembeault and Dobes are likely to split that pair of tough matchups.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Kings
Dobes will guard the road goal versus the Kings on Wednesday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Sam Montembeault handled the goaltending duties in a 4-3 win over the Sharks on Tuesday. After winning his first five games, Dobes has allowed seven goals on 70 shots while going 0-1-1 over his last two outings. This could be a tough matchup for the Canadiens to generate offense, but the Kings have scored just 10 times over their last six games, so Dobes may not have too much trouble.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Takes first regulation loss
Dobes allowed three goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Wild.
It took seven games into his NHL career for Dobes to pick up his first regulation loss. He didn't get much help from his teammates on the first two goals. Alexandre Carrier knocked the stick out of his hands, and Liam Ohgren scored seconds later. Two minutes later, a defensive breakdown led to a two-on-one rush and to a Marco Rossi tally. Dobes has been a good story since being called up in late December, but the rookie has allowed 11 goals over his last three starts and lost two straight. Montreal has two days off before beginning a road trip in Anaheim on Sunday.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Expected starter for Thursday
Dobes is set to start at home against the Wild on Thursday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
Dobes has a 5-0-1 record, 1.93 GAA and .933 save percentage in six appearances in 2024-25. He suffered his first career NHL loss Saturday when he stopped 40 of 44 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss to New Jersey. Minnesota ranks 18th in goals per game with 2.92.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: First loss of NHL career Saturday
Dobes stopped 40 of 44 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Dobes had been a revelation early in his NHL career, as he had a perfect 5-0-0 record with a 1.55 GAA and a .941 save percentage over the first five outings of his career before losing Saturday. Even with the loss, Dobes earned his team a valuable standings point with his 40-save effort. The promising 23-year-old netminder is still behind Sam Montembeault on the depth chart, but Dobes' early success makes him a viable fantasy option whenever he's called to defend the Canadiens' crease.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Remains undefeated
Dobes stopped 23 of 27 shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Rangers.
Dobes struggled for the first time at the NHL level but still came away with a fifth straight win to start his career. His four goals allowed Sunday matched the total the 23-year-old had given up over his first four outings combined. The Rangers were unable to hold any of their one-goal leads, and Patrik Laine finished off the game with the overtime winner. Dobes has posted a 1.55 GAA and a .940 save percentage at the NHL level so far. Those numbers are bound to regress as he gets more playing time, but he should have no trouble maintaining the backup role for the Canadiens, and he's played well enough to afford Sam Montembeault a bit more rest.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Tending twine Sunday
Dobes will be between the home pipes versus the Rangers on Sunday, per Colin Stephenson of Newsday.
Dobes has been excellent through the first four starts of his NHL career, posting a perfect 4-0-0 record, .963 save percentage and 0.98 GAA. He made 32 saves in a 3-1 road victory over Dallas on Thursday. The Rangers have played well lately, going 5-0-2 in their last seven contests.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Wins again
Dobes stopped 32 of 33 shots in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Dobes let a juicy rebound escape that Jason Robertson put behind him early in the first period, but that was it. Falling behind is no longer the death sentence it used to be for the Canadiens, whose .833 point percentage since the NHL returned from its holiday break ranks second in the league. The lines have been resilient and goaltending elite (2.11 goals allowed per game), including the unflappable Dobes. Dallas poured it on the final two periods, outshooting the Canadiens, 26-13, but Dobes was impressive once again. He's won all four starts to begin his NHL career, and they haven't been cheapies. The rookie has taken down Florida, Colorado, Washington and now Dallas. The Habs have a back-to-back set at home this weekend with games Saturday (Maple Leafs) and Sunday (Rangers). Dobes should get one of those starts.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Facing Stars
Dobes will patrol the road crease in Dallas on Thursday.
Dobes is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 0.97 GAA and a .959 save percentage to begin his NHL career. The 23-year-old has won all three games on the road, including wins over Florida, Colorado and Washington, not exactly the pushovers of the NHL. He will have another tough test, as the Stars are tied for sixth in the NHL overall standings with 57 points, while averaging 3.21 goals per game this season, which ranks ninth in the league.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Bags third win
Dobes stopped 15 of 17 shots in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Capitals.
Dobes wasn't terribly busy but did his job in securing a third win in three starts. All three victories have come against stiff NHL competition, including a couple of recent Stanley Cup champs (Florida, Colorado). He's allowed just three goals on 74 shots since being called up from AHL Laval. Montreal is back in action Saturday when it hosts the Stars.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Starting Friday
Dobes will be between the visiting pipes in Washington on Friday, Stu Cowen of The Montreal Gazette reports.
Dobes' NHL career has gotten off to a scintillating start, shutting out the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers 4-0, while making 34 saves in his NHL debut, and following that up with a 22-save performance in a 2-1 shootout win over Colorado. Dobes will face the Capitals, who are scoring 3.66 goals per game in 2024-25.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Beats Avalanche
Dobes stopped 22 of 23 shots in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the Avalanche.
After shutting out Florida in his NHL debut a week ago, Dobes was nearly perfect against Colorado, limiting the Avalanche to a first-period power-play goal to earn his second win in as many NHL starts. He's given up just one goal on 57 shots while taking down a couple of legit NHL powerhouses; the Avs entered the contest having won six straight and were 11-3-0 since Dec. 1. The Canadiens discovered themselves on a six-game road trip, during which it went 4-2-0, beating Florida, Tampa Bay, Vegas and Colorado. If the head coach doesn't stick with Dobes' hot hand for Monday's game against Vancouver, then his next start will likely come during a back-to-back set next weekend, either Friday at Washington or Saturday at home against Dallas.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Set to start Saturday
Dobes will guard the road goal against Colorado on Saturday.
Dobes earned a 34-save shutout in his NHL debut last Saturday en route to a 4-0 victory against Florida. The Panthers are one of the league's best teams, and the Avalanche are a similarly difficult assignment. Colorado is 24-15-0 and ranks fifth in goals per game with 3.46.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Earns shutout in NHL debut
Dobes stopped all 34 shots faced in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Panthers.
Dobes, who was called up from AHL Laval on Friday, shut out the Stanley Cup champs in his NHL debut a day later. Florida out-chanced the Canadiens (25-11), but Dobes looked like a seasoned veteran. In a corresponding move Friday, Montreal placed former backup goalie Cayden Primeau on waivers, and it looks like Dobes will work as the backup to Sam Montembeault going forward. Montembeault will start Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Expected starter for Saturday
Dobes is set to start on the road against Florida on Saturday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
It will be Dobes' NHL debut. He has a 2.44 GAA and a .910 save percentage in 14 outings with AHL Laval in 2024-25. Cayden Primeau is set to be put on waivers Saturday, so it appears Dobes will be with the Canadiens for the foreseeable future. The Panthers will be a challenging first opponent -- Florida ranks sixth in goals per game with 3.44.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Recalled from AHL
Dobes was called up from AHL Laval on Friday.
The 23-year-old netminder will travel with the Canadiens on their two-game road trip to the state of Florida. Dobes was 9-3-1 with a 2.44 GAA and a .910 save percentage across 14 appearances with Laval. There is no word as to whether Sam Montembeault or Cayden Primeau is hurt, but the move gives the Canadiens a full complement of 23 players on their roster.

Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: Sent down Monday
Dobes was sent down to AHL Laval on Monday.
Dobes drew a preseason start against Toronto on Sept. 26 and allowed two goals on 34 shots. Despite his solid performance in the defeat, he'll head to the AHL ahead of the regular season, and he'll likely spend most, if not all, of the year in the minors.
