Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Season officially over
Kastelic (upper body), as expected, won't return during the 2024-25 campaign, Joe Haggerty of Boston Sports Journal reports Thursday.
Considering Kastelic was previously deemed out indefinitely, the news that he won't return this year shouldn't come as a surprise. Prior to his absence, the 26-year-old center had managed just one point across his last 17 outings. With his season over, Kastelic will end the year with five goals and nine helpers in 61 games. Kastelic signed a three-year contract extension with the Bruins in January, so he'll attempt to build upon his results during the 2025-26 campaign.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Out indefinitely
Kastelic (upper body) has no timeline to return to the lineup, Andrew Fantucchio of Boston Hockey Now reports Tuesday, effectively ruling him out indefinitely.
Kastelic has already missed four games due to his upper-body injury and now could be in danger of missing the rest of the 2024-25 campaign -- though he hasn't been officially ruled out at this time. Considering the forward has just one point in his last 16 contests, few fantasy players will be impacted by his extended absence.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Unavailable for road trip
Kastelic (upper body) will miss the remaining four games of Boston's road trip, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe on Saturday.
Kastelic returned to Boston to undergo evaluations. He has compiled five goals, 14 points, 67 shots on net, 218 hits and 106 PIM in 61 appearances this season. Due to Kastelic's absence, Fabian Lysell will presumably play against the Sharks on Saturday.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: First goal since Dec. 19
Kastelic scored a goal Saturday in a 4-0 win over the Lightning.
The goal was a fluke that will be on the highlight reel for the wrong reasons. Kastelic fired a shot from outside the blue line that may not have hit the net but deflected off Darren Raddysh's stick and caught Andrei Vasilevskiy out of position. It was Kastelic's first goal and third point since Dec. 19 (23 games).

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Available against Wild
Kastelic (upper body) will be an option versus Minnesota on Tuesday, Scott McLaughlin of WEEI reports.
Kastelic is far from guaranteed a spot in the lineup against the Wild and will have to edge out the likes of John Beecher or Oliver Wahlstrom. When healthy, the 25-year-old Kastelic has logged 45 games for Boston, in which he has registered four goals and nine assists -- setting a new personal best with 13 points. Given the coach's comments, it's safe to assume Kastelic will be officially activated from injured reserve prior to Tuesday's game.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Still sidelined Saturday
Kastelic (upper body) will not be available versus the Rangers on Saturday, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.
Kastelic will miss his sixth straight game due to his lingering undisclosed injury. The 25-year-old center has been practicing in a regular sweater but is running out of time to suit up before the NHL shuts down for the 4 Nations Face-Off. Once given the all-clear, Kastelic will undoubtedly be eager to end his 12-game goal drought that dates back to Dec. 19 versus the Oilers.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Practicing in regular sweater
Kastelic (undisclosed) was sporting a regular jersey at Thursday's game-day skate but won't be ready to face the Jets, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.
Despite being ruled out versus Winnipeg, the fact that Kastelic has evidently been cleared for contact should be considered a step in the right direction. It will be the 25-year-old center's fifth consecutive game on the shelf due to his undisclosed injury. Even when healthy, Kastelic has offered minimal offensive upside, having failed to find the back of the net in 12 straight appearances while registering just 11 shots and two assists.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Lands on IR
Kastelic (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Kastelic suited up in Boston's last two games after missing back-to-back contests with an upper-body injury, but he did not play in the third period of Monday's 6-3 win over the Sharks. It's unclear if his placement on IR is a result of a re-aggravation of his previous injury, but he'll now be sidelined for at least a week. Patrick Brown and Max Jones were recalled from AHL Providence on Tuesday to fill out the Bruins' forward group.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Helper against former team
Kastelic notched an assist, four hits, two blocked shots and five PIM in Saturday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Senators.
Kastelic returned from a brief stint on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. The 25-year-old didn't hesitate to mix things up, playing a physical game that included a fight with Zack Ostapchuk in the second period. Kastelic has reached marks he never achieved over three years in Ottawa, earning 13 points, 171 hits, 86 PIM, 53 shots on net and a plus-2 rating over 44 appearances in his first year with the Bruins. He continues to function as a fourth-line enforcer.

Kastelic will return to Ottawa for the first time since being dealt in the offseason in the Linus Ullmark trade. Look for Kastelic to play on the fourth line alongside Justin Brazeau and John Beecher.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Moves to IR
Kastelic (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Kastelic will not play in Tuesday's game against Tampa Bay. Kastelic's move to the IR list allowed the Bruins to recall Matthew Poitras from the minors to potentially replace Charlie Coyle, who is dealing with an illness. Coyle will be a game-time decision. Kastelic is currently day-to-day, and a timeline for his return is still unclear.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Out Saturday
Kastelic (undisclosed) won't play Saturday against Florida, Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic reports.

He has four goals and 12 points through his first 43 contests with Boston. Marc McLaughlin will replace Kastelic in Saturday's lineup.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Pockets assist Sunday
Kastelic registered an assist and four hits in Sunday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Islanders.
Kastelic signed a three-year extension with the Bruins on Friday to solidify his place in the team's bottom six. He snapped a seven-game point drought with the helper Sunday, though he remains fairly limited on offense. The 25-year-old forward has a career-high 12 points with 48 shots on net, 76 PIM, 158 hits and a plus-4 rating over 41 appearances, serving as an enforcer while averaging 11:26 of ice time per game.

Kastelic signed a three-year, $4.701 million contract extension with the Bruins on Friday.

The 25-year-old forward has four goals, 11 points, 76 PIM and 151 hits in 39 outings. He's likely to continue to serve in a bottom-six capacity through the life of his new contract.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Snaps goal drought Thursday
Kastelic found the back of the net on four shots and added two hits and a minus-1 rating in 8:48 of ice time in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Oilers.
Kastelic cut to the middle of the ice and lifted one past Stuart Skinner on the backhand to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, but that was the last of Boston's offense in the contest. Kastelic had been mired in a 23-game goal drought -- his last marker before Thursday came in a 4-3 win over Toronto on Oct. 26. The Arizona native is known for his physical play, but he's offered solid depth production in 2024-25 with four goals and 11 points through 33 games. The 25-year-old is one point shy of setting a new career high.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Generates assist Saturday
Kastelic logged an assist, two shots on goal, five hits and two PIM in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flyers.
Kastelic has three helpers over four games in December after going without a point in November. The 25-year-old power forward has been a physical force this season with 115 hits through 28 contests, and he's also collected 10 points to put himself one shy of his career high. He's added 50 PIM, 27 shots on net and a plus-8 rating. Kastelic's consistency is still a little shaky, but he appears set to have something of a breakout year, with enough physicality to carry value in deeper formats.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Snaps lengthy drought
Kastelic logged two assists, two shots, one block, five hits and 12 PIM in Sunday's 6-3 win over Montreal.
Like several Boston skaters, Kastelic snapped a drought of some sort in the win. His was a 13-game stretch without a point. He set up the first of Charlie Coyle's two goals, then helped on an empty-net goal. Kastelic also engaged with Montreal's Arber Xhekaj midway through the second period, and each was assessed roughing and misconduct penalties. The fourth-year forward is second on the Bruins with 48 PIM and leads the club with 99 hits.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Expected to play Thursday
Kastelic (lower body) is set to play Thursday against Utah.
Kastelic missed Monday's 5-1 loss to Columbus due to the injury. He has three goals, seven points, 24 PIM and 75 hits in 19 appearances in 2024-25. Kastelic's offensive contributions came early in the campaign -- he has just a goal and an assist across his past 15 outings -- and he's projected to center the fourth line Thursday, so Kastelic isn't a great source of points.

Bruins' Mark Kastelic: Hoping to play Thursday
Kastelic (lower body) won't be in the lineup versus the Jackets on Monday but could be ready for Thursday's game versus Utah, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.
Kastelic's lower-body injury doesn't appear to be serious if he is only going to miss one full game after leaving Saturday's matchup with the Blues. Through 19 games this season, the 25-year-old center has managed three goals and four helpers without the benefit of power-play ice time. Without Kastelic in the lineup, Boston recalled Jeffrey Viel from AHL Providence and will slot him into a fourth-line role against Columbus.
