LaCombe earned his first shorthanded point of the season when he set up a Frank Vatrano tally in the first period. The 24-year-old LaCombe is playing a large role in all situations this season, and he's done a good job to emerge as arguably the top defenseman on Anaheim's roster. He's now at 24 points, 90 shots on net, 76 blocked shots, 33 hits and a plus-4 rating through 44 appearances.

LaCombe helped out on the second of Mason McTavish's tallies in the win. The assist ended a five-game point drought for LaCombe. That matches his longest slump of the season -- he's gone five games without a point on three separate occasions. The 24-year-old defenseman is still prone to ups and downs as a young player on a team that doesn't always score consistently. He's done a lot well in 2024-25, with eight goals, 13 assists, 87 shots on net, 73 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating through 42 appearances.

While the plus-minus could fall out at any moment given the Ducks' struggles, LaCombe looks like the real deal on offense.

LaCombe scored for the first time since Dec. 14, though he had four helpers over eight games between goals. It appears he's earned his way to a more secure role -- his last scratch was Dec. 11, while Pavel Mintyukov and Olen Zellweger have been the most frequent blueliners to sit out in recent weeks. LaCombe has impressed in a top-four role with seven goals, 15 points (three on the power play), 56 shots on net, 52 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 31 contests. He needs just two points to match his total from 71 games last season.

With Cam Fowler having been traded to the Blues earlier in the day, the Ducks' young blueliners will need to step up, and that's exactly what LaCombe did Saturday. The 23-year-old helped set up Mason McTavish for the game's opening tally late in the first period, then LaCombe potted the tying goal with a blast from the point through traffic late in the third. While he has only 10 points in 22 appearances on the season, more than half of his production -- four goals and two helpers -- has come in his last six games.
