Lyon made his first appearance since Dec. 29 after missing nine games with a lower-body injury and being the backup of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on Monday against the Hurricanes. Lyon backed up Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on Monday versus the Hurricanes, and now he'll make his return to the crease a day later. Lyon had missed nine games due to a lower-body injury. Given Luukkonen's strong play in Lyon's absence, the Sabres' crease is likely to be a timeshare moving forward.

Josh Norris (ribs) was put on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Lyon has a 10-6-3 record, 2.82 GAA and .906 save percentage in 21 outings in 2025-26. Now that he's healthy, Lyon will resume competing for starts with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis. Lyon could be regarded as the No. 1 option, but none of Buffalo's goaltenders are likely to be used as regularly as a typical starter as long as all three are on the active roster.

According to Lenzi, Lyon could be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the next four games. Buffalo begins a five-game road trip against Carolina on Monday. Lyon has missed nine straight outings and remains on injured reserve for now.
