  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Caps off productive campaign

Maatta posted four goals, 14 assists, 96 blocked shots and a team-leading plus-14 rating through 72 games this season.

Maatta didn't post the type of stat that would enthrall the masses in fantasy hockey but was efficient for a retooled Red Wings blue line that desperately needed more cohesion and consistency. The 2024-25 campaign will be a contract year for Maatta before potentially being able to hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Rare two-goal game

Maatta scored twice Thursday in a 5-3 loss to the Islanders.

It was Maatta's third career multi-goal game (March 1, 2018 against the Bruins and March 6, 2014 against the Sharks). His first goal came early in the second frame with a slap shot from the left circle. His second came at 10:49 of third to tie the game 3-3. Maatta fired the biscuit into an open net off a cross-ice pass. He's not a consistent fantasy contributor -- he has just four goals, 17 points, 35 shots and 37 hits in 52 games this season. Nice effort, but it's not likely to be repeated.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Delivers pair of apples

Maatta supplied two assists in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Panthers.

Maatta pulled through for a Detroit team that still sits seven points behind the second-place Florida in the Atlantic Division. This was the second multi-point game for Maatta in 2023-24, and the blueliner will need to keep it up while Jake Walman tends to an illness that has already kept him off the ice for three consecutive contests.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Snags helper against former team

Maatta posted an assist in Thursday's 4-3 shootout win over the Kings.

Maatta got on the scoresheet against his former team when he set up the first of Robby Fabbri's two goals in the game. With an assist in each of the first two contests in January, Maatta is making a case to stay in the lineup more regularly after occasionally being scratched in the first half of the campaign. The defenseman is at eight points, 16 shots on net, 21 hits, 34 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating through 31 appearances in a third-pairing role.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Nabs helper Tuesday

Maatta posted an assist, two shots on goal and two blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Sharks.

Maatta played in his third straight game since returning from an upper-body injury. The 29-year-old has been rotated in and out of the lineup along with Jeff Petry (who was scratched Tuesday) and Justin Holl. Maatta is up to seven points, 16 shots on net, 33 blocked shots, 20 hits and a plus-6 rating over 30 appearances. Between a fairly quiet offense and a lack of a guaranteed spot in the lineup, he's not a stable fantasy option.

Maatta has sat out the last two contests after he was injured versus the Flyers on Dec. 22. Maatta has a goal and five assists in 27 games this season. He should slot into a bottom-four role if he's given the green light against the Predators.

Maatta notched an assist in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Stars.

Maatta has five assists, eight shots on goal, 25 blocked shots, 15 hits and a plus-2 rating through 22 appearances this season, and he's unlikely to see more than a third-pairing role when he plays.

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Two helpers in OT loss

Maatta notched two assists in Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Senators.

The 29-year-old defenseman benefited from his even-strength partnership with Shayne Gostisbehere, as the latter was busy putting together a three-point effort. It's Maatta's first multi-point performance of the season, and through 13 games he has only four assists without adding much production in secondary categories (15 blocked shots, nine hits, six shots on net, four PIM and an even plus-minus rating.)

  • Red Wings' Olli Maatta: Confirmed in lineup Saturday

Maatta will draw into the lineup Saturday against the Lightning, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. The defenseman missed Thursday's 4-3 season-opening loss to the Devils as a healthy scratch.

Maatta is a well-rounded blueliner fresh off a solid first season with Detroit. He posted six goals, 17 assists and a career-high 128 blocked shots through 78 contests. Fantasy managers generally require players with power-play utility, and Maatta isn't involved there, but he has a decent two-way profile and is occasionally rendered as a sneaky budget play in daily formats.

Maatta recorded two assists in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Canadiens.

Maatta emerged with a secondary assist in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Capitals.

Maatta inked a two-year, $6 million contract extension last Thursday. He's strung together five goals, 13 assists and a plus-6 rating through 52 games, which are strong numbers for a third-pairing defenseman. His shooting percentage (11.9) will be tough to sustain, but that's splitting hairs on an otherwise productive campaign for the Finn.

Maatta secured an assist in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Canucks.

Maatta synched up with Filip Hronek, helping his defensive partner to his first goal in the last 21 games. There have been some big moments from Maatta on the way to four goals and 12 assists through 47 games, but he's not a factor on the power play and ranks No. 73 in points among defensemen, meaning you'd have to be in quite the deep league to render him worthy of a roster spot.
