Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Has bad turnover in loss
Orlov supplied a secondary assist in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 6.
Orlov got on the board by helping out on a Martin Necas first-period tally that opened the scoring. It was the fifth time in six games this series that Orlov registered at least one point. The Russian defenseman also had one shot on goal and six blocks with a minus-1 rating in 19:01 of ice time. Unfortunately for the 32-year-old, he had an egregious turnover in which he failed to clear the defensive zone -- it led directly to a New York goal shortly after Carolina garnered a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Orlov finished the postseason with two goals and four assists in 11 contests.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: On three-game scoring streak
Orlov registered an assist in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Rangers in Game 3 on Thursday.
Orlov extended his point streak to three games, giving him a goal and two assists in that span, though his turnover in overtime ended up costing his team the game. He's up to four points (two markers) in eight playoff outings this year after finishing the regular season with six goals and 26 points across 82 appearances. Orlov is serving primarily on the third pairing and is seldom used on the power play, but he's getting plenty of work despite that unglamorous assignment -- Orlov has averaged 21:18 of ice time during the postseason.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Collects assist
Orlov recorded an assist and two hits in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers in Game 1.
Orlov helped out on a Martin Necas tally in the third period. The helper was Orlov's second point in six playoff outings, and he's added 14 shots on net, 11 hits and six blocked shots from a third-pairing role. The 32-year-old is not in the mix for power-play time, so it's unlikely he puts up much offense during the postseason.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Finds net in win
Orlov scored a goal on his only shot in Thursday's 3-2 Game 3 win over the Islanders.
Orlov extended Carolina's lead to 2-0 midway through the opening period, beating Ilya Sorokin with a wrister from the slot. It's the first point in the playoffs for Orlov, who was also held scoreless in his final nine regular-season contests. The 32-year-old blueliner had six goals, 26 points and a plus-4 rating in 82 games during the regular season while averaging 17:19 of ice time.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Supplies only offense in loss
Orlov scored his sixth goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Penguins.
The veteran blueliner spoiled a shutout bid for Alex Nedeljkovic midway through the second period by intercepting a clearing attempt and firing a shot through traffic that hit a Pittsburgh defender before finding the back of the net. Orlov has been on a heater in recent weeks, producing three goals and eight points over the last eight games, and he needs four more points to reach 30 for the third straight season.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Four-point outburst Sunday
Orlov tallied two goals and two assists in Sunday's 7-2 win over the Senators.
Orlov opened the scoring in the first period, beating Anton Forsberg on a breakaway to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. The 32-year-old blueliner added a pair of assists before scoring his second goal and fourth point in the final frame by firing a slapshot through traffic. It's just the second multi-point effort of the season for Orlov, who now has points in three straight games after logging just one assist in his prior 17 contests. He's up to five goals and 38 points through 68 games in a bottom-pairing role with the Hurricanes this season.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Reaches 20-point mark Saturday
Orlov recorded an assist for a second straight game in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Maple Leafs.
Although the helper gives Orlov 20 points on the season (3G, 17A), he's still on pace to fall short of the 36 points he posted last year. Part of the problem is Orlov's ice time is down more than five minutes conpared to last season (17:03 vs. 22:33), which is not surprising as Carolina boasts one of the deepest blue lines in the NHL. Temper your expectations accordingly.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Provides helper in win
Orlov logged an assist, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks.
Orlov picked up his first point since the All-Star break by setting up Jesperi Kotkaniemi's second-period tally. The 32-year-old Orlov has been limited to 18 points through 55 outings this season after posting 36 points in 66 contests last season. He's played primarily on the third pairing in his first year with the Hurricanes, adding 73 hits, 39 blocked shots, 85 shots on net and a minus-4 rating.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Stuffs stat sheet Saturday
Orlov posted an even-strength goal on three shots, along with a pair of hits and a blocked shot in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Coyotes.
It was a banner night for the Russian blueliner, who is now up to 17 points (3G, 14A) in 48 games this season. He's on pace to top 30 points for a third consecutive season. Orlov continues to skate mainly on the Canes' third defensive pairing opposite Jalen Chatfield, averaging roughly 16 minutes of ice time per night.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Two-point night versus Caps
Orlov enjoyed his first multi-point game of the season with a shorthanded goal and an even-strength assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Capitals.
Orlov's been a decent fantasy selection in deeper formats over the past few seasons. However, his value has taken a hit this year as he's been playing mainly on the third defensive pairing, reducing his TOI to 16:44 from 22:33 last season. Still, he's now up to 15 points in 39 games, which puts him on pace for a 30-point campaign. If you're looking for blue line help, he may be worth a look.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Helps out on power play
Orlov notched a power-play assist in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Canucks.
Orlov has a helper in each of the last two contests. His assist Saturday was his first power-play point since Oct. 21 -- he appears to have been bumped up to the second unit over Jaccob Slavin. Orlov is up to 11 points (three on the power play), 42 shots on net, 35 hits, 23 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-8 rating through 27 games this season. While it's encouraging that he's getting time with the man advantage, his third-pairing role at even strength doesn't inspire confidence in his long-term success.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Offers assist Thursday
Orlov notched an assist, three shots on goal, three hits and two blocked shots in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Flames.
Orlov had a shot tipped in by Michael Bunting in the first period just after a penalty kill. The assist snapped a three-game point drought for Orlov, who has been just okay on offense in a third-pairing role for the bulk of the season. The 32-year-old defenseman has 10 points, 42 shots on net, 34 hits, 22 blocked shots, 20 PIM and a minus-7 rating through 26 appearances. While it's not a bad pace, it's off the mark that saw him log 36 points across 66 outings between the Bruins and the Capitals in 2022-23.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Off to slow start
Orlov has just one goal and six helpers in 17 games this season.
After posting a career-high 36 points in 66 games split between Washington and Boston last season, Orlov is on pace to fall short of that mark in his first year with the Hurricanes. Part of the problem is that he's skating on the Canes' third defensive pairing, and his average TOI has dipped to just 17:30 per game, a drop of roughly five minutes compared to last season. Orlov's fantasy value will likely remain limited barring an uptick in usage.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Snags helper
Orlov produced an assist in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Avalanche.
Orlov saw just 15:49 of ice time over 18 shifts, though no injury was reported after the game. The 32-year-old blueliner has struggled to adjust to the Hurricanes, logging two assists and a minus-10 rating over six contests. He's added eight hits, six blocked shots and four PIM, but until his overall play improves, he'll likely be limited to the third pairing.

Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Gets first point with new team
Orlov posted an assist, three shots on goal, two hits and a minus-5 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Ducks.
While Orlov notched his first point as a Hurricane, it was also an ugly defensive game for him and Tony DeAngelo on the third pairing. Orlov has brought his usual physicality through three contests, recording six hits and three blocked shots, but he's now at a minus-7 rating. He's seeing some power-play usage, but the Hurricanes have one of the strongest defense corps in the league, so any slip in play could see his role reduced.
