Top Browns News

  • Browns' Dylan Sampson: Clear No. 2 back

Sampson had two carries for minus-4 yards and caught his lone target for three yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets in Week 10. He also had four kickoff returns for 104 yards.

The Browns' backfield clearly belongs to Quinshon Judkins, while Sampson has emerged as the No. 2 back ahead of veteran Jerome Ford. For the second consecutive game, Sampson was given more opportunities (22 snaps, three touches, three targets) than Ford (14, one, one). Cleveland has accepted its fate and is looking toward the future, which means a focus on the youth for the remainder of a season. And should Judkins get injured or the coaches opt to protect the club's best asset, Sampson could earn more than just the four-to-five touches per game he's averaged since Judkins was added to the active roster in Week 2.

  • Browns' Cedric Tillman: Two catches in return

Tillman (hamstring) caught two of four targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.

Tillman was the only Browns wide receiver other than Jerry Jeudy to record a catch in Sunday's loss. Jeudy and tight ends David Njoku and Harold Fannin all seem to be ahead of Tillman in the pecking order among Cleveland's pass catchers heading into Week 11 against the Ravens, but at least Tillman made it through unscathed in his first game since Week 4. The third-year wideout was activated from injured reserve Saturday.

  • Browns' Andre Szmyt: Nails four kicks in Week 10 loss

Szmyt made both of his field-goal attempts and each of his two extra-point tries during the Browns' 27-20 loss to the Jets on Sunday.

Szmyt tied the game at 17-17 after connecting on a 45-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, and he followed that up with a 29-yard chip shot late in the fourth quarter to make it a one-score game. It was the third time this season that Szmyt made two or more field goals in a game, and he is now 12-for-15 on field-goal attempts and 14-for-15 on extra-point tries through nine regular-season games.

  • Browns' Harold Fannin: Four catches in Week 10 loss

Fannin (hamstring) caught four of seven targets for 44 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.

Fannin hurt his hamstring Thursday but played through the injury and finished second on the team in targets, catches and receiving yards behind Jerry Jeudy. Fellow Browns tight end David Njoku scored his third touchdown of the season, while Fannin remains stuck on two touchdowns heading into a Week 11 home game against the Ravens. Fannin leads the team with 42 catches and 396 receiving yards, as the rookie third-round pick has been one of the few bright spots for the 2-7 Browns.

  • Browns' David Njoku: Finds paydirt in Week 10 loss

Njoku caught both of his targets for 21 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.

Njoku's nine-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was his third touchdown in Njoku's last four games. He remains a touchdown-dependent fantasy option due to the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin (hamstring), who had four catches for 44 yards Sunday. Up next for Njoku and the Browns is a Week 11 home game against the Ravens.

  • Browns' Jerry Jeudy: Season-best outing in Week 10

Jeudy caught six of 12 targets for 78 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.

After a forgettable first half of the season, the mercurial wide receiver put forth an encouraging performance coming out of Cleveland's Week 9 bye. Jeudy scored his first touchdown of the season on a 22-yard catch in the second quarter. His 66 receiving yards at halftime matched Jeudy's full-game season high. Jeudy tacked on only 12 yards in the second half but finished with game-high totals in targets, catches and receiving yards. Given the lack of proven alternatives in Cleveland's wide receiver room, Jeudy should continue to command significant volume in Week 11 against the Ravens.

  • Browns' Quinshon Judkins: Gets 24 touches in loss

Judkins rushed 22 times for 75 yards and caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.

Judkins was battling a shoulder injury prior to Cleveland's Week 9 bye, but he handled a healthy workload against the Jets, coming one touch shy of his career-high 25. The rookie second-round pick is the clear No. 1 option in the backfield for the Browns heading into a Week 11 home game against the Ravens. Baltimore beat the Browns by 24 points back in Week 2, and Judkins' rushing workload could be limited again if the rematch plays out similarly.

  • Browns' Dillon Gabriel: Modest output in Week 10 loss

Gabriel completed 17 of 32 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets. He added five rushing attempts for 54 yards.

Gabriel opened the scoring with a nine-yard touchdown pass to David Njoku and connected with Jerry Jeudy for a 22-yard touchdown in the second quarter, but the rookie quarterback completed only 11 of 23 first-half passes for 125 yards. Cleveland's offense struggled in the second half even as Gabriel's accuracy improved slightly, and he came up short of 200 passing yards for the fourth time in five starts as the Browns fell to 2-7 overall. Per Brad Stainbrook of the Browns' official site, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed after the game that Gabriel will remain the starter for the team's Week 11 rematch versus the Ravens, against whom Gabriel threw his first NFL touchdown pass in Week 2.

  • Browns' Alex Wright: Ruled out Sunday

Wright (quadriceps) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's matchup with the Jets, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.

The defensive end recorded two solo tackles before leaving the game. Before Sunday, Wright played on more than half of the defensive snaps in four straight contests. Cameron Thomas could see more time in his absence.

  • Browns' David Njoku: Top TE duo available for Browns

Njoku's fellow tight end Harold Fannin (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Fannin missed practice Thursday but returned to a limited session Friday before being deemed 'questionable' for Sunday's contest. With his availablity confirmed, the Browns will have their top two tight ends available versus New York, a timeshare that has kept both players on the fantasy radar. In eight games, Fannin leads his team in catches (38) and receiving yards (352) on 51 targets, to go along with two touchdowns, while Njoku has recorded 27 catches for 260 yards (second on the Browns in both categories) on 41 targets, with a pair of TDs in seven contests.

  • Browns' Carson Schwesinger: Active Sunday

Schwesinger (ankle) is active for Sunday's matchup with the Jets.

The rookie middle linebacker suffered a high ankle sprain during the Browns' Week 8 loss to the Patriots and then missed two practice sessions following the team's Week 9 bye. At the same time, the injury was never believed to be "major," per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Schwesinger has enjoyed a strong rookie season, with 64 total tackles, including 1.0 sacks, and one interception.

  • Browns' Cedric Tillman: Active Sunday

Tillman (hamstring) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Ahead of being activated from injured reserve Saturday, Tillman logged a week of full practices, which should position him to step back in a key role in the Browns passing game in his first game action since Week 4. His return comes at an opportune time, with Isaiah Bond (foot) inactive, though it remains to be seen what level of volume Tillman will see alongside fellow WR Jerry Jeudy, as tight ends Harold Fannin and David Njoku are both candidates to see plenty of looks from QB Dillon Gabriel on Sunday. In four games played thus far, Tillman has recorded an 11/106/2 receiving line on 20 targets.

  • Browns' Harold Fannin: Active versus Jets

Fannin (hamstring) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jets.

Fannin was added to the Browns' Week 10 injury report after not practicing Thursday, but the tight end returned to a limited session Friday before being listed as 'questionable' for Sunday's contest. With his active status now confirmed, barring any in-game issues Fannin should continue to serve as a key passing target for QB Dillon Gabriel. Through eight games to date, Fannin paces his team in catches (38) and receiving yards (352) on 51 targets, to go along with two TDs, while fellow TE David Njoku has logged 27 catches for 260 yards (second on the Browns in both categories) on 41 targets, with a pair of scores in seven contests.
