  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: Past thumb injury

Forbes (thumb) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.

The 2023 first-round pick was sidelined for the past two weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his thumb following the Commanders' Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. However, Monday's full practice indicates that the second-year pro has moved past the issue. Expect Forbes to serve as one of Washington's top rotational cornerbacks as the season progresses.

Forbes (thumb) is inactive for Monday's game against the Bengals.

  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: Iffy for Week 3

Forbes (thumb) is listed as questionable for Week 3 against the Bengals after participating in Saturday's practice in a limited capacity.

Forbes was forced to sit out Week 2 against the Giants after undergoing surgery to repair a torn UCL in his thumb. He opened the week as a DNP on Thursday, but the 2023 first-round pick has given himself a chance of playing Monday after practicing Friday and Saturday, albeit in a limited fashion. Michael Davis played 22 defensive snaps in Week 2 in Forbes' absence, and the former would likely see a similar amount of playing time Monday if the latter is unable to suit up.

  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: Has thumb surgery, out for Week 2

Coach Dan Quinn said Friday that Forbes (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.

Quinn said Forbes won't be placed on IR, but that it's too early to make a decision on his potential availability against the Bengals in Week 3, per Ben Standig of The Athletic. The rotational cornerback isn't expected to be out "too long" according to Quinn, so it sounds like a Week 3 return may be within the realm of possibility.

  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: Undergoes surgery

Forbes will undergo surgery Friday to repair a torn UCL in his thumb, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Forbes suffered the injury in a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers and was expected to play through it Sunday against the Giants by wearing a splint. However, the move to have surgery may change that plan, and it's not clear when the 2023 first-round selection will suit up again. More clarity may be available once the team releases their next injury report.

  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: To play through thumb injury

Coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that Forbes (thumb) is expected to play Sunday versus the Giants while wearing a splint, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

Forbes suffered a thumb injury during Washington's loss to the Buccaneers in Week 1, per John Keim of ESPN.com. It won't come as a surprise if the rotational cornerback is limited in practices this week as a result, but the Commanders expect Forbes to be available for Sunday's divisional matchup at home against New York.

  • Commanders' Emmanuel Forbes: Puts on 17 pounds

Forbes told reporters last week that he gained 17 pounds in the offseason, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.

If that's accurate, it would mean Forbes's weight has increased by about 10 percent since he checked in at 166 pounds at the 2023 Combine. He was one of the more polarizing CB prospects in recent memory, sporting a thinner build than any current NFL starter at the position. The Commanders took a shot on Forbes with the 16th overall pick, betting that his absurd playmaking track record at Mississippi State (14 INTs, six returned for TDs) would translate to the NFL. It didn't work out that way as a rookie, with Forbes picking off just one pass and getting benched for performance reasons Week 6. He re-entered the starting lineup thereafter but was often picked on by opposing quarterbacks, and it seems the new coaching staff in Washington is hopeful Forbes will fare better with a more conventional build for a corner. That said, he's still among the thinnest players at his position, now listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds (though it sounds like he reported to training camp a few pounds heavier than 180).
