  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Leads SF to victory on SNF

Purdy completed 18 of 26 pass attempts for 260 yards and a touchdown while rushing eight times for 56 yards and another score in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Cowboys. Purdy carried San Francisco's offense on a night where two key players -- Deebo Samuel and Jordan Mason -- left the contest early due to injury. The 24-year-old Purdy pitched a clean outing with two touchdowns and no turnovers, the second time he has accomplished that feat in the last three weeks. The Iowa State standout is averaging 262.6 passing yards per game this season with 12 touchdowns to nine turnovers. The status of multiple star players on offense -- including running back Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) -- will determine whether Purdy will be a good or great fantasy play coming out of San Francisco's Week 9 bye when the team visits Tampa Bay on Nov. 10.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Stymied in Super Bowl rematch

Purdy completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 212 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while adding eight carries for 27 yards and two rushing scores in Sunday's 28-18 loss to Kansas City. Both starting quarterbacks in Sunday's Super Bowl LVIII rematch struggled passing the ball against tough opposing defenses, combining for no touchdown passes and five interceptions. Patrick Mahomes wound up earning the victory for his team, but Purdy had the superior fantasy day with two trips to the end zone as a rusher. The latter also lost his top two receivers to injury at halftime, which helps excuse the horrific passing performance. Purdy was coming off of his best statistical game of the season in Week 6, so fantasy managers shouldn't panic ahead of a much softer matchup against the Cowboys next Sunday.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Bounces back with three TDs

Purdy completed 18 of 28 passes for 255 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the 49ers' 36-24 win over the Seahawks on Thursday night. He also rushed four times for 19 yards. Coming off a two-interception game and back-to-back contests with a sub-56.0 completion percentage, Purdy enjoyed a resurgent night that featured his second three-touchdown tally of the season. The third-year signal-caller's scoring tosses came in the second, third and fourth quarters, with Purdy connecting with Deebo Samuel (76 yards) and George Kittle (10 and nine yards). Purdy recorded completions to seven different pass catchers overall, and he'll likely need to turn in an even higher-caliber performance when he and the 49ers tangle with the Chiefs at home in a Week 7 Super Bowl rematch on Sunday, Oct. 20.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: QBs to Start

Purdy was a huge disappointment in Week 5 against Arizona as the Start of the Week when he only scored 15.1 Fantasy points. And he's only scored more than 16.6 Fantasy points once this season, which was Week 3 at the Rams. But this is a good setup for him to get on track Thursday night at Seattle. The Seahawks are beat up defensively with injuries to linebackers Uchenna Nwosu (thigh) and Derick Hall (foot), defensive tackle Byron Murphy II (hamstring), and cornerback Tariq Woolen (ankle). Jared Goff and Daniel Jones each scored at least 26.1 Fantasy points against Seattle in the past two games, and Purdy will hopefully be next. I'll trust him again despite last week's underwhelming performance.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Throws two picks Sunday

Purdy completed 19 of 35 pass attempts for 244 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-23 loss to Arizona. Purdy and San Francisco's offense had the team in position to win this favored contest before a horrific second half saw the home team fall by one point. Both NFC West clubs sit at 2-3 now, but the 49ers were expected to be championship contenders while the Cardinals are in the midst of a rebuild. This was easily Purdy's worst fantasy game through five weeks, but fantasy managers shouldn't panic about their quarterback given Purdy's success last season, plus the plethora of weapons the 49ers can offer when healthy.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Start of the Week

It's been a choppy start to the season for Brock Purdy so far. He lost Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) until November, dealt with a hold in from Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel and George Kittle already missed a game at the same time due to injury. Ironically, in the Week 3 game when Samuel and Kittle were out at the Rams, Purdy had his best game of the season with 31.8 Fantasy points thanks to a heroic performance from Jauan Jennings. Things will hopefully start to look normal for Purdy from this point forward, and I expect him to have a big game against the Cardinals in Week 5. Arizona is No. 7 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, and Josh Allen in Week 1 and Jayden Daniels in Week 2 each scored at least 26 Fantasy points against this defense. Purdy has a great history against the Cardinals with at least 23.3 Fantasy points in each of his three meetings with Arizona, and he's averaging 27.6 Fantasy points over that span. I like Purdy as a top-10 Fantasy quarterback in Week 5, and he has top-five upside in this matchup at home.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Mixed results in second win

Purdy (back) completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 288 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 30-13 win over the Patriots. Purdy and his teammates took care of business in a favorable home matchup Sunday. The end results were modest from a fantasy perspective, with San Francisco passing for just one touchdown in the lopsided team win. Purdy was dealing with back soreness coming off of last week's three-touchdown performance, which might help explain his poor completion percentage (56.0 percent) compared to his 69 percent completion rate in two-plus years as a pro. The rising star continues to be a strong fantasy option heading into another favorable home matchup against the Cardinals on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: QBs to Start

Purdy looks like he'll get some help this week with Deebo Samuel (calf) and George Kittle (hamstring) back at practice, but Purdy didn't need them in Week 3 at the Rams when he passed for 292 yards and three touchdowns, along with 41 rushing yards. Aaron Rodgers and Geno Smith combined for 608 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Patriots in the past two games, and Purdy should be considered a low-end starter this week. Hopefully, Brandon Aiyuk steps up with his first big game of the season, and we'll see what happens with Jauan Jennings now that everyone is healthy. But I expect Purdy to keep it rolling in this matchup with New England in Week 4.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Full practice Wednesday

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy (back) will be a full practice participant Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Shanahan revealed Monday that Purdy was tending to back soreness in the wake of this past Sunday's road loss to the Rams, and while he considered the quarterback day-to-day, the injury won't affect Purdy's practice reps to kick off Week 4 prep. Purdy thus is in line to continue leading the 49ers offense Sunday against the Patriots, but the skill-position players available to him remain up in the air. Running back Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) is on injured reserve for the foreseeable future, wideout Deebo Samuel (calf) won't practice Wednesday, and tight end George Kittle (hamstring) will be a limited participant, which leaves receivers Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings and running back Jordan Mason as the 49ers' healthy weapons for the time being.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Dealing with sore back

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Purdy is tending to a sore back after Sunday's 27-24 loss at the Rams and is considered day-to-day, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports. The injuries keep coming for the 49ers, but at least in the case of Purdy, he doesn't appear to be dealing with a significant issue. Still, he may endure some practice limitations once the team reconvenes Wednesday in advance of Sunday's contest against the Patriots. Whether or not wideout Deebo Samuel (calf) or tight end George Kittle (hamstring) are able to put themselves in positions to return to action Week 4 has yet to be determined.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

I was initially looking forward to trusting Purdy in Week 3. The Rams were just abused by Kyler Murray in Week 2 for 266 passing yards and three touchdowns (he also added 59 rushing yards), and Purdy has been good coming off a loss. In his past two games after a loss, Purdy combined for 526 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions, and he scored at least 21 Fantasy points in each outing. But you can't trust Purdy if he's down Christian McCaffrey (calf), Deebo Samuel (calf) and potentially George Kittle (hamstring). That seems like too much firepower for Purdy to overcome, and he's only scored 10.3 Fantasy points in Week 1 and 15.9 Fantasy points in Week 2. I would only use Purdy in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for Week 3.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Sleeper QBs

I didn't expect Purdy to have a big game against the Jets in Week 1, and he scored 10.3 Fantasy points because he failed to throw or run for a touchdown. He should improve this week against the Vikings, even though Purdy struggled at Minnesota in Week 7 last year when he only scored 14.8 Fantasy points. The Vikings played an inept offense last week against the Giants, but this is a big step up in competition against the 49ers, who have an implied total of 26 points this week. I like Purdy as a low-end starter in all leagues.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Modest numbers in comfortable win

Purdy completed 19 of 29 pass attempts for 231 yards and added 11 yards on one rushing attempt but did not score any touchdowns in Monday's 32-19 win over the Jets. Purdy didn't put up strong fantasy numbers due to the lack of touchdowns in Monday's victory. The 25-year-old was without the services of star running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) for the 49ers' home opener, but the rest of the offensive unit picked up the slack behind a strong defensive effort in the decisive victory. Purdy threw a clean game that featured a pair of rushing touchdowns from Jordan Mason and Deebo Samuel and six field goals from kicker Jake Moody. Expect San Francisco's star quarterback to put up bigger performances, with the next opportunity coming against the Vikings on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: QBs to Sit

Purdy got his guys back when Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams signed contract extensions just prior to Week 1, but how much both will play against the Jets remains in question. It's also a brutal matchup against the Jets and former defensive coordinator Robert Saleh since the Jets were No. 2 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks last year. I would only start Purdy in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues this week.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Another tune up ahead of Week 1

Purdy completed nine of 12 pass attempts for 96 yards and one interception in Friday's preseason finale against the Raiders. Purdy had a better go of things in his second preseason tilt after going completing just two of six attempts against the Saints in last week's exhibition. The 24-year-old wound up completing three drives Friday before an interception off of a tipped pass ended the starter's final exhibition appearance of 2024. Preseason results rarely matter for proven starters in the NFL, so fantasy managers should focus on Purdy's stellar 4,280/31/11 passing line from his breakout 2023 campaign, given his good health and favorable fantasy situation heading into Week 1.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Should get some reps Friday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that the starting units will get "some snaps" during Friday's preseason finale against the Raiders, Lindsey Pallares of the 49ers' official site reports. Purdy was on the field for only three drives during Sunday's preseason win over the Saints, in which he completed two of six pass attempts for 11 yards. It seems likely that Christian McCaffrey (calf) and Brandon Aiyuk (contract dispute) will remain sidelined Friday, but McCaffrey is still on track to suit up Week 1 versus the Jets. Star pass-catchers Deebo Samuel and George Kittle figure to represent Purdy's top receiving options Friday. With Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) still sitting out Tuesday's practice, though, it's notable that Purdy has had almost no opportunities throughout training camp to build chemistry with the rookie first-round pick.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Limited work in preseason debut

Purdy completed two of six pass attempts for 11 yards in Sunday's preseason win over the Saints. Purdy made his preseason debut while a myriad of his teammates remain resting in anticipation of the regular season. The 24-year-old didn't get much work in the three drives he was on the field for, but no one should be evaluating the Iowa State product on what likely will be his lone preseason appearance of 2024. Once the regular season gets under way, Purdy will have his full arsenal of playmakers to dissect opposing defenses with.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Most starters not playing Saturday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said most of the 49ers' starting team, which Purdy headlines, will not participate in Saturday's preseason opener against the Titans, David Lombardi of The Athletic reports. Shanahan didn't specifically rule Purdy out, as he left a window open for some starters to see action, but it seems safe to say the 24-year-old signal-caller won't be risked in exhibition action Saturday without the rest of the starting offense around him. His supporting cast could also be in flux, with Brandon Aiyuk trade talks heating up, while 2024 first-round wideout Ricky Pearsall aggravated a shoulder injury Tuesday, Lombardi also reports. Purdy has drawn praise and has reportedly been working on improving his accuracy while on the move, but he won't get a chance to show that off in game action quite yet.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Honing skills in training camp

Purdy was spotted putting in extra reps with the training staff following the 49ers' last team practice in an effort to improve his mobile throwing accuracy, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. When asked about the optional throwing session, Purdy referenced the team's upcoming off day while adding that he felt he needed to improve on his accuracy while evading pursuers on the run. The 24-year-old is coming off of an MVP-caliber season in which he completed 69 percent of his passes for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdown passes over 16 regular-season games, so the fact that he isn't resting on those laurels should excite potential fantasy investors for the 2024 season. There shouldn't be too many doubters left regarding Purdy's elite status both as an NFL player and asset in fantasy following his meteoric rise to stardom in San Francisco as the last pick of the 2022 Draft.

  • 49ers' Brock Purdy: Plays well in first SB appearance

Purdy completed 23 of 38 pass attempts for 255 yards and a touchdown while adding three carries for 12 yards in Sunday's 25-22 overtime loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. Purdy was ready for the big moment and handled everything defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could throw at him despite falling short in the overtime period. The rising star QB surrendered just one sack for a loss of four yards while finishing 10 rating points behind Patrick Mahomes (99.3), whose final touchdown drive for Kansas City earned him the game's Most Valuable Player award. Even with the heartbreaking finish, Purdy's 2023 regular season can only be described as a smashing success after he completed 69 percent of his passes for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns across 16 starts. San Francisco should still have multiple star playmakers surrounding the young quarterback next season as the team looks to get back to the big game in 2024.
